Rangers are in the Soo sunday. Seems like a long way to go just for one game. Strange scheduling.

Only because I love to torture myself, I thought I’d look back on the trades made during the 2019-2020 shorten Covid season.

This one only stings more because we never got a chance to see what this team could have done in that playoff run, yet we were still left without those picks.

I'll put the actual pick in and in brackets the actual (#) then I’ll add some notable picks around them that were available

What i did notice is: it's not easy to hit on every pick and we all know that but that talent is there. You just need to find it.

We traded for Noel -
Gave up Stepien, -
2021-2nd Juan Copeland (22)Nia- Note- Easton Cowan (25)LDN Oliver Bonk (26) LDNLuca Pinelli (28) OTT
2022 2nd- Ryerson Leenders-(32)Miss-Note:Liam Greentree (34)WSR, Sam O'Reilly (37) LDN
2022 Ott-3rd-Kashawn Aitcheson (50) Bar- Note-Carter George (53) OS,Riley Patterson (57) FLN , Cole Davis (65) WSR
2024 Nia 3rd - ?

Traded for Wale
Gave up:
2024-3rd Ott- ?
2022-5th- (92)Tate Vader Soo -Note: Leo Serlin Gue-(102)
2020-8th-Nathaniel Davis- Don't think he ever played in the OHL.

Not only did that cancelled season help cripple the Rangers (giving up futures for what amounted to nothing), not playing at all the following year further crippled our fortunes not being able to sell off Micheal Vukojevic in what would have been a sell off season 20-21.

Also, the ruling allowing Donovan Sebrango to stay in the AHL for the 21-22 season stole away a massive trade chip that would have brought huge return in that year’s sell off that included McDonnell and Xhekaj. Sebrango would have been our top trade piece.

Both Vukojevic and Sebrango would have been arguably the top d-men made available league wide at those deadlines.

I understand the Rangers weren’t the only team hit with comparable unfortunate circumstances, but MM and the Rangers have fared well considering.

Can we and do we want the Rangers to catch SSM for #3? RN, if rather play Rd 1 vs Guelph instead of OS.

Of course, if Guelph keeps on falling, OS may have things to say about that.

I suppose if our top 3 D included Vuko, Sebrango & Xhekaj we're quite likely buyers instead, keeping Declan and maybe we flip young Rehkopf & the LeBlancs for top 2002s (if possible) and go on to take Hamilton's berth in the Memorial Cup Final! Without all those guys, we already had the goaltending .... & Petizian to accomplish the rare feat of upsetting the Knights ;)

All the would haves & could haves sure are fun to ponder and certainly abound in Jr Hockey!

1st and 2nd, 3rd and 4th, and 5th and 6th are up for grabs. Teams in those slots are interchangeable.

So today none of it matters.

But for me, a Guelph first round matchup and Saginaw or Soo second round matchup makes sense I’d think.

I think we try to finish third with the 2nd round in mind. We shouldn’t be concerned with the first round opponent.

I'd be a lot more concerned about first round matchup as a top 4 team in the East, than I would be as top 4 team in the West.

I’d think Rehkopf would have been a no-go to be traded by both him being untouchable, to him refusing to waive. We did have to “convince” him to report after taking a “flyer” on him. Can’t see us trying to trade him, or him waiving.

But any other young player would have been in play.

Looking at conference stats at this point in time one I find interesting is the Storm GA which is 2nd lowest next to London. Rangers have let in 16 more goals and Owen Sound is quite high in this stat. If the Storm could find a way to put some pucks in the net they could make it interesting in the play offs in the first round.

I think that at this point it would be beneficial to avoid London in the second round if at all possible. I would like our chances against a Soo or Saginaw before a London, simply based on our history against them in the regular season and playoffs (besides the 2021-22 season of course). Obviously you could have an upset in the first round and it could mess with who plays who in the second round, but as others have pointed out upsets in the first round are very rare (besides kitchener).

Would agree. London has the best D in the league. Come playoff time that’s who you don’t want to play.

Gotta go through them all anyways. At least they’re back to getting home ice advantage for a round anyways. Sag could be a team that made to many moves that it ends up hurting them. I agree that London would be a team you'd want to avoid for as long as possible

Let's wrap up that playoff spot tonight. Looks like Missile is on the injury list and no sign of Martin.

Rehkopf - Sop - Ellinas
Swick - Mešár - Šalé
Stark - Romano - Lam
Bottineau - Mercer - Pugliese

Andonovski - Brzustewicz
Reid - Motew
Dirracolo - Savard

Parsons

Frankly I'm not concerned at all because at this point I expect little to no contribution from Martin. Anything more is a bonus.
I’d be concerned. Really concerned. We opted to go with him over an OA D, that we desperately needed.

It’s one thing to go with Martin. It’s another having to do without his expected contribution.

Josh brown notes
-Mitchell Martin has been cleared for full contact at practice.
-At least one scout said he expects Swick to be a late round pick in this year’s NHL draft.
-Luke Ellinas is getting some draft hype. Teams like his size and IQ
-Mike McKenzie five-for-five on making the playoffs as GM

Brutal way for Schwindt to end his last game in Kitchener.

Rehkopf is a class act. When asked point blank by Fixter about his lack of time played courtesy of Letang, he answered by saying how grateful he was to be on Team Canada, what a super cool experience, etc blah blah blah.

But we all know he spoke up on the ice last night with 2 goals and 4 assists for 6 points
OR as Jussi corrected Fixture "7 points" since Rehkopf was the assist on a Sting goal.

Nice of Rehkopf to help out Letang while helping Rangers take the sting out of Sarnia.

In a league where 80% of your teams make the playoffs, making the playoffs is no accomplishment. Especially when you consider multiple teams in each conference go into sell mode at the deadline.
It's what you do in the playoffs that truly matters.

Errrrr..correction: its what you do in the latter rounds of the playoffs that truly matters. 😉
Making a courtesy appearance means nothing.

Sarnia force the Rangers into all sorts of mistakes in the first with a heavy forecheck. They started the 2nd period the same way and had huge issues getting out of the defensive end. Pugs line came out and made a bit of a statement and fired them up and they were off to the races. Parsons had to make some stellar saves early to keep the score down until they get going. Razor was unstoppable. He did have a couple of bloopers as did a bunch of other top players. Sop scored a beauty and bowed to the crowed. Not sure what the scraps were about but at least they showed some moxie. Power play is working now. On to a girl named Soo.
