I've met @jaffy27 in person. You 100% right.

He's a slayer.

Pause tho.

Stop being so modest man.
Well since we throwing each other flowers, 417 is a good looking guy too!!!!…..He Oil of Olay everyday trust me….flawless like T.I in his early days…...lol

Plus he’s a f***in cool guy and he’s as smart as he sounds on this Forum!!!!

Yeah but, did you ask him to do his signature move? You know, the Kabana Death Stare he used, to stave off Subban? :sarcasm:
417 has way more respect then that for my partner…..he classy as f***!!

I don't know how Winnipeg can sell that to their fanbase. They gave up Laine for him and he's been really good since last season.
They have to get something for him and every team in the league knows he’s had Habs on the brain since he was in Columbus.

Think how Vanek only got two 2nds because everyone knew he only wanted to go to the Wild. Same deal. Jets will trade him for the best offer they can get but it likely won’t be as much as he’s worth. Jets are not in a good spot so have to do with the best in a bad situation.

The sunk cost fallacy is real but at the same time, it's either try to maximize whatever value you can for the guy or just lose him for nothing.

I mean it is definitely in their prerogative to choose to treat him as their own rental and go for it (and I can see this being the route they ultimately go). All the power to you. But if you don't win a cup and you lose him for nothing, that's the risk you take.

They don't have much of an option of Dubois is forcing his way out.

At that point they get rental value for him which is at best a 1 + prospect/roster player.
They will do what they should not do and what we did for the past 30 years prior to last season. If they can't sign him they'll lose him for nothing. Since they are not in a position to win the cup they should sell him if they can't sign him but they wont have the balls to do it.

They do if theres a chance he walks away for nothing.
Which there is.
My guess is that if this is the best offer they can get is they'll see this year if there's enough to make a run with him for another year and let him walk or just open up additional teams allowing them to talk to him but that's dependent on Dubois being open to going somewhere else and signing long-term, which isn't a given at all considering it was reported other teams were already doubtful of that.

I'm not sure why people keep bringing this up, why does it matter? Has this been confirmed or just speculated and if it's the latter, how did it become gospel?

I'm sure if we were privy to a lot of conversations between GMs and even scouts, we'd find out that teams end up with great players often times by happenstance.

Everyone here would have targeted Cody Glass before Nick Suzuki if they had the opportunity then too, including most in the scouting community.

IF he did indeed ask for Glass and got shut down, MB could have easily said "Ok thanks for your time, goodbye" and never went for Suzuki.

There's enough content to legitimately criticize MB over, but that Suzuki trade is his and it belongs on his list of accomplishments as much as anything else belongs on his list of failures.
Oh they sure did. MB was a moron for not asking for Glass and settling for Suzuki. That was THE sceptic narrative when we first got Suzuki. It's amazing how this is forgotten. The short term memory on this board is always pretty...convenient.

“He’s not signing more then 1 year he’s applied for arbitration which takes him right to FA we needed to recoup some assests.”

Take your pick, Although I see it more like Barron the worst of our 2 firsts and dvorak for Dubois and a 2nd

Suzuki trade was better.

On paper, the Dach-Romanov trade was pretty similar to the Drouin-Sergachev trade Bergevin made. A good young D for a 21-year-old former 3rd overall pick.

Obviously now, it looks like the outcome of the Dach trade will be much better than the Drouin one.

No it wasn't , Come on!

Bergevin traded a legit 35 goals/70 points 1st line winger in his prime for a prospect that took another 3 years before making his mark in the NHL. Although we all like the outcome, it was luck cause no one can exactly predict how a prospect will turn out 3 years from now.

Hugues traded a 13th overall pick which is also a project for a player that step in right away and become a legit 1st line player.
If you prefer to see it as a Romanov trade....then again, Romanov is no Pacioretty at the time of the trade.

There's no luck here when it happens right away and considering that Gorton has an history of going after players that are about to breakout. Bergevin got a player that took 3 years to develop AND we all know Pacioretty nixed a trade with LA first and Suzuki wasn't even his first choice.....We know Hugues wanted Dach, the Romanov trade proved it, he did a backflip to get him and now we know why!

Plus that sweet, sweet contract on top of it!

I don't know, I think his argument has merit. Sure, the actual cost is lower. Romanov doesn't have a high ceiling, but he was a key part of the defense and still is in Long Island. They're getting affordable security in their top 4 for what's likely the next 5-10 years.

Pacioretty was done here and even became unproductive. In fact, he was quickly discarded in Vegas, essentially given away.

What Bergevin managed to acquire was the second most important part of a Stanley Cup run, the teams captain and one of the premiere U25 centers in the league. At times, he looks like the next Datsyuk. In fact, he's likely one of the main reasons why Toffoli brought back so much and why Dach is developing as he is. You rarely get an opportunity to acquire a franchise defining forward like that, much less for a disgruntled player who essentially was replaceable in the playoffs. It might be the best trade this franchise has done since the 90s.
