well, if it's hedged one year ahead the cap will not go down next season, right?

No, of course it will go down if HRR taken in by Candian teams and converted to U.S. dollars gets reduced due to the exchange rate. Remember what I posted about escrow going up from 16% to 20%? That tells you everything you need to know about what the NHL really thinks about HRR for this season.

Teams don't hedge to protect HRR, they hedge to protect themselves so they can pay the players in U.S. dollars as they are contractually required.

Lucic stays , you find a way. Brown is tradeable if you include a 1st rounder 2017 and a prospect . Or you give 1st and retain 1 million. Definitely doable

Definitely not, especially the second one. Who wants what amounts to a early 2nd round pick and Dustin Brown's contract?

You got to be kidding. Please tell me you are joking. We are not going to be giving away any more 1st draft picks, for chrissake!

not necessarily, that's up to Lucic. I think given the number of contracts that DL has to address, he might opt to wait to the summer to see what the Salary CAp will be. Right now that Canadian Dollar dipping below 70 cents is an issue. That means the CAP may even drop below 71M

Right now, for next yr the Kings are at $64,266,894 with left to sign

Enroth (or another backup)

Lucic
LEwis

McNabb
McBain
Schenn

(Assuming Enroth is gone)

Lucic was traded because he wanted (and at 28, you can't blame him, his homerun deal before the next CBA alters it) 8 yrs at 7 per, as per the NESN, 'firm' on the term. And if DL won't give him that, Benning will , he has a shrine to Lucic in his basement, was upset when Bruins traded him to the Kings.

But if DL wants him, and manages to get him for say 6.7 x 7 (I can't see him signing for less than his current figure) , that still doesn't leave anything for the others or the contracts for the following year, with TT putting up rising numbers, might require 7M range.

NOt an easy job with the CAP being unstable going forward. He'll be working those numbers...

The Kings could be looking at having a couple of players making the league minimum on the roster next season.

Well yeah, this too.

Maybe Dean has seen Draft Day. He is going to call all of the GMs he has dealt with come up with some BS story about how the picks he has in the third, fourth, and fifth rounds are the going to be the greatest players ever, and that he wants all of his mf'ing picks back.

hedging is done to 1. protect a team and 2. to protect nhl. the source is different, but the logic is the same. the only question is the level of drop, but imo it was anticipated, it would be moronic not to anticipate it. same **** happened before (2008 was fun), and lessons were learned. don't panic.

I'm curious to get everyone's opinion on the possibility of DL giving Kopitar a no-movement clause. I don't like the idea; not necessarily because I want to move Kopi at some point, but because it gets rid of his "I don't give NMC/NTC" reputation.

Again, read what the man wrote. The teams basically buy currency options to hedge their expenses (salaries to players). They don't hedge their revenue.

Also this level of drop was not anticipated. Look at the article you posted. It was talking about a drop down to $0.75. The loonie is now below that, and some analysts believe it will go all the way down to $0.60, and stay there for quite some time.

Things can change, but this is going to cause the salary cap to be stagnant or drop.

Didnt DL gave Handzus a NMC?

Yes, on a 4-year deal, but he knew he wanted Handzus around for the entire early portion of the rebuild. After that it was nada, zip, no NMCs.

30 second response. You are on your game my friend.

Im not happy about giving away 1st rounders either cause i wanna see what Dean can do with a high end forward if we can snub one but if it means that Browns contract is off the books and we keep Lucic then you do it

For a first round pick to a bottom feeder and given his so called leadership qualities ; just having a 2 time Cup Champion in the room can pay dividends for a bottom feeder. I can see someone biting especially if a prospect is thrown into the mix

It's all the economic discussion. Total turnoff. Uncle Gary says the salary cap is going up; that's good enough for me.

Uncle Gary was wrong last year Ron. It's all PR.

If you want to know what the NHL really thinks about HRR this season look at their actions, not their words. They are going to increase player salary escrow from 16% to 20%.

I know it's boring and not as much fun as swooning, "Ohhhhhh Kopi!!", but it's reality.

Not sure where you are getting they can somehow change HHR. That number is what it is. Hockey Related Revenue.
Where it would be mitigated by the falling Loonie the new TV deals year over year increase could help keep the cap stable for now. Depending on how fast it rises. And the fact they only took 50% of the initial monies and put into play for this year from that deal.

It's part of a section which allows for adjustments to % share or adding other sources of revenue. Not that they would necessarily utilize that section, but if it gets dire enough there are parts of the CBA which allow amendments.

I never thought about TV deals though, not sure if they are substantial enough. Although there is a section on HRR just for the Leafs

“@DarrenDreger: Kopitar extension should be completed tomorrow. Front loaded contract. $10million aav as @TSNBobMcKenzie reported. No move part of deal.â€

Front loaded? I like

Either way, DL needs Kopitar. DL is not getting another #1C unless they come rocketing out of the minors.

So he's gonna give him what he wants.

Brown is going nowhere either. It would take moving someone like Kempe with Brown to get him out of LA.
