Injury Report: Kreider (Broken Hand)

Kreider could played with the injury but he could have suffered further damage. The Dr. Robert Hotchkiss has operated on some former Giants players. David Diehl had a broken thumb which required surgery last summer.

Chris Kreider is undergoing surgery on Friday to repair the undisclosed left hand injury sustained one week ago in Columbus and will be sidelined indefinitely, the Rangers announced Friday morning.

The club’s official release said the surgery was being performed by Dr. Robert Hotchkiss at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan.

Kreider played through the injury for two games and, as the Daily News confirmed on Wednesday, he could have continued to play through it in the short term. However, doctors determined it wasn’t worth aggravating the mystery injury and making the recovery time much more severe.

Excellent Points. Like i have said a few times the rangers can still win although in the later rounds it would be nice to have Kreider. Also in regards to Miller i like the kid and agree he has potential but im surprised at all the hype he has gotten. He has done some good things but watching him this year he still has a ways to go

Good hockey sense but i see him as a 3rd line/second line player which is pretty good. I also dont buy that kreider has bad hockey sense. I feel his defense has improved even though he does have lapses which is expected as a young players. He does take penalties but i feel a lot of it is due to he size/strength. Also i feel his passing has really been impressive
 
The fact he was able to play through it suggests it's minor. Maybe it is similar to Zucc's injury at the Olympics? Non-displaced fracture.

From what i read short term he could have played but it would have made teh recovery process more severe which is probably why Glen Sather was the one who pulle dhim from the lineup because apparently Kreider was gonna play through it

Good thing Sather did. At least now, Kredier should hopefully be back for the 2nd round if we get there, instead of possibly being done for the year.
 
Big hole. Kids a horse.

Size and speed is tough to replace. without him in the lineup we're left with mostly a team full of midgets at forward.

Have to agree with you. His size, speed and forechecking ability will be missed.Just hoping this team continues to play well and keeps building chemistry. Also hank and d will have to carry them. Would also be nice for 26 to contribute .
 
No update on Kreider. AV said he hasn't asked about an update on Kreider. He made that statement a few days ago after a question about Kreider. The Rangers have no depth. Kreider breaks his hand and the Rangers have Carcillo on the top line or Moore or Boyle on a line with the Tampa twins. He had surgery on that hand last Friday. Its been 9-10 days. The Rangers never released any info on when he will return. McKenzie said a month or longer. Broke the hand two weeks ago last Friday. Surgery the next Friday. Paul Martin broke his hand which required surgery in Sochi and that was a 4-6 week injury. Playoffs start in 10 days. It doesn't like Kreider will back for the first round of the playoffs. Sather told Kreider to have the surgery after Kreider wanted to play with the injury. He could have damaged the hand more by playing with it. 4 weeks puts a return in late April. The playoffs start April 16-17. Two weeks to play a series. The Rangers won't rush him back.

McDonagh hasn't skated since the injury. He expects to be back by start of the playoffs but also said that he won't rush back if he isn't ready. Ryan didn't say anything about playing the rest of the regular season. He spoke last Thursday. McDonagh isn't playing this week.

A bit pessimistic?

Our next two are Carolina and Buffalo at home... two of the worst teams in the league. Winnable with or without McD.

The Flyers still have Tampa Bay and Pittsburgh on their schedule. If the Flyers go 2-1-1 in their final four, all we need to do is go 1-1-1.
 
This team would miss the things that Kreider provides if he happened to do them in a much more consistent basis.

People have been raving about his size, his speed, and his shot since the day he was drafted. We only see glimpses of each, and rarely do all 3 come together for him.

its a shame you can get your blinders on so easily but have such trouble taking them off.

Kreiders impact on his line is huge. not in the least of which in that it lets the rest of the lines stay together.

Kreider's impact was forceful in November when he was playing with Stepan and Zuccarello. Thats because he showed up to play most night.

The Kreider - Stepan - Nash line has disappointed at various points this season, a lot of the time its because Kreider and Nash are disengaged passengers.

Kreider being plastered on 1LW all season says less about his impact and more about how piss poor the depth is at that position.

He has 17 goals and 37 points as a rookie. What standard are we holding him to here? He's not as good as most 1LW's, but most 1LWs aren't 22 year old rookies.
