This is probable, but can you imagine if a team came in with a 1 x 4M offer sheet (2nd round compensation), this would put the Habs over a barrel.

They’ll put byron on LTRI and trade one of hoffman, armia, or drouin.

Yes that would suck. Fortunately for us, there's not a lot of teams with the cap space to pull that off. Plus hopefully Dach sees being a Hab as a great opportunity for ice time, and doesn't sign one.

Yeah for Dach it's the perfect opportunity to reset, as part of a new core under MSL. He's good friend with Ghule too and with Suzuki no pressure to be 1C and no pressure to win, it's ideal for him

Developing Dach, will also include his face off issues.........he's 21 guys, and has had prior injuries to one of wrists.............don't read anything into his stats yet.
We have a different staff now, to help develop these kids, properly with a method and goal in mind.
The Bergevin Therrien, Dom years are behind us....

Less info for other GMs, let them guessing on what’s up.

I don't buy that. Other teams are not dumb. They know we are over the cap after we sign Dach. If fans can see it, other GM can see it and more.

No rush to get the deal done...I imagine alot of players and agents are just wrapping up their vacation.

Either way, you can much pencil in a 2yr bridge deal around 2M/per.

Yeah, I'm thinking he gets something close to what Chytil got with the Rangers last off season ($2.3M for 2 years). That's actually what I thought KK would be signed for and than bang... Offer sheet.

So you think he's not signed yet because they can't figure the right amount? He's clearly not signed yet due to our cap situation.

Hughes probably doesn't want to go over the cap as it will be tougher to shed salary at that point.

I get that angle but lets face it. Every fan and GM knows we will be over the cap and might be forced to go with a 21 or 22 man roster with 3 goalies to get under the cap to start the season.

If we see it, so do other GM's. Several teams are looking to trade a contract out to clear cap. Seems to be at a standstill but I would imagine the dust settles come late Aug or early Sept.

I don't know why he's not signed yet. Which is why I asked the question. Not signed because we would go over the cap? Not sure it's that reason. Could be but this is not secrete information if so. Everyone can see the cap hits we got and the space left.

I completely understand what you're saying, I'm seeing it and you're seeing it, everyone's seeing it so it doesn't really make a lot of sense, to be honest.

As a Habs fan we have to find some positive things... lmao

I'm just curious. I get the cap space but I would have expected a deal by now. It's not like he had a bust out season and he wants $5M+.

What is Hughes up to? We can only guess and there is not much hockey to talk about at the moment.

Thanks! Very interesting link! It would be interesting that they also monitor clear wins or draw, it would be a better individual indicator.

Also, how puck possession is determined could also differ from one arena to another. Problem with these stats is if there is a home town bias, it could be interpreted as home ice advantage of last change center selection.

Hughes is doing something, and soon................at least one body is heading out of town..............dream scenario would be Drouin, but more than likely Hoffman or Armia.

Drouin is gone this offseason if he has a descent season under MSL maybe we even get a pick at deadline not worried about him its hes last year the dream would be to get rid of the longer contracts like Hoffman,Armia or Gallagher ( chances are very slim )

Yeah, I feel the same. Ideally Drouin but most likely Hoffman or Armia. Maybe Byron or Dadonov. Hard to say for sure. We have to assume one of them is traded.

We can all expect a Ryan Johansen type of C for Habs with Kirby Dach. That would be pretty good. They have similar size, both high pick, both have silence debut in this league, rookie year of Johansen at 19 years old: 21 points, 9 goals in 67 games, second season at 20 years old, 12 points in 40 games. (Dach put 10 points in 18 games at 19 years old) and 23 points, 8 goals in 64 games at 18 years old.

Johansen put mostly seasons numbers with 15-25 goals and 45 assists, he is a playmaker first and we can all hope that type of numbers for Dach.

It's a realistic projection to me... add a Johansen type of C, it's huge and Dach have potential to become that type of player.

Drouin is most likely the one gone. Hoffman and Armia have term.

We can retain on Drouin and just be done with it.

I was thinking about that too. Maybe we try to move Hoffman or Armia but they have term and you're not wrong... teams will think about how they look on their team but they will use their cap leverage as they should.... probably send back another contract with term. Not really what we are trying to do.

One year guys in Byron, Drouin, Dadonov. Easier to move if we retain. What are we looking for here? About $2M - $3M in cap reduction? Either we retain or take back a one year contract that ends up saving us the cap we prefer. $2M -$3M ish, is likely enough

RyJo is not a bad comparison. Good find.

What is the latest news on Byron's recovery? Anybody know?

Also, we don't need two moves. We can try for two moves but cap issues is a big issue so it's not easy to move contracts this offseason. All we need is to make one trade where we save about $2M - $3M in cap. Then it's not so tight for Hughes and Gorton to manage daily during the season. Then we wait for the deadline to move others.

I do not get this Drouin hate around this board. If I where to pick a guy out of Drouin, Hoffman or Armia it would be Hoffman 10 times before Drouin. Both Armia and Drouin can be useful on this team.

No hate..............just a terrible waste of 5.5M on the cap with as we know, almost zero effort. Don't want a perimeter pansy around the kids on the team. Can't shoot, wont go to the net.
Pretty simple..............but no hate....stating the obvious..
Glad he is gone soon...

Drouin is never healthy, just for that technically hoffman has more value.

I’d also move Hoffman or Armia (or both) before Drouin if I could but it’s Drouin who is the pending UFA and would be easier to move from a strictly dollars standpoint. The HOFF and Army both have term and won’t be easy to move.

Honestly, Drouin won’t really bring anything to the team at this point so it’s for the best we just move on. Even if we retain half, we will have enough to sign Dach.

Drouin will be moved at the deadline and the return will be underwhelming.

Armia will likely get bought out at the end of the season, but it is really worth it? Hoff can be traded easily with some retention.
