Its possible I have misjudged the "clutch" ability of this team, if that is even a thing that exists.

But the team has been as good as I've thought, and better than you've thought.
I’m a little confused but did you really only think they were perennial first round losers. I know that sounds harsher then I mean it but all they have done is lose in the first round with no sign of improvement

I wouldn't read too much into "defensive improvements" for this team yet. North division offensive rivals were probably only Jets and Oilers.

Now in the Atlantic you get Tampa, Florida, Boston, and freakin pain in the ass Sens;

and then you have to play metro teams quite often too; with only 2 games with the western conference teams.
Exactly. At best they finish 4th or 5th and end up playing TBay, Florida or Boston in the first round.

I'm not entirely convinced we finish higher than the Habs in the post season.

Reading these posts, we have a very, let's say, passionate fan base - a fan base that believes they know what will happen, but really, all we know is what might happen, and everyone has an opinion about that.

It is quite apparent that, for much of the fan base, if the 21-22 Leafs don't achieve some level of playoff success, it will be Dubas' fault.

But if they succeed in 21-22, say, and happen to win 1 or 2 playoff rounds...is that because of Dubas? Or in spite of Dubas?

if we finish 4th or 5th that doesn't mean we make the playoffs if we are below metro teams in the wildcard hunt. It ain't gonna be as rosy as north division.

Yup. I've never seen this in any sport where the team keeps going down hill and the gm keeps getting lauded for the boneheaded moves by the fans. its almost like the gm matters more than teh team LOL

like WTF is all that about?
It seems like a lot of Dubas’ supporters are analytics advocates and they view him as one of them.

So if Dubas gets criticized, or worse, and eventually fails, it’s like it’s an indictment against the entire analytics movement and community.

I agree but also another large group of Dubas lovers are also people of that certain age bracket,30-45,that will be against the older more experienced GM's just because of age.

As with most things today many believe they don't need to pay their dues and that saying you know it all means you know it all and the older people should just get out of the way.

So Dubas turned down 2 draft pick as part of Hyman signing with the Oilers ?

Yup.

A team a conference over needed to be made to pay for their UFA signing.

The Leafs needed to teach them that lesson at a cost of acquiring multiple draft picks of their own.

I'm not sure how that lesson helps the Leafs in any way but hey, lesson taught....

The Leafs lose a very valuable player for literally nothing at the end of the day.

Wonder how Rielly goes next year...

Burke and Nonis' teams were also playoff teams and contenders, did you know?

No word of a lie...

How do you even let someone negotiate with other teams ahead of time without having the parameters of a deal in place?

if made-of-glass-by-april Muzzin can stay healthy, we might be able to sneak in a cup as the 2018 capitals.

Carried by a group of 4. They had 14 mil spread across the other 8 forwards . Vrana on ELC (8 points in 23 games, Robertson can tie/beat that).

Dubas needs to make a hit on the next depth signing then it's all on AM MM WN JT and the top 4 D. The next depth signing needs to throw hits for sure. I'd also ship out Mik and replace him with a bruiser too. Mik is a waste of a roster spot when the playoffs roll around. Plays softer than GOAT.

Marner and Matthews are still on the young side though. Kuznetsov was 26 when he put Caps on his back. Backstrom and Ovie older than him. Oshie older. Only Nylander and JT will be in the age range when Caps "big 4" finally figured it out. But I reason that Marner and Matthews > Kuz and Oshie so maybe the age difference won't matter. Whoever thinks Marner and Matthews peaked has no idea how hockey works.

The big issue you can all easily see is Wilson @ 2 mil cap hit (as in where the hell do we get a Wilson for 2 mil). Caps round out their top 6 with 2.9 mil. Wilson 2 mil, Vrana 900k. This will be similar to us. I think LW1 + LW2 will cost less than LW3 + 3C

If people are willing to stop being so miserable for one second, they'll look into this and see there's some weight to it. I get we're in dark times but we still have pieces that can figure it out.

If you look back in the past, there's not much variety when it comes to cup winners. So If caps did it in 2018 it does give some reason for optimism.

It all rides on our big 4. Marner really needs to hit another gear next season. We actually have enough cap to take care of the depth especially if some ELC guys are ready or they come across timely hard working players. DSP bought out by devils, Caps pick him up for 650K and he puts up 7 goals in the playoffs

Anyway I'll let you guys get back to your Dubas and Leafs bashing while providing nothing useful to read.

It is funny. All the free agents left their teams for nothing ( except Goodrow) and this happens yearly.

Not a JOKE!

I legit had a nightmare yesterday where everybody was making fun of the Leafs and their fans at the stadium and I have nothing to respond with Leafs having another ayers like game and Dubas had traded futures and signed another terrible contract the same day.

I woke up all sweating and pissed off.

This is a new low for me; I never had any scary Leafs dreams even when Horacheck was coaching this team.

anybody else had some weird shit like this?

Great point and do you think Holland is going to be an eager trading partner with us if we come knocking next Feb?

Here Bomber $2 bucks for nothing.
Keep it I want $10 bucks for nothing.

During his time as General Manager the team has lost, for nothing, Jake Gardiner, James Van Riemsdyk, Tyler Bozak, Tyson Barrie, Zach Hyman, Nick Foligno and Fredrik Andersen.

Not only has dubas wated many picks on players (1st for foligno, 1st for marleau, ect) he has missed out on lots of assests by refusing to trade any of these ufas.

That IS terrible asset management.

Isn't Kyle supposed to be some sort of math genius? Or at least thats what the leaf media told us. Yet he still has no idea what he's doing. No team has won with even a single 10+ mil player on their team. So Kyle goes and gives 3 players 10+ mil deals?

Point signed a bridge and all the dubas fan boys were telling us how that was going to bite Tampa in the future while the marner deal would end up better. Well point just resigned for less than mitch! You guys have been wrong over and over and yet most of you still act so smug.

I've never seen a gm do so little with so much.
