I am withholding my vote until I see the details of the clauses. I posted a bit ago most I wanted to go was 6.5 X 6 with a NMC first 4 years, and a limited NTC the last 2. As long as its not a full no trade clause towards the end I ultimately like it.

Still would have preferred trading him and coming back with a bigger offer in the off-season but there is certainly no guarantee that works out.

Too risky. Plus trading him when he was willing to take less to stay probably would have left a bad taste. Look I admit my first preference was to sign him. However if somebody decided to make a monster offer or if Kreider demanded way too much then I would have had no issue trading him. Obviously neither happened which is what I started feeling the last few days

Meh, we know the minimum we would have gotten was the Pageau deal plus. To me it would have been worth the risk, especially after finding out our starting goalie just got a fractured rib. But I understand why the Rangers weren't willing to take that risk.

Voted like it but like most others 7 years is a long time. What makes me feel best is kreider hasnt had injuries or the type to block a lot of shots and decline in the vain of callahan, staal, girardi, or mcdonagh who always was injured.

I also feel that his speed will help stay relevant.

Not a fan. It's a "discount" in that Kreider would've gotten more as a UFA, but this contract is going to look pretty bad in the last 2-4 years when we're hopefully contending.

On top of that, considering the rental market for guys like Pageau and Toffoli, the Rangers probably passed on significant assets for Kreider that they could've used in the offseason to trade for guys who better fit our window.

3 picks, one conditional, for Pageau. That sucks and if Kreider would've gotten a slightly better return than that, I'm glad to still have him.

Look... I’m not a fan of 7 years any more than you are but you don’t know that the last 2-4 years will be bad anymore than the people who say he’ll age well think the opposite. I thought the risk that a Kreider deterioration would lead to a bad contract was too high based on his overall skill level. Again, we just do not know.

So I’m going to choose to be optimistic about it and root for him to maintain at least a top-9 ability through all 7 years.

I still think the better move long term was to trade Kreids...but after having had some time to digest everything, I've come around and am ok with the extension. Won't say I love it, but I definitely don't hate it like I did immediately after.

Although the Skjei cap dump + 1st rd pick return certainly played a big part in my change of heart.

Let's assume this is Kreider's peak and he declines beginning next season. This is still a good deal. You have to fill out your roster with UFAs and the Rangers just got one for less than market price. The Rangers also just told the world that they're serious about 2021-2022. Let's go.
Top-6 is going to be sick next year. It's already above-average.

I am happy with this signing, I expected he might want more than Hayes, but Hayes' struggles probably helped get the price down. Not a fan of contract length, but he will just turn 36 at the end of the contract so it is not too terrible especially for a guy who is always in good shape. And not too many Left Wingers like that out there and especially not in our pipeline.

I will say one nice thing about Kreider despite my feelings on the signing- which is that if players got assists for effective screens in front of the net that the player didn't actually touch, Kreider's point totals would be a hell of a lot higher relative to other players around the league.

In fairness Crypto Guy has calmed down a little. Still doesn’t live the Kreider deal but after the Skjei deals feels better.

Caved on the term but won on the AAV. Seems like a pretty straight forward compromise. I have zero doubt Kreider would have gotten 7 x 7.5 on the open market. I like the deal. Not a steal, but a solid player who is good with the young guys and playing his best hockey.

When we signed Panarin and traded for Trouba, we changed course. If we didn't do either of those things I'd agree with you. But we did and we are a competitive team.

Some people wanted him to take 5 years lol. I mean the guy took probably 7 million less already but asking him to take 15-18 million less crazy is something no player would do no matter how much they loved being here
