Player Discussion Kirby Dach: Welcome to Montreal part 2

Right now? They will want our first.

My value on Laf is a late 1st. If he has another 30 point season, a mid 2nd. If he steps up into 60 points they won't trade him.
I’d much rather take a flyer on Lafreniere than go for PLD. I think MSL could turn him around. Great prospect and the Rangers have developed him the way we used to develop guys. He needs a fresh start.

Why in the world would Hughes target Lafreniere? Dach's situation was far different; he had an untapped upside that Laff doesn't appear to have. No reason to even consider this move.
I think the potential is there.

They really have done a bad job of development with him.

I wouldn't be too sure about that. Dubois had a hard time with Torts and he's MSL's mentor. MSL might not be enthused about getting a player that might f***-up the team dynamics.

Dubois has been pushed by the media and his agent. This is the perfect recipe to use the habs to help create a bidding war and raise his salary.

Personally, I would stay away.
I understand that HuGo already made an attempt to trade for him, I don’t see why that would change now.

TBH, personally I wouldn’t give up any assets for Dubois, however would not be opposed to sign him when / if he becomes a UFA.

Someone in TVA last night mentionned that Dach was fitting in well with the team. Joking around and having fun being with people his own age.

I feel this may play a bigger role than we would expect. In Chicago their core was old and I bet the type of leadership was quite different. He came across to me in interviews as a very serious kid before. I bet he felt like young kid who had much to learn. He still do, but he's around people his age now and probably feels more like he's at the "center" of this team's core.
It’s a lot easier to be smiling and laughing when you’re putting up points. It all stems from confidence.

That’s what the old regime never understood.

I'd love Dubois also, I just don't want the team to give up assets to get him.

Free agency has to be the way for him to come to the Habs.
That’s what i meant actually….should’ve specified that.

Had Mesar on wing and Monahab coming back on a fair contract!!

I’m really liking how this team has come together!!

X and Guhle bring that swag of toughness with talent and Harris is lights out man, that guy can defend!!!

Mailloux will
Probably enter the scene in 2 years and Barron will certainly figure it out by then.

With one or two of Beck, Farrell, Roy, Kidney, Mysak set to positively contribute to this team’s success, it’s easy to foresee this team dominating in the not so distant future.

Just need a legit goalie now….I have high hopes for Dobes and some hope for Primeau but we’ll see.

Don’t want Dubois if he wants a premium deal. We need to learn from the mistakes of others.

Look at the Leafs with Tavares. It threw their whole salary structure off. I loved the signing for them at the time but it had hidden implications that I hadn’t considered. In a cap e world it really matters.

If he comes, it must be at a discount.
7m$ per for 6yrs??

I really want Habs to sign Ilya Sorokin in 2024

After that the only piece that's missing is a top pairing D. The forward group is looking to be good for the future with the few additions you talked about and a signing like PLD. The D is pretty much set besides what I mentioned. Hopefully Monty continues to be the backup as he's only 26. The rebuild thanks in part to MBs retool is probably completely done by summer of 2024. Nuts!

Only thing I'd be weary about is that on top of being a top draft pick, he's also quebecer and will basically replace Drouin as the new gold "gars de chez nous" which will put even more pressure on the kid to produce.

I'd like to take a flyer on him, but I think Hughes really needs to make sure that his personality would thrive here under that immense pressure. Would be sad to get Drouin 2.0 for another 5 years.

Do you think stupid Dave Poulin will stop nitpicking on Dach now or will he still find a reason until his last name is spelled Dách ? God I can't stand that loser when he's calling a game he adds nothing. TSN2 needs a new team

Is that simply a rumor from the same media crowd who wants him or something Hughes said?
It is based solely on rumours, I wouldn’t expect Hughes to discuss a player that belongs to another team. I have no reason to doubt the rumours, it was widely reported.

You could always sign him for three like we did with Dach on a cheap contract.

But your point is well taken.

There is zero evidence of any trade offer. This is 100% media/fan created nonsense that somehow progresses from speculation to rumour without any evidence to support such an escalation.

This is why I bark at unsupported comments on these boards because they eventually grow like a cancer if left unchecked and become truisms/myths that are propagated ad nauseam and make intelligent discourse nearly impossible.

I understand the reasoning for the speculation as there is a logical path to said speculation but we need to leave it as just that until there is evidence to suggest otherwise.

The pass Dach made on the Hoffman goal is actually insane.

Was actually initially pissed cause I thought he missed an opportunity to shoot and was gonna circle the net but he feathered that over to Hoffman at the last possible second.

Loved this trade from the moment it was announced.

Drouin was played (unfairly) as the first line center for a year, he had significant injuries here, and he had demonstrated character issues beforehand. Drouin also came into a loser situation, as Markov abs Radulov had just left.

The same would need not happen with Lafreniere.

Not only is Dach not being carried by his linemates, he is driving play. Guy has like 5 first assists and an unassisted goal on that line. Obviously this streak isn't sustainable but jesus he is a player, living up to his pedigree. Remember, this is the player he was supposed to be, so not exactly crazy he is playing at this level.

Apologies to the fella's / scouts here that weren't impressed with his game. Wrong again boys, but what else is new. When he goes cold you guys can roll back in here, I picture the next 5 years being a few of you trying to support your original position ala Danault (on pace for 60 points fwiw).

MSL coaching Laf could really help him unlock his potential....or he could just become a solid middle sixer. Either way, I think Laf in MTL would be a improvement for the player, but it's hard to tell how much of an improvement it would be. If the price is low, then I don't think it's a bad deal even if Laf doesn't end up being a top line player.

So nice to see Dach continue to be a source of offense and isn't just a passenger on the Suzuki line. What a player

All 3 kids on that line, bring something special each and every shift....all 3 are special players. Dach and Suzuki are great playmakers, and CC just scores!
New management.....no worries...............old management, centres are not available.

Can't believe Kirby lol, so happy for him
So happy for us :D

Thought for sure he passed that back to Nick tho too bad lol , and he was THIS close to assisting on the Andy goal too

It makes 0 sense his career high in assists is 17 lol he's going to BLOW by that mark this year, shit give it a couple more games even

Legitimately possible that entire line ends the season with 65-70+pts each.

Insane.

If Laf is cheap sure take a flyer on him but MSL isn't a miracle worker so I wouldn't count on magic happening,. ForPLD if he's available for a reasonable deal and we continue to play well I don't see how we pass on that, he solidifies so much of our roster.

Yeah, I don’t think he can keep this pace up but it’s great for his confidence. That means everything at this stage.

I don’t think it takes a miracle worker to bring a number one pick back to life. He was a hyped prospect and the Rangers have stifled him.

If he’d be willing to do a three year cheap deal like Dach did? Let’s go!
