I knew it3. (After the fact I've heard) conversations with Kreider's agent supposedly started at 7 a.m. and then final offer came about 9 a.m., with the Rangers including a 7th year. Kreider's term was gradually compromised from $7.25 at the start of talks. If true, he exchanged $5 million on his salary demands for a 7th year on his contract.
however the over the top vitriol towards kreider and the complete obfuscation of who he is as a player is sickening.
This is arguably the best power forward in the league. A.
Well he did it
He played the way we always thought he could
And what was his motive?
The result we got today
I believe and I hope I'm wrong that with his millions he'll go right back to who he always was..
I just think they fell in love with the idea of making the playoffs now
But in doing so we sacrificed the future
We would have gotten 2 solid prospects(one being a first round pick)
Hopefully instead we get the kreider of today for the next 5+ years
But to give up those two prospects for the hope kreider becomes a consistent 60+ point power forward is a huge gamble.
Good luck
Holy lack of complete prespective, Batman. Let's take out McDavid and Crosby shall we? Those are true generational talents. If you cant make the differention between MacKinnon, Matthews, McDavid, Draisaitl, Barkov, Crosby, ROR, Bergeron and Zibanejad, that sounds like a you problem.
lol, on a week when Ovechkin nets #700
Ovie is a sniper. He stands 15 feet out and rips 1 timers. He's big and heavy sure but he doesn't play a power forward along the boards game. He hits hard but he's a very different player than your typical go to the net power forward.lol, on a week when Ovechkin nets #700
So...I've been reading a ton of negativity regarding this deal..and I'm certainly against it as I've made clear, however the over the top vitriol towards kreider and the complete obfuscation of who he is as a player is sickening.
This is arguably the best power forward in the league. A top 5 net front presence in the league. A top 5 fastest skater in the league. A key driving force in one of the top 10 lines in hockey right now (arguably). A guy whose getting paid a bit more than half of the guy we just signed as an u. F. A.
Make no mistake he left a ton of money on the table. I can bet you anything someone would have offered him 8m a year for 7 years EASILY.
This is a terrific deal right now. This is a terrific deal the next 3 years. What this is is a very dangerous deal in years 6 and 7.
THAT is why I'm against it. Chris kreider is a great player. He's not some middling player people can wish into existence with the snap of a finger. He's a top line winger on at least half the teams out there.
I doin't really look at Ovechkin as a power forward
He likes to throw hits without the puck but his real game has always been far more about his ability to shoot the puck than to play a power forward style game like going to the net or dominating along the boards
Just because he's big and fast and sometimes throws a hit doesn't make him a "power forward". Far more comfortable calling him a sniper before calling him a power forward
besides the past few weeks before the trade deadline in a contract year Kreider didn’t play the boards this hard either. Ovechkin is a do everything player include power, speed hitting sniping, you name it. He’s not finesse. He’s more of a freight train.
Still waiting for details on the extension... please post if its official.
If there's a modified NTC that kicks in years 3-4 then it should be considered a good extension. If not we could have Lucic 2.0 on our hands in a few years.
Thoughts and prayers to The Crypto Guy and Go Away Staal on this trying day in their lives. My condolences to the families.
Everyone loves to use the word "Cave" for dramatic effect. In a negotiation you need to give to get. They gave the 7th year to drop down the AAV and likely to structure it the way they did.I knew it
Way too much smoke about them not wanting to give the 7th year, and then Gorton caved last minute this morning
I very much disagree with the first part of your statement and think that this again is a symptom of people only paying attention to points and not to how players actually play the game.
Listen Igor has been the MVP of the games he’s won for sure. He’ll be key to the team when he comes back next year too though. This deal doesn’t signify “do or die” this year. It’s “do or die” within the same window as the one opened up by the Panarin signing - 4 years or so if I had to guess.I'd feel better about this if not for hearing about the Igor news.
