Rangers still have a bevy of good prospects and if we need a top 6 player have the assets and the cap space to get one.

Really the disappointment about Kravtsov is just disappointment about Kakko and Lafreniere, who, relative to their draft classes are still performing right where they were slotted, but aren't superstars at the moment. If they were, none of us would care about Kravtsov at this point.

It's a bummer to swing and miss on two top ten picks back to back, but Colorado selected Tyson Just at 10OA, teams whiff, and there were many who doubted MacKinnon after years of being a good but not great player. I'm still optimistic.

Nice work by Arthur.

Kravtsov left for the KHL on October 25. He didn't even give it a chance to work.

Staple is a great beat guy, I'd be thrilled if he took over Rangers coverage.

This seems like a situation where Drury and Kravtsov just don't get along. It happens, but it shouldn't ruin a relationship like this. Both sides need to just put it aside and move on so we can ice the best team possible.

When the team posted a slideshow of our players pics this comment made me die lol

Seriously though, I do think looks play a big role in success in life and also on the ice. You know how they say the taller candidate wins almost every election? The more handsome team wins almost every cup final. When I construct teams in Chel I definitely take looks into account and I think this is something we’ve lost sight of in our rebuild.

Lmao.

That Devil fan is a f***ing loser and a half though.

I wouldnt say he is unqualified by any means. Maybe a little too headstrong.

If he has a focused idea of the type of player he wants on this team and Kravstov obviously didnt fall into that category, he should have moved on from him months ago.

This is a little concerning
To be fair I think Drury's approach would've worked with like 95% of hockey players.

We can all crow about it all we want but the truth is that Kravtsov is an entitled baby. I feel like he's destined to fail regardless of team or opportunity unless he can work on his attitude.

I wonder how much of this info was out there in hockey circles. Obviously in hindsight the move was to trade him but who knows what was being offered and how much teams knew.
Yeah, that's an oft-overlooked element of these situations. It's like with the DeAngelo thing--everyone wants to know, as more details come out, well why didn't we move him sooner? The NHL is an extremely small circle. There isn't much that goes on in an acrimonious relationship between player and team that doesn't soon percolate to all the other teams. Particularly when you have incidents occurring in front of the rest of the team and staff. That shit spreads like wildfire. Other teams likely knew as much about DeAngelo as the Rangers did.

Same for Kravtsov. Obviously the first situation became quite public and you better believe potentially interested organizations poked around after that and continued to monitor through back channels in the event something happened. We may all be surprised to hear Drury dressed the kid down, or that he missed busses and was dismissive of the Rangers concerns, all that stuff, but I bet you most of the 31 other teams were not surprised. I bet you they knew. Between players talking to other players, agents talking to their players and other front offices (it happens), front office types gossiping, I bet every bit of it was known.

Now, none of this is to say that the Rangers shouldn't have cut bait sooner (they should have). It's just, can you imagine what it would have looked like had we traded him in July for a second round pick? Without the rest of this transpiring? The explosive reaction would have been ten times more explosive. Even without the reaction from Kravtsov from this latest move, teams would almost certainly still be aware the Rangers had a bad situation on their hands and a player that they were looking to move, and would have tried to take advantage of it just as they will now.

Nothing stays hidden in the NHL.

This is not Drury’s fault. Kravtsov and his entitlement is his own worst enemy. Show up and work hard. Be ready to earn it. I don’t feel bad for him. We don’t players that think things should be handed to him.
I’m not sure how someone can read all this info coming out and not say this is partially on Drury

Both sides are in the wrong on how this situation was handled

Kravtsov did quit on the team. He did not give Hartford a chance the first time around. Ran back to Russia and was mediocre there too. Comes back and still having the same issues with effort.

Gm's and coaches today need to be able to adjust to how different players respond to criticism and how to get the most out of different players. Some need a kick in the pants, some a pat on the back, a good leader knows which ones need what. If the GM is kicking everyone in the pants its not gonna work for everyone. This was always Torts problem, a player like Gaborik didnt want the kick in the pants, he hated it, Dubinsky quite the opposite.

If staple is right and drury dressed him down in front of the team. That’s absolutely on drury. It’s not ok.
Drury isn’t the coach, he was the AGM.
And this has to be in the bubble. So we’re talking about when Kratsov specifically flew back to practice with the team, during the pandemic even though he knew he wasn’t making the team.

Idk he used his negotiated clause to return to the KHL the first time, how he went about it isn’t good but if the Rangers didn’t want him bailing on Hartford then don’t give him the clause

But Drury’s been having issues with this kid since the beginning, how many red flags does he need before he realizes it’s time to cut bait?

That’s where Drury has failed in this situation. Letting things get to absolute worst possible outcome for all parties

When I read that I thought it was when Drury was coaching with Knobby last season while the entire staff had Covid, but idk if that timeline actually lines up

No matter what anyone thinks of Kravtsov the team absolutely blew this by either not recognizing the situation and moving him or if you had planned on making him part of the future here then you needed to make sure he was happy and understood the process.

Yeah definitely a miscalculation on Drury's part in this situation but it's not some grave injustice that he did that to Kravtsov like I've seen some making it out to be (on twitter mostly).

Drury bungled it but Kravtsov shoulders more blame IMO. Maybe 60/40 or something.

Bottom line is Kravtsov wants everything handed to him on a silver platter. He soured on the Rangers when he didn't make the team the year after being drafted, which is ridiculous. He was mediocre in the KHL and bad in the AHL. His conditioning has been questioned. So what we have is a talented kid who wants everything handed to him without having to earn it. He's not a kid with his head screwed on right. Maybe Drury could've handled him with kid gloves and made it work but honestly with a kid like this it most likely was always going to end up in some sort of variation of what we're seeing now.

Kravtsov thinks he's Panarin when his impact on the ice is more like Gauthier. But he thinks and believes he should be treated like Panarin.

I bet Drury wishes he took back the public dressing downs of Kravtsov but is anything he said wrong? All 3 times VK has come over to the US, he's had incidents stemming from his conditioning and work ethic, so why should he get special treatment in ways that his peers on the team didnt? I have still yet to see a good reason why he shouldve.

It sucks that now they will only get $.50 on the dollar for another top 10 pick, but plenty of good teams whiff on their high picks. its also probably a reason why Gorton/JD/Bobrov/Clark are no longer in positions of power in the organization. Drury needs to learn from this though, no question.

He specified Toronto. That has to be the bubble. We didn’t cross the border at all last year.

Wishes he took it back? Why the f*** is an AGM dressing down any player? That’s the coaches job.
Where was Quinn in this?

He had a European out clause in his contract he was fully within his rights to do that and was also correct that the KHL is the better place for his development than the AHL. He wasn’t mediocre there c’mon man he led the damn team in goals last season..

Reading peoples comments the past few pages about Drury I think I finally get it. I was too young to remember Drury the player. I think some people must have an admiration for him when he was a player here, he was even our captain. I had no idea lol. So people may emotionally side with him even when he is a horrible GM. It’s like if one of my favorite players like Buch or Lundqvist became GM one day, I may have a hard time objectively criticizing their moves because I like the person so much. I don’t remember Drury the player, he was introduced to me as Drury the GM.

Edit; About Kravtsov’s ego, I think we need someone with that kind of ego. We have too many beta’s, Kakko and Laf don’t play like they think they’re the best. Kravtsov legitimately thinks he’s the best player on the planet, he’s willing to try pulling off moves and plays that Laf & Kakko couldn’t dream of. We need that overconfidence. Laf has it a bit but he still tries to play way too safe and just do the right things on the ice instead of taking risks and creating more offense
