What a stupid way to look at this.
I mean it’s exactly the right way to look at it. Same with the Devils and Hughes. Guy got injured not even in a tournament game, but a pre-tournament game. This is the risk taken when you participate. This is why teams are so scared of letting a player play in these events. Yes, there’s a risk of getting hurt in practice or just in your day-to-day life, but it’s far less than a game environment. Yes, it means a lot to the player and the experience et al. but it’s a business decision that hurt Chicago. I really hope he doesn’t miss major time in the games that actually count.

Then all teams should tell their CHL prospects, Euro prospects, NCAA prospects and AHL prospects to sit out all games and just wrap themselves in bubble wrap until the team suits them up for real NHL games.

Our chances for Gold stay the same. Too many really good players. It like having a thick one inch of icing on a cupcake, and an 1/8th of an inch is licked off by your dog. Sure, you’re pissed at first, but the cupcake still has lots of icing left, and will taste great.
So Canada's roster now has a layer of dog saliva (and molecules of whatever it just licked) on it?

They could make the decision for NHL teams to loan players a bit easier if the tournament only allowed junior players.

I've never quite understood how a player like Dach - who has not played a junior game since the spring of 2019 and since has played a full NHL season - is eligible for the WJC.

Yes, I get that he's only 19 so that makes him eligible and it wouldn't affect the Rangers decision on Lafreniere as he is not only under 20 but hasn't played in the NHL yet, but this tournament should at least be for players that are still playing junior?

What about Russian players? Do we not allow KHL players by that logic? I mean it’s pretty clearly the 2nd best pro league in the world (yes, it’s substantially better than the AHL).

I understand it’s a proposal with good intentions, but the practicality of it doesn’t make sense.

This is a smallest relative blow for Canada if some other team would lose same level of player. Canada just will promote another 1st round pick to 1st line and take another 1st round pick from pressbox to replace the promoted 1st round pick.

Not all 1st rounders are equal however, he was our top forward, any team feels that, especially a team that is full of players that haven't played much.

But it is what it is, they will just have to overcome it.

As dumb as this pov is, I do wonder why KHL teams release their players so easily. Good for us.

While this is generally true, Dach was pretty much the consensus best player at this tournament. The boys will have to rally around this though, he’s still a big loss but Canada should be able to absorb a loss of a player of his caliber better than the other countries.

Or SHL players or any players in an other pro league. You’re right, anything beyond an age requirement isn’t a practical idea. NHL teams are businesses that can make decisions involving their own players rather than need rules that pass the buck to another organization anyway.

feel really sorry for the kid he just wanted to live his dream of playing the world juinors and gets injured in a pointless warm up game :(.. hopefully gets to rep canada at the world championships some year soon .

We can only hope, it usually does for our teams.

Sometimes we need a slap in the face to remind us things don’t just come easily and are an automatic given. Other teams are proud hockey nations with good players as well.

This attitude we sometimes have that our teams are untouchable is demonstrably false, but the upshot is Canadians usually pull together and come out on top when facing adversity. It’s part of our cultural fabric.

That's an attitude I lost a long time ago, I mean a really long time ago.

The simple answer is that this tournament isn’t for kids playing junior, it’s for any players under the age of 20.

Other nations don’t have the same junior system. Brad Lambert is playing pro at 16 for goodness sake. Is he not eligible?
