People hated Dubas from before he ever had 1 minute as GM. They wanted Hunter and hated his skill approach. They would never give him benefit of the doubt. Toronto's core has failed Dubas, Dubas has done very well as GM.

This is false. Most were tired of Lou and his rules like no facial hair and only low jersey numbers.

What has dubas done well exactly?

Zero playoff wins after 3 seasons is not even close to doing well. Especially when you consider that he inherited a 105 point team.

Bizarre. Even if Edmonton was only offering a 7th they should of taken it. You cost Edmonton an extra 500k max per year against the cap, so what? They're an out of conference team you see twice a year unless they meet in the finals.

Getting something for Hyman > getting nothing.

Sure seems like an obvious no-brainer to me as well.

But the Dubas Fan Boi Club is desperately trying to why their hero made a brilliant decision.

Dubas gave up a draft pick with Hallander to save Kerfoot and now has a chance to get a draft pick pick back for losing Hyman. That would seem like good asset management.

NYR gave up a 7th to TB for the rights to Barclay Goodrow and then signed him. What are the Leafs getting for letting Oilers sign Hyman?

I think something marginal is more preferable to nothing, but if Dubas thinks jamming up Edmonton for half a million for the next 7 years has value to the Maple Leafs organization - not necessarily agreeing or disagreeing, let's go with that.

Most fans don't want Dubas' as GM. They don't trust his abilities or decisions. Do the Leafs respect their fans? We want him gone before years of additional damage is done. He botched the build and next year proves it. Fans will check out this year.

Seven years is already a train wreck for Edmonton. Hyman doesn't have that much left. Any years you shave off just doing Edmonton a favor. I wouldn't believe any numbers going around and I doubt the money on a 7 year deal is the same as 8.

how many did they have last year? and the year before that?
last year we had one 1st/2nd/3rd an extra 4th and a bunch of picks in the 6th/7th rds which i keep reading are worthless by the Dubas supporters in the Hyman to Edm compensation discussion

2 years ago we had the full 7 picks but no 1st and an extra 4th

so basically we're still f***ed

Not overly impressed with Kyle Dubas as GM all things considered. I see him thriving in the role if he was a Bobby Webster style GM that you know is more of an AGM to the president Masai Ujiri (who is the real GM).

But in order for that to work better, Brendan Shanahan would have to be more of a hands on architect like a Steve Yzerman with serious building talent than the senior executive he is today, who is involved but we're not sure how much...

I'm not convinced the extra year on the Hyman contract is worth more than a 6th TBH. If you want him to stick to his guns, fine, but I do question the asking price.

I feel like I'm on something of an island in not being keen on either this or the protection list move, while also thinking he was criticized too heavily for the playoff results when he had no small part in building a roster many believed *should* be able to - and was expected to - achieve more.

nothing wrong with holding out for a higher pick for a little longer , should be able to get Holland up to a 5th or maybe a 4th

They both took on cap hits for those picks.

Getting a 6th from Edmonton would have cost the Leafs ZERO cap hit.
Agreed but it’s saving Edmonton cap hit for 8 years. It has value. I don’t see an issue with Dubas ASKING for a higher price. We have until Wednesday

A 15 page discussion over a late round pick.... man, I wish KD would have given us something more to talk about at the draft.
My two cents: ultimately the pick is fairly meaningless, but not taking the pick sort of flies in the face of his previous mantra so it feels a touch hypocritical?
I understand why people are upset but Im going to take this as Kyle trying to toughen up a bit and improve his ability to make deals going forward. From what Ive seen through the years, he seems to cave on his position and accept his counterparts offer quite a bit and this needed to stop.

Yes, he did. He said he wouldn't waive unless he went to SJ or to a team that would buy him out to sign in SJ.
he wanted out , we wanted him out , there were more options than to let him dictate how this was going to be accomplished

Lou is far from perfect but i doubt he would have let PM dictate how he was going to depart our team .

This is so odd. This is not giving Edmonton any more cap savings, no matter the deal Hyman gets.
It is a "cap savings payment plan" versus a "cap savings lump sum plan".
After year 7, the Oilers have 5.1M in cap space opened to them. Which, is actually more in cap savings than the 8 year deal at roughly 500k a year, giving 4M in total cap savings.
Why would anyone pay a 2nd round pick for that?
