They outsmarted themselves trying to reclaim value on an (in their minds) declining assetOk, I need to say this-
WTF was Chicago thinking trading this kid? He is a RH version of Bobby Smith.
Beyond Dach himself, his play as of late is a good omen for the new managements ability to evaluate talent.
Also maybe a reminder to give patience to a guy like Slafkovsky.

It's pretty crazy that everyone minus Suzuki missed so much time that nobody managed to catch up to Dach and Caufield who also missed a lots of games. We finally have a player who passed Cole Caufield for 2nd in points on the team
Kirby Dach
Mind you, he missed 5 weeks when he was 3rd in scoring and came back 1 game and 1 period ago.

Loved the trade at the time love it more now, were two years away from being a menace and if we were able to ice Dach, Suzuki, Caufield and Dubois on the PP next year I’d be in heaven

I was pretty agnostic but sceptical. Just felt like the lack of dominant junior production, the injury and Chicago's quickness to deal him (though not knowing their dedication to the tank I guess) and our horrid luck would screw us. Still I felt like we were dealing from a place of positional strength with our glut of LDs.Dach trade thread over the summer was fun when Habs acquired him
Amen omg this!!!Beyond Dach himself, his play as of late is a good omen for the new managements ability to evaluate talent.

You don't stop consulting the amateur scouting group as soon as a player turns pro. For a 10 year vet, sure the amateur scouts have no business in the evaluation. But Dach was 3 years removed from 3rd overall. The amateur scouts still have their notes and if you're not consulting them, you're missing some data points. To be fair pro and amateur scouting are separate departments.
Slaf was trending in the right direction too.. the key here, is big players can teach other big players how to play.Since around the time after Caufield went down, Dach has really broken out. He's been outright dominant in some games and creating things on his own. Tonight, he played like a no.1 center.
