I would take PLD in a minute. I get that Dach was acquired to become our 2C but given his past, i would keep him where he is thriving. Not saying that he can't produce with anyone but Suzuki and CC however the Hawks thrashed his confidence. He is only now starting to show his potential and rebuild his confidence. It wouldn't be the first time that a C turned into a W.

I get the feeling that Dach prefers playing center.

I could see something like this next season, barring trades and free agent signings:

Caufield - Suzuki - Mesar
Slaf - Dach - Anderson
Hoffman - Dvorak - Gallagher
Heineman - Beck - Evans
/ Armia

- UFAs walk
- Mesar, Beck, Heineman make it. They’re close.
- Dach gets back to the style of game he played in the 2020 playoffs.

That feeling Dach has is going to go away pretty quick when he plays at a PPG on the wing with the top line. As a business decision...sticking with Cole and Suzuki for as long as possible until his next contract is the best thing he could for himself.

With the Anderson - Suzuki - Caufield line, and now the Caufield - Suzuki - Dach line, I think both were the first times the Habs ever had a line with three right-handed forwards. Still feels odd to me, yet we've had many trios with only left-handed players.

Agreed. But every team needs an Anderson.
Oh that wasn't meant as a slight, i'm a big Josh Anderson fan.

In fact, I think he'd be an ideal winger for a guy like Dach if he was playing center.

It's just more that he, Anderson, his strengths don't really work with Suzuki/Caufield other than him being fast and having size.

As we can see with Dach, he brings the size, speed and has more relatable skills to play with them. They need someone a bit more cerebral and that's why, IMO, Dach fits so well with them.

It's been so long since we have had real talented players.................muckers, grinders, and Karacter during the 10 Rinse and Repeat Era....
Refreshing! a shame though that Drouin,Hoffman,Dadinov have lost their ''skill'' otherwise it would be a pretty deep team.

Best case scenario is Dach has a great year, has his confidence restored and centers our 2nd line. Slaf develops well and moves to the first. All of a sudden we have two killer lines down the road.

We don’t need PLD. I’d much rather we continue to develop our own prospects and add more along the way.
Dach could be a swing guy like Malkin, either centering a seccond "first line", or loading up with the top guns.

The mix and match can come later but the aim is to have 6 top forwards, of which 4 are real first liners.

Suzuki
Caufield
Dach
Slafkovsky

Two more needed either by draft, development of Mesar, or UFA or trade. I think Beck is more a 3C.

The vets.........................nothing much to say....\Hoff has found the net, but right now the Drouin Dad combo can't score in a soccer net............saw that last night with JD, open net gone bad.

That was so bad...

I know Dadonov is not very popular around here but he's got more to offer than Drouin IMO.

Next game i'd like to see Dadonov-Monahan-Anderson as the 2nd/3rd line.

Dadonov should have finished with at least a goal last night, was unlucky.

It's sad in a way that their skills diminished so suddenly.

I was hoping that the team would have been comprised of ''worthy'' players and some vets waived, Would have much preferred to see the likes of Ylonen,Heinemen get a look along with Slafkovsky and I know Heinemen is injured.

You really think Dach will want to play wing for 4 years for contract purpose?

I really hope not cause that's somewhat of an opportunistic mindset rather than a professionnal one who has confidence in his means and wants to show the world he can be one of the best playing C.

If I'm the Habs, I want to build my team with warriors, not with players who want it easy to cash in in 4 years.

He took this contract because the team is in a rebuilt (gives them 4 years instead of 2 or 3) and said he didn’t care about the money and wants to help the team win. So, no he doesn’t want it easy to cash in.

Playing on the wing now is probably better for his development than centering scrubs like Hoffman, but in the long term I hope that Dach is a center.

He is a center, just Habs don't have the players to compliment him. Perhaps Heinemen,Misar, Ylonen or Slaf down the road.

If he's playing wing with Suzuki and Caufield and racking up points then he wont give a ****, even if his preference is center.

He'll probably be back at center at some point this season, its just that he's done too good of a job of elevating Caufield and Suzuki.

He'll have to settle for compliments from his coaches and fans.

Like Caufield, I want to see him produce without Suzuki. It's good to see his confidence back though. Even if he ends up a RW, can't really hate if he's a monster playmaking RW (like a slower Wheeler).

I love good playmaking wingers like Wheeler, Radulov, etc... we've had a plethora of shooters a and diggers for a while now. Dach I think will be a very useful player for a long time - and will only get better.

But right now he's useful as a complementary player. He can play well with other offensive players, but can't drive a line on his own. Even if he stays that way, I think we'll have enough other offensive players under Hughes and Gorton for him to be useful.

I will let Dach play with Suzuki and Caufield. Now that you already have good top line, it's time to prepare the second line. I will go hard after PLD. He would be a perfect center for Salf and Mesar. You want to get PLD as soon as possible. Another team may get PLD before us and he may not get to free agency.

Won't argue with that. I was answering about the fact he will want to play wing to get a better contract in 4 years.

Wasn't implying he's the opportunist kind. I was referring to waitin425 who was saying that he could prefer to play wing for the next 4 years for contract purpose.

I don't want players like that on my team. That's a mercenary mindset. Players like that tend to cheat, they don't progress as much as the « warrior » type... you don't want to build a team around it. I hope and I don't think Dach is one of those.
