It’s way too early to know for sure where he ends up but management does care. They went into the deal acquiring a center. It changes the whole outlook of who is projected to be the medium to long term center behind Suzuki. I’m not sure who that is if Dach becomes a full time winger.

Barring any trade for a legit 2C or us getting lucky and draft a future impact 1C/2C in 2023, I think medium term it’ll be Dvorak but longer-term, perhaps as soon as 2024-2025, It would be Beck. I think Beck will make the team next year, though not as a top-6 center.

I like the idea of Dach as a 1b center to Suzuki but I like the idea more of he, CC and Zuks tearing things up as well.

You want to waive NHL forwards in order to make room for a 23-year old minor leaguer who hasn't come anywhere close to a point a game in the AHL?

Why on earth would you do that?
If it was up to me,I'd waive more than a few vets and hope some other teams picks them up and create cap space. With money and openings, can assess other players more accurately in the proper environment with superior players and see what they have.

I don't know what he said about Dach, but overall I still think Bouchard is a very good coach. Probably has his ego inflated a bit too much but that's fine.

The problem with a guy like Bouchard is the same problem with guys like Therrien or Julien or Martin; they'll always reward hard work and effort over talent. Which is perfect, for bottom 6 Fs and 5-6th Ds. For your highly skilled players, you just gotta let them play.

which is why I'm not sure about him as HC in the NHL, but I'd take him back in the AHL (I know nothing about Groulx, nothing against him at this point).
Generally, the bottom 6 help you not lose games while the top six help you win games.

listening to Joel Bouchard talk about Dach and I'm so happy that guy isn't in the organization anymore.

The kind of coach who fixates on an idea about a player and refuses to come off it despite visual evidence that he's wrong.
Maxim Lapierre is also hard on him for a reason I don't understand and I usually like what he has to say. It's like they're watching a completely different player, weird.
The f*** is wrong with these guys? What more can you possibly want given the situation?

You guys make me laugh. Already writing him off as a center and worrying about drafting, acquiring or pencilling beck in.

Chill dudes. Dach is playing great hockey right now. Love his size and vision. Good package no reason why he can't take this to the center of the ice

I have a completely unsubstantiated theory that parts of the media take issue with the fact that the Dach trade is looking far better than the last time Montreal traded a highly regarded D prospect for a 3rd overall pick who plays center and wing.

Its entirely based on the fact that I haven't really consumed any French language Habs coverage in a while and would have no idea anybody had an issue with Dach if it weren't for information relayed on these boards.

The biggest issue I see with Dach is on the boards. He tries to use his reach to finesse pucks out or drag it out with very low urgency. It's especially noticeable when he's trying to clear the zone but I don't know how that would constitute receiving that much hate.

Important to note that Sergachev was a much much much better prospect than Romanov. Sergachev should have landed 100% a solid first line player. Romanov i like him but usually you don't get solid first line player with just a Romanov like prospect so even if Dach develop as a middle six player it's still an okay trade. I think lot of our fans undervalue how good of a prospect Sergachev was. He was at the top of the defensive prospects in the league.

He's just been on his case the entire season, has fixated on proving his point about him. It's easy to isolate plays to confirm your bias while ignoring everything that contradicts him.

Today he's was essentially saying he needs stripped down and rebuilt, I don't know why, but it seems like some member ms have designated Dach as the whipping boy.

I saw a lot of people doing that early on with Dach and Slaf this season. I criticized both and got crucified for it, but its pretty much a fact that they were playing badly. Patience is one thing, lying to yourself and saying hes playing good regardless of struggles is another.

He said things that werent wrong. All things I said too, and now he started being confident and doing them and boom, Kirbys looking like a top liner.

Sometimes, most of the time, its not personal when you criticize a player, its just how it is.

The 13th OV pick was a bigger part of the package than Romanov AINEC

Nah, it’s more moronic, it’s “he needs to hit more he’s 6’4”, he has to “move his feet” and other dumb statements.

Obviously Dach isn’t perfect and could improve some areas of his play, I think they just don’t know what to say or rather then don’t understand / agree with what MSL is doing but it seems to be working so they’re confused.

He does need to engage his feet more and get a bit more physical in puck battles, etc. but I also don't think he's "strong" yet.. but he is more than willing to mix it up physically with people, so it's not like he's timid.

I find he's doing a decent job he seals the boards well and has a very good stick obviously. We need him for his talent period. No one tried to turn Mario into a grinder. The comparisons being size and not overall talent. Dach will create his own space by burning players.

He's gonna unlock so much more potential when his feet are moving constantly and he gets his big reach on top of players faster.

The upside is immense and we are only seeing him scratching the surface here. Every once in awhile he shows how he can work his sweet hands with really good feet. When that becomes the norm? Watch the f*** out.

What do you assess to be Dach 's upside?

I agree his best move last game was actually a pass reception in his feet as he's avoiding the D while gaining the zone on his edges. The crowd buzzed on that play.

I definitely believe they can be that petty for sure.

The main issue with Dach in regard to the media is his demeanor. He is not a fun, extraverted guy like Slafkovsky, Caufield, or Kotkaniemi (yeah, the media liked him for a long time for his big smile). Dach gives the vibe that he does not want to talk to you, or be your friend. For the insecure french media types, that's the kiss of death.
