If Kravtsov didn't bail on the team and run back to the KHL the first time in 2019, maybe he's on the team now as well. Its not like the competition was too fierce. Better players than VK have proven themselves in Hartford, including 2 fellow Russians in Buch & Shesterkin.

Quinn, for all his faults, said it best at the time: "There is something wrong with the system if you cant send a 19 year old to the AHL"
Kravtsov has sacrificed over and over, skipped his sisters wedding to hop on a plane the second they told him he had a chance to come to the bubble. The team bailed on Kravtsov, he didn’t bail on them.

I think if we didn’t luck out on 1st & 2nd overall picks, people would have a different tone about this treatment of a top 10 pick
sure, we lucked out in the lottery.....but even still, we would have gotten quality players if we had drafted in our projected spots.

Being sent down isnt bad treatment of a top ten prospect.

Would be interesting to see a chart of the top ten picks of...lets say the last 5 drafts....that were sent to the minors to start their careers.

What treatment? He was given a fair chance to make the team. He is being asked to go to the AHL like many prospects do year after year including Shesty, Zooks, McD, Buch, etc. He has only played around 39 games in the AHL (15 points). This does not have to be a big deal of any kind. Go produce in the AHL and then come play in the NHL.

God forbid an NHL player misses a family wedding because of team obligations, you act like he's the only player to ever do that. K'Andre Miller also came to the bubble and didnt play in any games, but made an impression that helped earned him a spot the next year.

Both sides shoulder some blame in this situation, but its a non-issue if Kravtsov was man enough to willingly go to Hartford for a few weeks until his play or an injury/underperformance got him back to NY. Blindly defending Kravtsov as the Golden God and explaining away the negatives as someone else's fault is why he himself is in this position to begin with.

The fact is he has 4 points in 20 NHL games and 2 different organizational regimes have come away unimpressed. Drury should have traded him before it got to this point.

Many say krav is immature and laf and kak arent
Laf and kak were never demoted eventho they should have
They were both awful their rookie years but were handed a spot
So they never were delt the adversity krav was.
If u can hand them both a spot despite how bad they r u should do the same with krav especially since krav is so much better than laf and kak were their rookie years
Yes, it’s about time we acknowledge all of the adversity that Krav had to overcome to arrive to this moment in his life as a 21 year old.

We could be looking at Ockham's razor: The simplest explanation is usually the best one.
The organization saw Kravtsov as a top 6 forward and felt it would be best for him and the team if he started the year in Hartford where he would get those minutes along with first unit PP time along with PK time.
Vitali felt it was beneath him and balked at the opportunity.
The only thing troubling was even though he was nursing an injury he still should have been brought on the team building junket to RI, even if just to hang with his teammates and toss a couple back and enjoy in the story tellings.
I think Kravtsov believed he was a top 6 forward too and wanted that top 6 ice time. He just believes he's a top 6 at the NHL level. Kreider on the 1st line pretty much takes up that spot because he's not above Kakko, Laf, and Panarin.

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to assume Reaves plays about 40 games.

The questions are then vs Kravtsov

Does Gauthier offer more on the fourth line - yes

Does Blais offer more in the top 6 - probably not

Does Goodrow offer more in the top 6 - probably yes.

That + waiver eligibility was probably enough to spell his room. Kravtsov needed to show some maturity and wait for poor play/injury, that’s out so he’s done as a Ranger. Which is a shame since I don’t feel 100% confident in LaFreniere this year.

Why do you think Reaves is playing 40 games when he has played 60+ games every year since 2013 other than last year when he got injured?

The entire picture can not be painted with these stats of course and this is just want I have at my fingertips but it paints a pretty clear picture that one player was engaged physically while the other may not have been.
All those did not plays tells me Kravtsov wasn't given enough of a chance to play. That would be frustrating. I'm wondering why Gallant dressed Gauthier so much more than Krav

You can't look at this in vacuum. Obviously the guy would've made the team if Kakko and Laf weren't here. But based on what we now know, the guy would've required constant pampering to be happy and it probably wouldn't have worked out between the two parties long-term anyway.

Rangers made the right decision in sending him down. The questionable decision was to hold on to him despite all of the recent tension. Even then, they might've just been exercising patience and hoping that he comes around. If so it was a risk that didn't pay off - it happens

The KHL is a far lower scoring league than the NHL, don’t make dishonest arguments like that lol. You could also say he is the youngest player in KHL history to score a playoff goal, the most points of any U21 player in KHL playoff history (at age 18), KHL rookie of the year, and a KHL All Star.

The first bold was literally his only point in that playoffs. He didnt light it up that year. The second bold is the following years playoffs that is beginning to look more and more like an outlier. 2 years in the KHL playing ~50 games and scoring ~25 points. Thats what he has. He is a good player, maybe even potential to be great, but heck man, our last 2 similar Russian prospects both out produced him at similar ages in Cherepanov and Buch. He has also bailed on 3 teams. The Rangers, Traktor when he got back and then the Rangers again. I dont think this Org is without fault, but man this dude makes it difficult to root for him.

Also, you are simultaneously shitting on the KHL scoring and young players play time and influence in the league, but then we are supposed to be impressed by KHL Rookie of the Year? Haha

I think it's pretty clear Gallant favors francophiles!

Maybe because him having his job hinges on the Rangers winning games and from team construction standpoint he liked Gauthier brought to the table more so than Kravtsov? I wouldn't overthink this

The Rangers are fault too. This organization always seems to have an issue with rushing their players. Most of the Russian players who have become stars in the NHL weren't rushed to the NHL. Ovechkin and Malkin were special players. Svechnikov isn't on the same level as those two players but he is an elite level player. Tarasenko spent 2 1/2 years in the KHL before joining the Blues. Kuznetsov spent 3 1/2 years in the KHL before joining the Capitals. Kaprizov was a 5th round pick in 2015. He didn't join the Wild until the 2021 56 game season. Panarin wasn't even drafted. He was 24/25 when he joined the Hawks. Buchnevich spent 3 years in the KHL before joining the Rangers. Podkolzin joined the Canucks this season. Everyone knew he had two seasons remaining on his KHL contract at the 2019 draft. You were waiting 2 years for him. None of this yo-yo shit.

Some other players come over at 16 or 17 to play in the CHL. Radulov. Kucherov. Sergachev. Provorov who came to the North America very young. Kucherov went to the AHL but he ripped up the league. TB brought him up ASAP. He was too good for that league. His performance was proof. Our boy has a high opinion of himself.

The Stars brought Nichushkin over at 18. His first 3 years weren't very good. His career never got off the ground. The Stars took Gurianov in the 1st round in 2015. They brought him over at 19. He has 5 pro seasons under his belt. He spent the first 2 plus seasons in the AHL. He had 20 goals in 19-20 before Covid ended that season. He had 9 goals and 17 points in 27 playoff games in the bubble. 12 goals and 30 points in 55 games last season. Gurianov didn't bolt to the KHL when the Stars assigned him to the AHL 3X. He had a European assignment clause in his contract. He stayed here. Our boy left barely 3 weeks into the season in 19-20 and got his ass suspended for refusing to accept the AHL assignment this week.

As soon as the Rangers selected Kravstov, we heard about him exercising a buyout of his KHL contract. What was the rush? The decision was made for him to play in the KHL in 18-19. His 19-20 season was a disaster. He wasn't ready for the NHL and he pouted his way back to the KHL. IF he was not comfortable with the AHL, just leave him in the KHL. If the Rangers were not comfortable with Kravstov spending 2-3 years in the KHL after being drafted, the Rangers should have selected a North American player at #9. None of this back and forth stuff. Did the Rangers have this discussion with him or maybe he just bullshitted them? Kravtsov thinks he is ready for top 6 NHL minutes after one good season in the KHL. The other players had a bigger body of work.

Andersson wasn't ready for the NHL. The Rangers told everyone he was ready. The expectations were too high.
