Player Discussion Kirby Dach: Welcome to Montreal part 2

Bergevin got us Nick Suzuki for Max Pacioretty. Nothing Hughes has done so far is even remotely close in impact to that move.

I don't care that they wanted somebody else, this is the recorded trade that happened.

The Kirby Dach trade was a smart gamble, and I'm impressed at how well it's looking now. I was really 50-50 on Dach fulfilling his potential. But it's going in that direction now.

Still, Suzuki remains King.
There's a record of Bergevin's trade history and it's not that good. If you look it up he barely won 50% of the time, and when he won a trade he would blunder it with a stupid move.

I really just hope he maintains some consistency and doesn't fall off a cliff, feels like it happens to so many of our players. Imagine if we made a trade for Vilardi too when Kings seemed to have given up on him...

The assists will probably slow down when Suz stop scoring on 27% of his shots. But i don't think he will "fall off a cliff"

Irrelevant trades are irrelevant.

Getting Nick Suzuki, the best #1 center this club has had since Vincent Damphousse (and he may turn out better), overpowers any minuscule wins or losses in the myriad of other trades the Maestro did.

Losing Sergachev for Drouin, a gamble 50% of the people agreed with at the time, is not really important. Sergachev is good but overrated. I wouldn't trade Guhle for him, for example. Not by a long shot.

So the long-term damage it did to the club is not that bad. Meanwhile getting Suzuki illuminates the sky for the next 15 years.

I'm stealing that lol

Wow.

Just wow. Not just the filthy passes, but the play to get up after the borderline hit by Petterson to screen Jarry on Caufield's goal and throw Petterson do the ice in so doing showed the level of f**k you in his game, too.

About time we had a #3OA work out for us ;-)

And kudos to whichever HFHabs colleague coined "Curvy Duck". Love it.

Dach looks kind of slim honestly. If he gets bigger, I think he might become even scarier out there in terms of throwing people around.

Our bank of Dach nicknames is growing.

Since he’s a winger these days rather than a center, introducing …

With how good Dach has been, it makes you wonder if we will try and go for Laffy too. Guy can be way better than what he has shown.
I rather go for Dubois.

Dubois is going to cost us 8 million a year but he's going to push us maybe 5 spots up the overal standings.

Both would be nice too but the Rangers are too invested in him, for now.

Indeed, another reason to keep Dach at wing is that Hughes has to figure out which of Monahan and Dvorak to keep or trades.
Monahan is playing well but let's not forget his injury history.

I'd trade him and tell him the door is open for him. Maybe 5x5, but if he has a decent year, he will get more from others.

It would be incredible although I don’t know what asset we would have to give up?
Right now? They will want our first.

My value on Laf is a late 1st. If he has another 30 point season, a mid 2nd. If he steps up into 60 points they won't trade him.

I do think management went into the deal acquiring a diamond in the rough center that they could develop into a full fledged top 6C.

However, if the player continues to be productive as a winger, then it’s a no brainer. I believe that MSL said something on tonight’s presser about making it easier on Dach now since he doesn’t have to shoulder as many responsibilities. Whatever works for Dach to be at his best.

Hughes can certainly pivot and look for his top 6C elsewhere.
Dubois :naughty:

On the surface a top 9 of these nine going forward would be nice.

Caufield-Suzuki-Dach
Slaf-Dubois-Mesar
Anderson-Monohan-Gallagher

There’s talent in there and speed, size, some fight, toughness, experience, youth.

Things are shaping up…..dunno if we can finish bottom 5 this year, but I’ll easily trade that in for entertainment like I saw last night and deep playoff runs!!

Yager or Fantilli would aure look good in that mix though :D

I’m truly at that Blue pill/Red pill moment

There were very few of us that got excited when the trade was announced.

Very happy to see now that more people are getting behind Dach and are starting to see his potential.
.the skills were always apparent. But some guys have skills but can never put it together to produce. We've seen that with Drouin and Armia.

Really glad Dach can use his skills to br effective. He has a lot of talent.

I can't believe how good Dach looks. He won't keep up this pace, but 50ish points is now a very reasonable expectation, which would be freakin solid.

And Beck, Farrell and Heineman may push for Monahan, Gallagher and Anderson's spots in the top 9.

I liked it from the get go and I’m a huge Romanov fan!!

Question was always that wrist but it would seem like that wrist is well healed and Hughes overwhelmingly fleeced the Hawks.

Hawks drafted 5’10 Nazar with the pick we acquired ….like we have Mesar, Beck, Farrell, Kidney, Roy in that Nazar mole who are just if not more talented then Frank.

Great trade!!!

Confidence begets more confidence. Our young guys have it in such a crucial part of their career. These early games this season is laying the ground work for the next 10 years of their career. Kirbys play along with the rest can't be understated. This is the best possible scenario for our team.

Bedard would have been great but not at the cost of the rest of these guys.

Why in the world would Hughes target Lafreniere? Dach's situation was far different; he had an untapped upside that Laff doesn't appear to have. No reason to even consider this move.
I’m targeting Dubois. I love his game, talent and size and believe his attributes would complement well our little chickens who are about to blow the door down to the NHL!!!
