1 year younger, not older no?

And let's give it some time, perhaps until he's 25, to see what he really is. As long as his cap hit isn't high, no need to cut ties quickly.
well, in regards to his injury and getting a second chance - I assume he will be very affordable for the near future. if he breaks out, then he is worth it.

Precisely. Due to his inability or unwillingness to leverage his size and his lack of skill with faceoffs, he doesn't seem to have any future as a center at the very least, even if he does manage to put his game together in some way. If he reaches the level of Drouin in terms of production, absent injuries and truly unfortunate mental health issues, we would be very, very lucky.

What a pile of nonsense.

- He played his D+1 in Chicago straight out of the draft and did not look out of place and finished the season with a great showing in the bubble.

- Dach's D+2 sophomore season has him on a 45 point pace and named captain of the Canadian U20 WJC team before the catastrophic wrist injury ends his season. He was on a similar scoring pace to Nick Suzuki's D+3 despite only being in his D+2.

- He comes back for his D+3 season and struggles with finding his pre-injury form on a team that is in disarray.

Centers almost always struggle with faceoffs to start their career, especially when they miss the majority of a season due to injury. Then having to fight through the rehabilitation of a badly broken wrist while taking faceoffs against NHL centers clearly compounded the issue.

You go ahead and limit him to Drouin upside and label him as a likely failure at center with the information that I just shared........I choose to exercise reason and common sense and look forward to watching Dach's progression unfold through a lens that is not obscured by the hot takes of the common laymen.

Last season resulted in an opportunity to grab a 21 year old 6'4" center drafted 3rd overall who was on a solid developmental trajectory before being injured.....Hughes wisely jumped on the chance to acquire a franchise altering talent who may or may not work out but the potential reward is absolutely worth the risk

His size is awesome for a Center. He has the smarts to be a good two way C. He’s pretty strong. He’s a good stickhandler. His passing IQ is superior to KK.

IMO the key will be the health of his wrists. His things to improve are related: 1- His faceoffs, 2- His shot. He needs to work on it. Learn to shoot a lot more. When in doubt shoot. If there’s one thing that makes me rip my hair out, it’s when he passes when it was obvious he should shoot.

I'd say it was worth trading Romanov for a 15-20% chance of getting the best version of what Dach can become. And his floor is likely 3C.

If you hit, Dach is the jackpot. If you don't, you got a 3C for a 4D. Who cares
Basically.

It’s still way more than 15-20% though

He’s very young and has plenty of room to improve and develop. He will grow with Caufield, Suzuki, Slafkovsky.

Did I miss it or has there not been any proper PC for Dach? You would think it’s a big enough of an acquisition to hold his own conference. Unless they plan on trading him away shortly..

I don't think so. For every guy like him that pans out, 3 or 4 never become a star.

Jack Han had a pretty good break down which I agree with. While his shot and face-offs could use work, the bigger thing is that he needs to play like a 6'4" center in the offensive zone. He's got to use his size and reach to make D uncomfortable.

He generates his offense off the rush, but he's got the tools to be great on the cycle instead of awful there. Hopefully Montreal can help his development there.

There was a zoom call with him.

Good points where he can be more effective. I’ve seen him show some grit when annoyed. He can certainly work on his cycle game. This would make him a very good 3rd C and is well within reach…. To really win this trade (aka being a legit Top-6 on a good team), he’ll need to chip in more offensively.

He does generate offence from the rush, but he needs to score more from the slot.Enough being unselfish to a fault. More shots from the circle, One-timers, picking up rebounds and tipping the puck. If he’s partly considered a replacement for Shane Wright who’s a beast in those areas, he‘ll need to prop up those skills.

top4 D > 3C
is it?

(edit - worded it backwards)

#4 of 6 D means 50% of the D are better than you and the rest (2 are worse, 3 are better)
#3 of 4 C means 50% of the C are better than you and the rest (1 is worse, 2 are better)

and C are more rare than D (4 per team vs 6 per team) which gives C the win by a nose ;)
