Their ppgs were identical last year which is the measure of offensive output. That's with his annual slump and his slow regression. Just because toews had more goals doesn't mean he is a better offensive player.

Actually, yes it does. Goals are the primary criteria for determining how good someone is offensively and Toews is without a doubt a better offensive player at this point. There's no rational way to claim otherwise. It could only be argued that Kopitar is better defensively. Toews did a good clip better than Kopitar last year, not even including the playoffs. Ya, their points were similar, but Toews scored far more goals. Let's not pretend assists are on the same level as goals. Assists are important but take a backseat to goals. Toews scored 28 goals to Kopitar's 16. Kopitar averaged 2 more minutes per game too. Plus, Kopitar was at a -2 and had 11.9% shooting compared to Toews being at +30 with 14.6% shooting.

He's definitely not washed up, but he's also not worth $9+ million for 8 years. If it's for 8 years I hope Dean didn't go over $8 million per or we're in trouble.

Seriously, if I was Dean I wouldn't take Brisson's call right now.

I wouldn't do it to be rude, but I think Dean has some thinking to do on the Kopitar deal. I would tell Brisson that he needs to think about what he would be willing to take on a 4-5 year deal, because that might be my new frame of reference.

A goal is a point just as much as an assist. Are you arguing Stamkos is a more offensive player than Crosby?

8 more years, 8? 2 years too long imo, but I understand why the added years. Will be lucky to get 5 solid years from him. He's a really old 28, a lot of miles on those tires. Add that to a less talented roster, less talented pipeline, no 1st round draft picks, higher roster salaries, few expiring vet contracts, increasing amounts of RFA contracts. Forward thinking, it may not be in LA's best interest for an 8 yr extension.

But so far this season, it looks like he's changed up his game some. Avoiding contact and not going around the net will prolong your career. He's never shot much, so his hands, wrists and arms should still be fresh. Good move on his part, he should last another 8 seasons playing that light
