would have preferred less length on the deal, but both sides wanted him to stay here. so they met in the middle.

says something about the guy when he manages to get the entire team to train at Prentiss every offseason. dude's a role model.

Look In a perfect world I would have loved a 6 year deal but the guy took at least a million less per year than he would have gotten. Hell I’ve seen people say they wouldn’t go past 4-5 years lol. I’m sorry but that’s just dumb. You can’t ask a player to take 15-20 million less as much as he loves the place he is at. I doubt Gorton would have ever made a lowball offer like that.

6 years, 7 years, it’s irrelevant to me. They kept a core guy and he’s critical to establishing the culture. Maybe when Zib is due a new deal in a few years he sees what Kreider did and does the same. Gonna be a Ranger his whole career; that’s special.

I was pro trade but $6.5M is reasonable even with that 7th year.
Exactly appreciate your objectivity. I understand there were those who wanted to trade him and I respect that. Personally I felt the offers they were getting wasn’t worth losing the type of player we were losing. Like you said the deal is reasonable even with the extra year

They will regret this
Oh no. 6,5 is good, 7 years is awful.
Will regret it in 3 years.
Ugh.
It's going to take some real creativity to make DeAngelo work now.
File me under "Extremely unenthusiastic"
That said, for Chris Kreider, hopefully he doesn't live long enough to see himself become the villain. He left around 4-5 million on the table and that means something.
Love Kreider to death but 7 years is yuck
Not good.
They really caved, great for Kreider, will be bad for NYR.
Absolutely terrible. No foresight by Gorton at all.
Never going to re-sign all our young players in the future. Oh and all the better when Mika is up for his contract, probably won't be able to sign him either.
But hey, we got 50 point Mr Inconsistent for 7 year who will be declining halfway through his contract.
Terrible, just downright terrible. As much as I’ve always liked Kreider, this is going to hurt.
I don’t expect much from him those last two contract years, and since Kreider usually only shows up for half of a season anyway, they just practically invested 45,5 million into 2,5 years of Kreider.
Not thrilled with it.
Not a big fan of this signing for mr inconsistency. But I hope that I am wrong. 6.5aav not that big of a deal but the 7 year? Come on gorts!
I'm still in shock this actually happened. The fact that Gorton caved is so disheartening, not going to lie
I do not hate this deal. However, I am trying really hard to like it and I just can't.

Still don’t like it long term, but Skjei trade and getting a 1st from Carolina makes easier to digest.
. If you look at it objectively it really is reasonable. I still don’t know why people expect him to suddenly break down in 3 years.

It’s more of less how past history of giving these contracts for the Rangers has been bad. I hope at least it’s the Chicago route where it’s bad once they win Cups.

But you can’t know that. Even if it’s bad at the very end I will take it if it mean we won a cup. The guys keeps himself in as great as shape as you can be and seems smart about it. I’m in my late 30s and exercise/play sports like I’m in my early 20s so it’s not like tour body dies when you reach 30. Granted you have to keep your body in shape

Kreider:
28 years old
24 goals, 21 assists, 45 points in 60 games
6.5m AAV for 7 years

Hayes:
27 years old
19 goals, 16 assists, 35 points in 62 games
7.15m AAV for 7 years

With Kreider's freak-of-nature type body, and Hayes' average-at-best shape, I definitely see Kreider holding up better.

I'm not mad at this.

I think Kreider hasn't even peaked yet. He will continue to improve.

Its also no secret he drives every line he's on.

Last year Zibs did poor without him. This year Chytil was tearing it up with him on his wing. Buch thrives with him. Zibs thrives with him.

He and Panarin have similar effects to their linemates but through different avenues.

I voted "indifferent" but probably should have voted "like it". I like that we kept him. I like the AAV. I don't like the term. Probably grades out to like a 6.5-7.5 out of 10 for me.

Also, my issue with the term isn't because I think he's going to break down. I'm just scared of term after all the bad deals we've had to suffer through or buy out.

Let's assume this is Kreider's peak and he declines beginning next season. This is still a good deal. You have to fill out your roster with UFAs and the Rangers just got one for less than market price. The Rangers also just told the world that they're serious about 2021-2022. Let's go.

The fact that the Rangers saw fit to re-sign Kreider, unlike every other player from the prior run that reached this situation should signal what the organization feels about his importance both on and off the ice:
It could. It could also mean that they think we're in a different spot in our rebuild.
