is it?

(edit - worded it backwards)

#4 of 6 D means 50% of the D are better than you and the rest (2 are worse, 3 are better)
#3 of 4 C means 50% of the C are better than you and the rest (1 is worse, 2 are better)

and C are more rare than D (4 per team vs 6 per team) which gives C the win by a nose ;)

A 4th D plays about 20min/game.
A 3rd C plays about 15min/game.

It's like Savard/Romanov vs Evans last season

Technically speaking, there should be more Ds than Centers in the League but.. as there aren't that many center spots, a lot of them will be moved to the wings.

Depends. In any case, Romanov has a lot of work to be an effective top 4. His offense is non existent at the moment and he needs better tracking of his man

I'm mostly generally speaking there. A 4th D is still more valuable I believe. Mind you, a 3rd C can be a 2nd C in another team and same for a 4th D. Or the other way around. Chiarot was almost a top pairing D here but much lower in the depth chart in Florida.

I think this going to be a "show me" type season for dach.

He will probably slot in as the 3C next year with the way the lineup is right now.

I think the Habs want to see him eventually make Dvorak expendable, but it won't be handed to him.

Dvorak had a bad season but he has more of a track record. He scored 15 goals a few times and is only 26. It won’t be an easy task for Dach to make Dvorak look for another job.

I mean he won't be able to prove himself if he plays with scrums on the 3rd line and little PP. It's not like the guys, other than suzuki and caufield proved anything themselves last year.

He will probably get PP time, and play against weaker matchups. The nature of the beast is that suzuki, Dvorak, and Evans are also available down the middle.

They aren't just going to hand him a 2C role.

Good point ;)

There was a zoom call with him.

Thanks for the ZOOM call.

Dach has been training with Guhle for the last 4-5-6 yrs...this is good news (good stuff).
They are probably good buddies.

top4 D > 3C

<Dach's potential: 1a or 1b center...#2 center...or a very solid two-way #3 center (Dach's potential is way higher vs Romanov's potential, imo).

<Romanov: #4-5-6 dman (may be a #3-4 dman one day...but not on a contender, imo). I really really liked Romanov when he was in the WJC (huge fan). But, it wasn't the same with the Habs. Maybe he'll show more with the Isles? Bottom line...I don't see Romanov in the top 4...on a contender.

Top 4 D (2021 Habs went to Cup Finals): Shea Weber, Jeff Petry, Chiarot, Edmundson....this was a solid huge/big/tall top 4 D...best top 4 D we've had in a long long time. I hope we get this kind of top 4 D in the future...again. Guhle and Barron should lead the way.

Imo: just my opinion...but I didn't see Romanov as part of our top 4 D in the future (or I didn't want to...I want a better top 4 D). Romanov is a #5-6 on a contender...he's in the top 4 on a team NOT making the playoffs. I see Guhle and Barron in our top 4 D...for sure.

Dach still has the potential to be a 1a - 1b center...but there shouldn't be any pressure to get him there quickly. Start or rotate Dach with Dvorak for the #2-3 center positions.

Romanov+picks for Dach is a good gamble (we have lots and lots of D-depth...now we have more CENTER-depth...good stuff).

Note: from the ZOOM...Dach has been training with Guhle for the last 4-5-6 yrs...so they are good buddies. This is good news (good to know).

I was generally speaking about that comment. Dach's potential will only be reached if he fully recovers from his wrist injury. I don't believe it was worth the gamble and I'd rather pick someone at #13.

Time will tell.

he played and entire season and a half after recovering from his broken his wrist. It is healed. He was 19 years old and treated by specialists. Fractures heal. Can we put this to rest???

#13 pick: I still wonder if it was in play...I'm guessing the deal was "you want Dach...find a way to get us the #12 or #13 pick...and Dach is yours." (this is a guess). So, the #13 pick was for Chicago the entire time (if Mtl managed to get it). The Romanov trade was a quick FLIP (#13+pick for Dach)...I'm guessing that this was the agreement, so...our Habs NEVER had the #13 pick to select a Nazar (for example).

Martin St-Louis and our Habs (Guhle/Caufield/Suzuki)/Montreal could be a good new beginning for Kirby Dach (Dach has been training with Guhle for the last 4-5 yrs). Dach: I'm hoping for a solid #1a-1b or #2 center (but no rush...2-3seasons+)...or at worst a VERY solid two-way #3 center (CENTER depth is very important, imo). MSL and our Habs could really help Dach achieve his full potential.

Cheers

He hasn't fully healed according to Hawks fans.

that's why i like drafting Centres, as they are generally higher IQ players and almost always able to migrate to the wing if needed.
Unless said player is a phenom on the wing to begin with (Slaf) keep drafting Cs..

Typically, positional assignments start at a young age and develop from there. as such, almost always the "best" forwards are placed 1C-2C-3C, and from there the 3C hops on PP wing..

Jon Drouin never recovered.

Shelden Souray didn't fully recover either - by the way, I saw his scars and they were gnarly! Wrist injuries are no joke, like ankle or achilleas tendon injuries (see Chipchura, Kyle)

OK so blame Hughes since he just bought damaged goods for a 13th overall 1st round pick. If Chicago rushed a damaged player back then Dach should admit it...retire and sue the Blackhawks. We are jumping to stupid conclusions about his wrist. Let him play in a normal environment...not the sh*tshow that Chicago was last year and we can discuss next off season. FFS!

Imo, they don't care about Dach goal scoring abilities. They will push him to develop his passing game. He is gonna be a pass-heavy center, with goal scoring wingers. This is how they can bring him to reac his ceiling, or not far from it.

I know everyone like Caufield with Suzuki but if Dach can reach his potential he's the kind of center who can help Caufield be a scoring threat 5 vs 5 and get to 40 goals.
