Watching some video of Dach's play rn... Man, I'm pretty sure he's instantly our best playmaker, or at least very close to Suzuki, and will probably be cementing himself as better moving forward (if gets back on track in his development).

If that happens, I'm curious to see if the Suzuki - Caufield duo is eventually split and we see a Dach - Caufield duo emerging. I think Dach should remain at center to maximize his skillset so I see these scenarios potentially unfold in the next few years :

Slafkovsky - Dach - Caufield
Farrell/J.Roy/Heineman - Suzuki - Mesar

or

Slafkovsky - Suzuki - Caufield
Farrell/J.Roy/Heineman - Dach - Mesar

or even

Farrell/J.Roy/Heineman - Suzuki - Caufield (small line tho)
Slafkovsky - Dach - Mesar

I think we see some trades involving our forward prospects because we're starting to lack spots to give to everyone. Let's be patient but I see a logjam coming up since a lot of our young forwards (Dach, Slaf, Farrell, Roy, Kidney, Mesar, the 2023 pick) are more suited for top-6 than a bottom-6 role.

That said, I don't think M. St-Louis is the classic top-6/bottom-6 kinda coach, I think in his mentality every line could do everything well so maybe we go with a strong and deep top-9 instead of stacking the first two lines.

One thing's sure is that Suzuki's gonna be the match-up guy. We have no one who is as smart defensively among our forwards. Dach has a two-way element to his game but we don't want him to be that guy yet, he needs to work on being the playmaking magician he was in juniors.

Huberdeau is our best playmaker!

To be honest i really want to see Dach and Caufield together, he’s the kind of center who could help Caufield score more 5 vs 5 goals.

Mildly interesting quote on Dach:

"You have a guy like Alex DeBrincat who was under Kaner's wing. And I like to think that Kirby and I had that bond in some ways too. And out they go, out the door. Over and over, we've seen that turnover.

Can people just discuss without you being all worked up everytime someone says something positive?

we get it you don’t like him for some reason.

I value Dach but he's not getting Caufield on his wing when Suzuki/Caufield look so good together. Possible that Dach gets time on the PP with both of them but I'm guessing Dach will be on the 2nd unit. Doubt Dvorak or Evans will get PP unit time when they are needed on the defensive end more.

If you put Dach with Caufield while Dach is learning maturity on what a center is responsible for, you better have a winger like Lehkonen to play on the other side. We don't though.

Suzuki and Caufield doesn’t look that good together 5 vs 5…

I don’t hate them together but suzuki slow down the play and i’m not sure it’s Caufield’s game, he’s way better shooting on the rush and quick plays. Slafkovsky can add some dimension on this line, though.

Dach is a playmaking C, who can carry the puck, cuts to the middle, push defenders to make plays, the kind of center Caufield needs.

By the way i’m not talking for game 1 at the start of the season, i’m talking eventually lol

Dach is not bad defensively, he’s a two-way C.

You speak like Dach is bad defensively i don’t know where this comes from lol he is a two-way center.

Suzuki and Caufield are good together both at 5/5 and on the PP. From Feb 10th to end of season (MSL start point), Caufield has an amazing 1.61 goals/60 at 5/5 playing with Suzuki. That's top 17 in the NHL during that period where Matthews is 2.3/60. A guy like Stamkos was at 1.62/60.

Caufield's stats playing with Suzuki when MSL put them together full time is top notch. You're reaching here to move him off thinking you will get better with Dach.

Don't mess with a good thing and your 5/5 analysis has flaws.

It’s okay to let them play with other players when there’s some down time in the season and are producing less. MLS already said it last year, he believe in switching things up sometimes.

All i said was that Dach’s strength and Caufield’s fits together, at least on paper for now. So they’ll eventually get to play together for sure. I don’t really understand why you’re negative about that.

He might try it but it will come down to Dach's maturity. He's going to let them be creative but he also not going to assemble the lines without the 200' game factored in.

Both Dach and Caufield on the same 5/5 line requires a winger like Lehkonen with them.

I think Dvorak would be good fit on his LW with Dadonov on RW. Dach can focus on practicing strong side faceoffs and Dvorak can jump in for important situations/weak side faceoffs.

Anderson - Suzuki - Caufield
Dvorak - Dach - Dadonov
Hoffman - Evans - Gallagher
Drouin - Pitlick - Armia

The biggest knock on Dach in the NHL so far is that he never uses his size in the offensive zone, cuts to the middle or pushes defenders to make plays. I think Montreal wants to work with him on that, but I wouldn't expect him to play the way you're suggesting.

reality is if Dach works out, then we basically have a 1A 1B system. no clear CUT 1C, like a 100+ point producer. I am really hoping tank command 2.0 lands us in the bottom 3 again this year so we can get that elusive 1C powerhouse.
