Player Discussion Kirby Dach: Welcome to Montreal part 2

We get the point that we will need a 2C if Dach stays at 1RW.

But pretend the guy in Winnipeg's name is Peter Wood so that you don't get over-invested in one player.

There are many options. Five months ago, did you think we could turn Romanov into the precise first-line player we seem to have acquired? Dach wasn't on anyone's radar. In fact, all the talk was focused on PLD even then, and lo and behold there was another option.

Calmons-nous.
Peter Wood will be a game changer for us.

Adding a high end 2C allows our top line to stay intact and a second line made up of Anderson-PLD-??? to be a one-two punch of offense.

It's not just Woods himself but the add-on effect of adding a high end talent.

I dare say that his addition is worth 5 steps up the league standings.

It's early to tell, but who cares really if he's a winger? We need those anyway and he seems to be very good on the wing.
It’s way too early to know for sure where he ends up but management does care. They went into the deal acquiring a center. It changes the whole outlook of who is projected to be the medium to long term center behind Suzuki. I’m not sure who that is if Dach becomes a full time winger.

listening to Joel Bouchard talk about Dach and I'm so happy that guy isn't in the organization anymore.

The kind of coach who fixates on an idea about a player and refuses to come off it despite visual evidence that he's wrong.
do you mind explaining what he said?

what was he saying about him that you consider wrong ?

Cut from the same cloth as Therrien.
I think some people just have a hard time understanding some coaches are just meant to be coaching in juniors vs pros. I think guys like Therrien, Bouchard, can excel at the junior level. Young kids need to learn basics of becoming pro and discipline. Those types of coaches are good for that. At the pro level, I'm not convinced.

He's just been on his case the entire season, has fixated on proving his point about him. It's easy to isolate plays to confirm your bias while ignoring everything that contradicts him.

Today he's was essentially saying he needs stripped down and rebuilt, I don't know why, but it seems like some member ms have designated Dach as the whipping boy.

Maxim Lapierre is also hard on him for a reason I don't understand and I usually like what he has to say. It's like they're watching a completely different player, weird.

I think Therrien should be nowhere near anyone in terms of coaching. He’s absolute trash.

I called out Lapierre on twitter about this not long ago and he said i didn’t understand and blocked me lol.
Wow that's disappointing to hear... I hope he was just drunk after a Poche Bleue podcast cause that's a lame attitude to have when someone disagrees with your very questionable stance on a young skilled player.

There is no doctrine but there is a simple question...will we buy or sell veteran assets at TDL? That basically tells you if you are going for it or rebuilding.
Oversimplification.

We have like 16 "NHL" forwards and no space under the cap. Even if they thought had a chance to make the playoffs, no way they'd add a vet.

Slafkovski - Dubois - Anderson

Next season’s 2nd line

🤩

If the team were willing to split the Suzxuki-Caufield duo, this might be interesting......

Caufield-Monahan-Dach
Slafkovsky-Suzuki-Anderson

When three of these six players were not here last year, it sure makes for more interesting possibilties.
Man, we have 3 potential top 6 centers, on top of Dvorak, and potentially Dubois wanting to play for us...

and we had to suffer through 10 years of "Trades are hard, centers aren't available, this isn't playstatation... you can't understand, you don't know everything..."
Plus all the years before that with only Koivu and/or Plekanec and/of Gomez and/or Desharnais at center...

Man, we've suffered. For no reason. Thank you HuGo.

I thought he was our savior man... it hurts. Was so happy the day Bouchard and Ducharme came in.

I don't know what he said about Dach, but overall I still think Bouchard is a very good coach. Probably has his ego inflated a bit too much but that's fine.

The problem with a guy like Bouchard is the same problem with guys like Therrien or Julien or Martin; they'll always reward hard work and effort over talent. Which is perfect, for bottom 6 Fs and 5-6th Ds. For your highly skilled players, you just gotta let them play.

which is why I'm not sure about him as HC in the NHL, but I'd take him back in the AHL (I know nothing about Groulx, nothing against him at this point).

Like Caufield, I want to see him produce without Suzuki. It's good to see his confidence back though. Even if he ends up a RW, can't really hate if he's a monster playmaking RW (like a slower Wheeler).

True, I would not do that, but I was responding to @Wats saying he wanted to see Caufield produce without Suzuki. In my mind the only way is if he still had Dach. Who is our next best playmaker? Dach. And who would be the best 3rd guy on that line? I think it's Monahan over Anderson, Slaf or Dvorak.

But the premise is indeed something I would not do, splitting Cole and Suzi.

To be fair, I know that Suzuki was acquired in an MB trade. Ironically, it happened because MB did not want to pay his captain a decent salary upon expiry of his very team friendly deal. Then, two years later, he sobbed real tears at a press conference announcing his monster extension for Gallagher. Then, in the months to follow the Gallagher commitment, MB pulled another stubborn cheapskate move with Danault.

Danault and 30 goal Gallagher would have collectively fetched more than Patches did, so even when MB was good, his judgment was suspect. Furthermore, had he got Cody Glass instead of Suzuki for Patches, like it seems he wanted to, and lost Danault for nothing while keeping Gallagher, oh my Gawd there would be no one around here to say one nice word about the buffoon.

Being GM was real, real hard.
