They loaded up on draft picks the last two years. This was the year to go all in so I’m okay for not having draft picks.

I think we’re all in agreement this was the year to go all in and use the draft capital. Yeah it didn’t work so be it but that’s the risks you needed to take this year.

Going "all in" shouldn't include trading first rounders for bums like Nick Foligno and at the very least he should be trying to get some of those picks back when the opportunity presents itself.

Really poor asset management

I had liked Dubas, but I expected more out of him. I don't hate him, but I don't love him right now either. Things could be worse... but they could be better too.

I thought Dubas was going to do a good job until the whole Garrett Sparks fiasco. The fact it took him so long to fix something that really needed to be fixed is what started the concern for me. Did he think the prices would come down for a back-up as we watched Spark flounder? It was as Lou would say " A very unfortunate situation"

At the deadline, what kind of trades would you have made? And what sort of picks should they have got back within the time period from the end of the playoff series til a couple days ago?

Yeah, the Sparks thing started off his tenure with mixed emotions. If it had worked out, then we'd be talking about bringing guys through the system, having faith in the development, etc. but he did wait too long to make a decision and it backfired. The other thing was, they lost 2 goalies on waivers at the same time, so it magnified his decision making even more.

Taylor Hall for a 2nd

Wasn't that going to be a tough ask given his salary? The only other forward option that made any impact in the playoffs was Sam Bennett.

This is the most critical off-season for Dubas, bar none. Up until now, he's definitely made his bed with the overpriced signings with the belief that he has hired the best pro/am scouting staff, and they will be able to find some sort of hidden gems throughout the world to plug into the line-up. Where I think he dropped the ball the most is, he should have approached the deadline like the Tampa Bay Lightning did previously. If you are aware that you have a 1st round pick to use in trades, why not get a guy that's got a cheaper contract that will give you 2 years (like they did with Goodrow & Coleman). The Blues were stumbling into the playoffs, but wouldn't they have given up Sundqvist or Sammy Blais for a 1st? That makes more sense for good players on fixed deals.

Oilers to wait until Wednesday to sign F Hyman

Bizarre. Even if Edmonton was only offering a 7th they should of taken it. You cost Edmonton an extra 500k max per year against the cap, so what? They're an out of conference team you see twice a year unless they meet in the finals.

Getting something for Hyman > getting nothing.

I would've looked at Taylor Hall over Nick Foligno.

Not really

Using double retention like we did with Foligno it’s 2 million prorated for the remainder of the season

Haha a new GM staying the course would so ridiculous, I don't even know what to say to that. Wait how about this - that would be the most Leafiest thing ever!

Most Leafiest thing would be terrible trade to make an example and losing lots value (Chuck Fletcher style), then trading for players that are outdated when league is changing directions and adding costly UFAs for quick fixes. Some wannabe Burkie starting to fix this could be real ugly. I just hope there is some good mystery GM waiting instead of that old boys club that usually changes chairs in the NHL.

They’re playing chicken

Ya I didn't get that move... it was Dubas' worst trade. Going after Hall made more sense... even at the time.

You have to remember that Hall wanted to go Boston and he had full NMC so he chose his destination. He wasn't an option for us.

It is really something to see the usual suspects who complain nonstop about being too easy to deal with suddenly whining about him not caving and taking less than fair value. Guaranteed they would be criticizing him if he let Holland walk all over him and take Hyman's rights for a 6th or 7th

That's completely illogical. It's an 8th year for Hyman. Dubas thinks everyone is as dumb as him and goes gifting drafting picks. No Dube, it's just you buddy.
