I feel like this perfectly captures what Kopi's agent is in for.
Cracked me up.
I looked up some stats on Kopitar at
hockey-reference.com. Obviously you can see how Kopi's points per game have been declining from a high point in 2009. They have dropped from .988 to .810. But, in particular, I was looking at how his ratio of goals to total points has trended. One poster said an assist is worth the same amount of points as a goal. (Personally, I don't feel secondary assists should be equal in value to goals, but I digress.) Here is what I found:
Year G A Pts/GP
2006-07 20 + 41 = 61/72 GP G/G+A = 32.8%; PPG = .847
2007-08 32 + 45 = 77/82 GP G/G+A = 42%; PPG = .939
2008-09 27 + 39 = 66/82 GP G/G+A = 40.9%; PPG = .805
2009-10 34 + 47 = 81/82 GP G/G+A = 42%; PPG = .988
2010-11 25 + 48 = 73/75 GP G/G+A = 34.2%; PPG = .973
2011-12 25 + 51 = 76/82 GP G/G+A = 33%; PPG = .927
2012-13 10 + 32 = 42/47 GP G/G+A = 23.8%; PPG = .894 LOCKOUT
2013-14 29 + 41 = 70/82 GP G/G+A = 41.4%; PPG = .853
2014-15 16 + 48 = 64/79 GP G/G+A = 25%; PPG = .810
Also, while 2013 doesn't hold to this pattern, Kopi's goals/(goals + assists) ratio has declined from 2009. Simply put, we are complaining that Kopi has become too much of a perimeter player. You don't need to be close to the net to have an assist. What is the optimal ratio of goals to total points for Kopitar? If he feels that passing is a better option that shooting on many occasions, why is he no longer in prime scoring positions?
