We will see. I think they are banking a lot on MSL.

In terms of rebuild its a calculated risk. If he develops, you get your 1-2 punch, if he doesnt, MTL sucks again next yr and you get another shot.

Im not sold but willing to see how this rebuild goes. To me this looks like MTL being okay with stinking next yr too if things dont work out

We didn't trade #26. We still own #26 & #33.
My bad. I misunderstood the deal.

It's funny, had we just traded Romanov and the two picks for Dach I would probably like it.

I really liked Romanov and a pick for 13.

I really don't like 13 and another pick for Dach.

I feel there was better talent available at 13 than Dach. Maybe Hughes feels that Dach just needs a change of scenery to break out.

The way I see it though we have Suzuki and then a prospect trending towards bustville and an extremely overrated Dvorak.

It's simultaneously depressing and funny though. Depressing in that it's not very good and funny in that it's still the best we've looked up the middle since probably Koivu and Pleks.

Dach was an entirely different tier of prospect than KK. He's the better profile.
No? You just fell in love with him.

Nothing indicates what you say is true.

Production predraft: KK
Production d1: kk
Production d2: Wash
Production d3 KK
U18 Hlinka: Wash

In reality both players have similar strengths and weaknesses, theyve had similar paths and theyre both good top 5 candidates in strong draft years.

I expect both to be around 50 points 2way Cs and I think both could have been 80 points 2way force had they not been managed by idiots and had injury troubles.

3 teams passed on Wright, I'm assuming they saw or know something we don't...maybe it was the interviews, who knows.
I actually don't think it says anything about Wright that we didn't already know.

In the case of the Devils they were drafting positional need and reached. They likely assumed we would draft Wright leaving them Slafkovski, and when we didn't decided to go with their next winger.

With the Coyotes they probably married themselves to Cooley and didn't prepare for a scenario where Wright was available.

That's similar to how we got Caufield. Sometimes teams pass on an obvious BPA because they weren't prepared for him to drop and married themselves to the top guy on their list.

Seen him play in Saskatoon. Good young player. Time will tell if we payed to high of a price to get him. It does seem steep. This will end up being a very big day for HuGo. They could end up gaining or losing a lot of the fanbase depending on how their decisions today turn out.

I hate letting go of Romanov but is Romanov for a 6'4 21 year old centre a steep price?

They are unicorns. That’s why they are valued. We will see how it goes, but these are two very rare talents.
I don't see it but I'm not a pro scout. Hope I'm wrong but like when people hyped Romanov before he came over, it's hard to imagine a player producing numbers in NHL after producing little in their Euro league.

Teams passing on Wright actually reminds me of 2012 when teams passed on Forsberg for whatever reason.

Nemec is a defenseman not a winger. He isn't much of a reach - he was ranked #4 but this draft was mostly wide open (as evidenced by the 1st overall pick)

Coyotes didn't prepare for a situation where Shane Wright fell from 2nd to 3rd? Are you kidding lol, they 100% did. IIRC, teams come in with a list of their top 100 prospects and go down that list with some adjustments along the way. There is literally 0 chance they didn't prepare for Wright to drop 1 or 2 spots (depending on where the Coyotes had him ranked).

...funny, it's cuz he didn't score much in his Euro League...

I haven't been tracking Dach at all besides knowing he's been disappointing since he was drafted. His stats suggest as much too.

Anyone with better knowledge willing to update the rest of us? He was a amazing prospect in his draft year, that I remember. What's happened since?

Imagine trading a 13th overall pick (could have been Kemell, Lekkerimaki, Nazar) for a very recent 3rd overall pick whose team (that is in a rebuild, no less) doesn't want him (a center - something Chicago also needs) & his broken wrist anymore. Wonderful...

We should have gambled the 26th pick for a major red flag like Dach... NOT 13th...
Chicago wasn't trading him for anything less than a top 15 pick...so it's not fair to say they didn't want him.

Who is a better talent at 13 than Dach? Just for the record.

...well, in his 2nd year in the NHL he had 10 points in 18 games...then got hurt, surgery...then this year was thrown to the wolves by Chicago playing against Top Pairing Dmen for most of the season when he shouldn't have been...kid has talent, hands, good skater with a great 200-ft game, uses his big frame well and, once he puts on a bit of muscle, will be a force down low with the puck...people get soooo hung up on stats without seeing these young kids play...
Yeah that 26 point campaign is really showing a player who is trending in the right direction.

Folks criticized Wright for 94 points in 63 games while Dach had 73 points in 62 games in his draft year...not necessarily dominant.
He has not improved.
