I do agree with this and as much as some don't want to hear this I think Trotz would be able to instill that simplicity and structure. I think we would see an immediate impact with our D zone play. 5 on 5 scoring wouldn't get any worse either.
I don't think Trotz could do much better.....we've got too many players on the top lines that cannot or will not compete in the dirty areas.

The loser point is making us look better than we actually are right now.

Counterpoint: Team is 1-4 in OT/SO. If the team went even 3-2 in those, they'd be tied for 2nd/3rd with a record of 10-6-2 and I don't think we'd be seeing the same sky is falling takes. That's pretty much the difference between us and Carolina who also are sitting at 7 RW and 8 ROW. I've stopped looking at these as loser points as they're really tied through 60 points. 3 on 3 and shootouts aren't something we see in the playoffs, are both gimmicky, and aren't a real indicator of who's good and who isn't.

Let's take our 1 and 2 overall picks, completely deny them PP1 and PK time, lets bench them and punish them for every little mistake, lets keep them on the 3rd line most of the time, lets have them sit on the bench for extended periods of time so they can't get into a rhythm... but lets also wonder why they're not developing more rapidly.

Hey lets take a 50 point scoring 29 year old, throw a dump truck load of cash at his doorstep, give him 23 minutes of ice time including near full 2 minute PP shifts like he's Connor McDavid, and then wonder why the team looks like shit.

Keep doing it, it's going to end up so great. Hey, when the Devils lift the Stanley Cup again before the Rangers, don't really try to wonder why. They get how to develop players, Rangers don't.

Said it a million times I'll say it again. This team isn't winning a Cup without Lafreniere and Kakko leading the way.
Ah reality alert why this infatuation with the “kids” None of them have shown to be consistently
It's also possible that we just got unlucky with who our top picks were.

I don't care how much opportunity and ice time you give Lafreniere or Kakko, I don't see either of them being in remotely the same stratosphere as Jack Hughes.

I like both of them a lot as players, but I've never seen anything at the NHL level that indicates they're going to be anything more than high end support players at best. Gabe Landeskog level players. Good players, important players, but not the stars to lead your team. I'd love to be wrong but I'm starting to think this is just the case, I can only blame the coach and organization for so long when the guys on the ice are showing literally nothing to indicate they can be star level players.

Other young players at least show flashes. When Hughes was 18 and 115 pounds as a rookie and struggled he still showed enough to make you go "this kid is going to be a star in a few years." What have we seen from Laf or Kakko ever to indicate that aside from the fact that they're our top draft picks? I like them both and I'm nowhere near closing the book on them but I'm really struggling to remain hopeful they're going to be stars.
DO NOT compare Laf or KK to Landeskog are you insane. Landedkog is the perfect specimen of a player that wins Playoff hockey games he drives the net, hits everything, has good hands, plays well defensively and his compete level is off the charts.. our kids are soft as jello this infatuation you all have with our first round busts is fuvking pathetic
Wake the f*** up these are not high character high skills playoff type players
They are soft as the charman aloe tp I use to wipe my ass
So sick of this kids bullshit

The composition of this team is poorly constructed. Pathetic management so sick of this garbage.

I agree. Maybe they didn't deserve more ice time just in last night's case. I bailed with 9 mins left in the 3rd. Chytil had an awful game. Kakko had that 1 good chance in close. Laf was invisible. Caved in all game hogtied to the 3rd D pair.

I wonder how often Raymond, Stützle, Lundell, Jarvis, Mercer, Cozens, Zegras, Caufield and Perfetti get demoted to the third line for a couple bad games.

We can keep bringing up "But we have more depth" but that doesn't really make sense when it's a list of bottom-sixers that get put on the top lines ahead of them in Fast, Blackwell, Hunt, Blais, Vesey and Goodrow.

are those stats including PP? Because, yes, we are getting shots from dangerous places on the PP. But shot location at 5v5, and high danger chances 5v5 certainly seemed to favor the Kraken and not by a small margin. We play far too loose to generate as little 5v5 high danger opps as we seem to.

I don't think it includes PP, at least the HDCF% stat. This game we were destroyed in shot location though.

It's not as if Kakko and Laf have never spent time in the top six, though. They've been given time there. A lot of time? No, but certainly enough to see how they get along with those vets, but they never got along well.

Goodrow is finding himself next to Panarin and Trocheck because it's a head coaching trope of adding someone with supposed more grind, sandpaper and N-S when there's still too much E-W and smooth, cream pudding with a line combination.

Panarin > Trocheck + bottom-sixer

And I saw in the highlights that Goodrow was the 6th guy out there with PP1 on that late PPG by Trocheck.

Also why the hell are weekend west coast games (Sharts on Saturday) starting later than 8 pm?? F that! Weekdays, sure, I get it. But for east coast weekend games NHL allows freakin 6 am starts for family fun day games, but west coast must not start until midnight.

Maybe it's because I didn't sleep really well, but huh? Are you talking about local times? @NYRFANMANI

The only time that's relevant of course, EST, aka GMT+998

Must be refreshing for the West Coasters to not have to, for once, find a TV or log into their devices at 4 or 5 pm local time though lol

No, they have spent some games in the top-6, but have they been given the leash to make mistakes without it resulting in a demotion? Hardly. Developing young talent, especially top picks like a 1st and 2nd overall, sometimes comes with growing pains.

Demoting them is fine if you have better players. Fast, Blackwell, Hunt, Blais, Goodrow and Vesey have no business being in the top-6 over these two.

As I said earlier in a different thread, I don't even feel it's a hierarchical thing anymore. Laf, Kakko and Chytil seem to play well when they're together. It's too bad that they are "line 3." And as I posted earlier in this thread, it's a head coaching trope to put guys more N-S guys, like ones you listed, onto a line that is too E-W in trying to balance things out.

Oh wow, Gallant f***ing up his second season with a team? Who saw that one coming?!

Get. Rid. Of. Him.

If it gets bad enough for him to be fired he will be.

No need to rush it. I think last season has earned him at least until the trade deadline to right the ship.

That doesn't matter. It's not improving the franchise's long term growth and success. It's hampering it. See this is the problem. There's a notion that this team is somehow winning a Cup this or next year and at all costs. They're not.
Next year should be their best opportunity so there's that

He earned nothing last season. Igor earned that.

He's gonna get fired next season anyway - why delay the inevitable? The trade deadline will be too late.

If people wanna jump on someone then jump on Drury. Our top 6 is comprised of 4 top 6 players and 2 4th liners. You either have to fill in around Chytil and let Laf and Kakko go top 6 or fill in the top 6 and let the kids play together, its as simple as that.

I want to point out that everyone was BEGGING for the kid line to be reunited. They had an excellent game against the Islanders where they shot poorly and the goalie couldn't make a save, after Gallant made lineup changes (not including the kid line). He wouldn't have any of it and then put together the kid line. Though that did work in one period against Detroit.

If the goal is to bring in a motivator, rather than a pure tactician, I don't think the lateness would be an issue.

Amazing how many Gallants we have on this board. Kids not playing as well as you want? Fine. But we’ve got guys making big money and doing NOTHING 5v5. Since we got the kids off the line, they’ve done less. So at what point do we put the focus on them?
There are far better coaches on this board than Gallant.
