Where’d we be without M and M , Riley and Willie who looks great when not having to play at half speed due to his center that cant skate ?

Yup our phenomenal blue line that bleeds goals , or wait it’s not the D it’s the goalies , but that’s not Dubies fault they suck ass

You are right - where would we be without out core, all signed thanks to Dubes :)

term matters! Matthews at 12 AAV for 8 years is a lot better than Matthews at 11.6AAV for 5 years. Thats an additional 3 year window to plan around with a cost that is controlled and giving cap more time to increase in those 3 years and have relevant actions/strategies accordingly.

Similarly with Marner.

Imagine Matthews and Marner locked in for 8 years and Tavares' 11 AAV coming off the books. That gives plenty of flexibility to do something constructive and stack the team for the run at the cup.

Good foresight, thinking in terms of relative instead of absolute is important! It Matters!
12 x 8 was never going to happen, ever.

Honestly, I have been saying for the past few years. You can continue to trash on Dubas for whatever reasons, but if the Leafs under him ever win the Cup, you can't take credits away from him, bc he built this team. Same thing with MM and AM, you cant go on about how important they are to Leafs success and then say it is a TEAM game when they struggled in playoffs. You just can't have it both ways.
Right now, Dubas like many GMs had done great, good, so so, bad and really bad deals(not going to name each ones). Playoffs success will always be the determining factor of how good the GM is, Chia is the outliner.
Yep even if you make the finals if you don't win you are a bum... CC Bergevin.

Refresh my memory , can you explain how Dubie acquired our core ?
Drafted, then retained by Dubas.

What is there to be unhappy about? We're 3rd in the league in pts%, and we've got the strongest roster we've had, not to mention the farm is well stocked and we have our picks. I don't mind people arguing if, say, Sakic or Yzerman have been better GM's; those guys are are great.

We've had some bad playoffs, but let's see what they can do this year. If they are a no-show again, then sure, go off on him. However, he's built the team well, it's deep and it's well rounded. It's on the players now to show up and create those legendary moments.

He didn’t draft any of them and the discussion isn’t about if I’m happy with the team .

2019 called, they want their post back.

So he’s not responsible for any of our core except for Johnny snow shoes .

But don’t let that stop you from giving him credit , I’m not here to rain on your parade .
Dubas is responsible for all of our core as well as the rest of the team. Obviously, it won't stop anyone from giving him credit.

To be fair last years the only one that truly stings. It sucks we haven’t had success but Washington and Boston x2 are both whatever and had us ahead of schedule
I'm sure we all have our own levels of pain tolerance. When we were up against Boston going into the 3rd and got outscored 4-0 in the 3rd, for me, that stung. When we didn't show for game the next time and lost 5-1 I think it was, that also stung. For me personally, the WSH loss was the only one that was whatever for me, we could have won every series since then and in the long run, winning 2 out of the 4 would be break even.

For me it was the way they lost. If they went down battling to.the end and giving it their all, that's one thing. To look like they already lost to the Habs just as game 7 started - no fire, very little pushback....
no excuse for that

I'm on the fence with Dubas and if they go out early again he's gotta move on from a core piece. Not sure he'd do that

Marner was obviously a Hunter pick .

If you want to give credit to Dubas then it should be for going to Shanny and having him force Hunter to draft Korshov which followed Dubies philosophy of drafting based on inefficiencies which he believes are over agers and Smurfs .

and if you can find and draft an over age Smurf like Big Mac Holliwell then you’ve hit the Jackpot !!!

Lol Mark Hunter is on camera talking about how much he loves Korshkov and was shocked he was still available. But yeah evil Dubas forced Hunter to fangirl over low skill fridges at gunpoint. Everyone knows Dubas wants useless plugs as long as they're 6'3 but Hunter probably wanted a small skill guy like Debrincat.

Matthews certainly did. Marner did as well.
Both of their contracts are consistent with the history of post-ELC contracts in the cap era, at their term. Matthews had earned the 5th highest value post-ELC contract in the cap era, and he got the 6th highest value post-ELC contract, term considered. Marner had earned the 6th highest value post-ELC contract in the cap era, and he got the 10th highest value post-ELC contract, term considered.

Unfortunately, some people seem to think that if they weren't the best contract in the entire cap era according to one very simplistic metric that lacks significant context and most disadvantages Matthews/Marner in any comparison, then they were overpaid - which is obviously wrong.

In a cap world, if you cannot convince superstars like Matthews to give a little won't be easy to win cups.
That's more than giving a little, and teams are more than capable of winning cups without shortchanging their franchise players. Top-end stars in this league already get largely underpaid to prop up the earnings of the middle and lower class. Know what actually makes it hard to win cups? Losing your best players because you won't agree to paying them properly like their peers.

It posts like these that have me questioning if you’re actually a Leaf fan .

Most of us cheer for the crest on the front of the jersey , then there’s others than seem to believe what’s important is defending an employee of the teams every move .
Huh. In over a decade I can't remember a single post of you cheering for the team. Is that what you call what you do?

that's because you believe cheering for the team only means cheering for the GM

remember when you and the peeps went thread to thread attacking everyone who dared to say Burke taking us down a path to no where ? those were good times weren't they ? lol

Literally have never seen a single post "cheering for the crest". Hell I would be impressed to see you cheer for anything. I mean, I would probably call a doctor to have a wellness check done but would be impressed nonetheless.

why don't you check out my post cheering Willie in the game thread

and how did cheering Burke turn out for you ?

f*** Godwin's Law, HFLeafs Officially has Hotpaws' Law.
Tenet 1: In any debate about Dubas, Pawsie will eventually bring up the Burke days
Tenet 2: If at any point in any debate someone resorts to (allegedly) being right about something completely irrelevant that happened MORE THAN A DECADE AGO, they are instantly deemed wrong,
Tenet 2 Bonus: the first poster to quote them and reply HOTPAWS gets an internet cookie.
