Mach85, Well said!

"I have no problem with how the Meireles camp handled this, and it should serve as a reminder to reserve judgement until things play out fully."

I agree completely.

As fans, we can get pretty emotional and that's not a bad thing.

Being he is a first rounder I wouldn't be surprised if the conditions were that he plays 1 game for us.

To me we are helping the Colts out and the 15th rounder isn't going to hurt us.

Similar to the trade proposals discussed on here when the Meireles situation was still uncertain!

Maybe one or two of the conditional seconds depends which yr he shows up here.
If he shows up now then it's all three, if he shows up next year then only 2 seconds.....yadda yadda yadda

I have no problem helping out the Colts. According to a tweet from the Colts thread, if he reports in the first 3 years then its three 2nds. If he reports in year 4 then its two 2nds. If he reports at all then its another asset for us. I don't see a problem with this trade from our side.

I'm guessing that it's just if he signs with Kitchener, all three of those seconds belong to Barrie.

is the compensation 1st round pick #20

I believe it will be but I don't think it should be, these teams get compensated very well in the return they get for these players from the teams they go to and then on top of that they get a 1st 1 spot down?!?! How is that fair to the teams that pick after them. This year for example Niagara and Owen Sound both finished ahead of Kitchener yet both got to pick before them with compensation picks. I am fine with the comp pick. However in a league where you're not allowed to trade 1st rd picks, there is no reason a team should be picking twice before another team, (see Oshawa/Erie). The comp pick should be moved to the end of round 1, each team gets their pick and then the comp teams can pick again in order of their lost selection, So instead of Flint picking 1st and 5th next year it would be 1st and 21st and the. Barrie 22nd.

Good point Rubbers. Teams have taken advantage of this situation on purpose knowing said player will not report. Therefore they should not be rewarded. In fact the league should either edit the rule or get rid of it altogether.

I kind of agree with Brown on this one. I don't know anything about Tortoa but Murray's going against his own philosophy of building through the draft here. He (or the next GM) won't have to deal with it for five-six years. If those second rounders were over the next three years it might not seem so low-risk.

Saw on twitter the break down on the trade. If the player plays in 2015-2016,2016-2017 or 2017-2018 its three second. If 2018-2019 its 2 seconds. Can't believe I wrote that and almost understood it:). Apparently he is a dynamic high speed, highly skilled kid.

He is very high speed and skill, but right now he is also 5'5" and 135 lbs, maybe 140 soaking wet. Maybe the fastest kid I have ever seen, faster than Bitten last year. Ranger fans need to hope that he develops and grows in the U.S. and can join the team when Miereles, Mash, Bunaman, Allen, Hall, Roberts are ready for a run.

The other night Gareffa's jersey looked like a mini-skirt on him. Right now Tortora's would look like a gown on him. I am surprised that Dan Lebold doesn't have these jerseys tailored.

Funny stuff Chico. Still wonder how the Rangers got involved with Tatora or how they became interested in getting him on the team.

My guess is with the players they have coming up their ideal year for a hard run will be 17-18, the year Tortora should finish his NTDP commitment and become a factor for the Rangers, they should have a couple solid years leading up to then, but that should be they year they blossom into a legit contender, Barrie however I believe is on the down turn of their contending years, they need to do something this year therefore having Tortora in the program for 2 years does nothing for them, plus they would have a much harder time convincing him to sign with a rebuilding team, I believe they drafted him with hopes that he would commit this year and help a team to a championship, since that didn't work out, trade him to a team that has a legit shot of him coming in and stock the cupboards for the rebuild. Plus both teams lucked out with a very low risk trade, if he decides to go to college after his years in the NTDP then Kitchener is out a 15th rd pick (nothing) and Barrie still gets their comp pick, if he commits, Barrie loads up and Kit. get one hell of a prospect. I am surprised however this deal wasn't more prorated. If I am Kitchener, I am willing to give up 3 2nd's if he comes next year, but I would only want to give up 2 for an unproven, most likely drafted rental player if he doesn't show up for 2 years. If that's the case there is a very good chance he is a 1 and done player as he would be able to go to the AHL being drafted out of the dev. program. at least put a stipulation on that 3rd 2nd,being that he plays a game as a 19 year old

That's my assessment on the team -two years away. I hope Hiebert doesn't try to force something that isn't there this season. As for Totora's lack of size. I believe 5'5" 135lbs is about the size Marner and Bracco were when they were drafted.

Worth acquiring the rights to Tortora for a 15th round pick. In two years MH can decide if he's worth the 3 x 2nds and pursue him ... or not. Great value if he's the next Derek Roy ... not so great if he's the next Scott Teskey.

Opilka is going to steal plenty of close games for Ktown this season. What l have seen is nothing but good news for our future.Along with Carty could be the best 1-2 punch in the OHL.With 4 solid lines and eventually a trade or two the D will be more than adequate.lt could be a fun year to see the team develop into a contender dispite the critics.

Can I ask....

will Nick McHugh and Elijah Roberts stick with Rangers or will he be sent to Dutchmen?

One thing that was debated last game in our section was of the 8 D that are still on the roster, and assuming they go with 7, who is moved out either via trade or demotion?

Initially, I figured Roberts was the easy choice to be a candidate to play around 20 games here and the rest at the B level. I know it was only an ex game, and my first look at his play, but it wouldn't surprise me to see him kept around full time.

Had Smith still been behind the bench, I'd quickly assume DiPerna would be moved on considering the press box time he's seen in his time here. But with the new staff, he may have a new "lease on life" so to speak. IMO, he should never have saw the press box time he saw under Smith and I feel he'll be kept on.

Easily, Hora and Sergeev are locks. The same with Brosnan as we dealt for him. If we include DiPerna, that gives us 4 graduating D-men on the roster. Unless we're a top contender, that may be too many since the likes of Blaisdell, Hall and Allen need the development going forward.

If DiPerna proves to evolve into the player he was projected to become when he was chosen in the second round or the draft, it would be tough to move him. For me, I see a big three or DiPerna, Hora and Sergeev. I feel Hall and Allen have to play period. Blaisdell is the only '97 birthdate on the blue line and should be our PP QB next year.

I haven't seen him play yet, but could Brosnan be the guy who maybe, when all is said and done, prove to be the odd man out? Has he impressed or has he just been ok.

In any case, I'm assuming Hall will sit for a few games after the match penalty. Has there been a ruling on that from the league yet?

I only saw each player once in the last ex game, but fr what I saw of that game, Roberts has a chance to making the big club but McHugh, and Garreffa for that matter, need at least a year at the JrB level.

I can see Roberts getting some games in the first part of the season while some of the others getting icetime to prove themselves to either show they should be kept or increase their trade value. IMHO that one player being showcased for a trade would be DiPerna. I do 100% agree with you that he got shafted by Smith and like a lot of junior players when they get traded it's mainly due to the "age factor". I have no issue if the traded player was Brosnan instead of DiPerna.
I reviewed the hit in slo-mo that Hall gave the IceDog player and to be honest I'm not sure if it was a head shot. A violent hit that was interference due to the pass to him was deflected but a head shot? A match was called due to the explosion and player was down on the ice. But when the player got up he wasn't showing any headshot symptoms and was sitting in the stands instead of being evaluated for a concussion. (yes, I know that isn't a fool proof evaluation of receiving a headshot)
As for keeping Hall and Allen....YES PLEASE!

Agreed.....too much depth at forward for either McHugh or Garreffa to make the team...........this year!
