That's one of those games where there are some positives but despite the win a whole bunch of negatives... Thibodeau I thought was awful, tons of selfish shots and attempted moves... I also really haven't been impressed by McNamara - he's more physically engaged than Outwater but there's not much offense there. Ludwinski/Battaglia continue to drive the offense, I'll be curious to see what happens the rest of the year because I'd think Ludwinski is a lock for Rockford, which means ideally he's traded to a team making a run for players/assets they can use for a run next year because realistically I don't see this team making a deep run.

The 1st and 3rd lines I thought were really good, they mostly played in Windsor’s end with both lines having the potential to score four or so goals. The second line was in trouble all night. Horrendous one arm give away by Thibideau to give up a goal. I didn’t see Miedema in the third, don’t think he was hurt so I assume he was benched, his effort in the last several games has been extremely low, I haven’t seen many puck battles won, Hemstrom to his credit at least competes.

This is what I like about Mann. Under Caputi if the 3rd or 4th line made a mistake they wouldn’t see the ice again. 1st and 2nd line guys wouldn’t lose a shift no matter how bad their effort was, Mann appears to be holding them all accountable and that can only mean the whole team grows.

ITs probably the first time Thibideau and Miedema have ever been benched in the OHL.

I agree.
A big positive is 6 goals and offence was seemingly clicking, a big negative is defence. 4 goals given up and 36 shots I believe is not ideal. Lots of room for improvement there.

im glad miedema was benched he had such an amazing start to the season and since he’s been very mediocre.

If you told me last year Jacob Battaglia would have more points than Ethan miedema at this point in the year I would think you’re crazy. Props to battaglia- miedema needs to find some level of consistency.

I agree about the defensive end is a work in progress but lets take a look at the 4 goals last night.
Goal 1 a penalty shot, Budnick gets caught flat footed so okay maybe blame the dman for that. Goal 2 Thibedeou gets stripped trying to stick handle 10 feet in front of his net. Cannot blame the d structure for that. Goal 3 a power play goal that Vaccari should have gloved the penalty kill set up was good just Greentree made a nice shot. Goal 4 puck was stripped at the offensive blue line for a breakaway, again nothing to do with d structure so while they did run around at times to say the d zone play was responsible for 4 goals is not right in this game. As an aside I have always not liked a short pass along the offensive blue line or players standing side by side on that blueline because if the pass or players being to close, the chances for a quick breakaway going the other way is magnified.

Always room for improvement. They weren’t bad but they can definitely work on that stuff. Long season anyways I’m sure they’ll tighten up on it.

It would be nice to see them go on a 5 or 6 game winning streak soon.
I was just thinking that. they’re still hovering round around 0.500 unfortunately

Also in other news- Ethan Weir has 18pts In 11 GOJHL games this year. Looks like the call ups to the fronts are working their magic. Hoping he skyrockets this year and is a big piece of the team next year.

Xander Velliaris only has 5 pts in 20 games including 1 point in the last 10. Seems to be struggling hopefully he figures it out as he has a lot of good qualities for an ohl defenceman

Cameron Bergeron with 5 pts in 10 chl games. Big jump in pts/gm since last season.

Tommy Karmiris with 14pts in 21 games in the Ojhl. Pretty solid production there. I’m sure atleast 2 of these guys will be on our team for next season

plus our #1 draft pick which I suspect will be a d man and we go with an 05 import forward to fill out our offence for next year

Fronts have been pretty crappy the last 4 games. 1-3 only winning against Windsor.
2 losses to brantford in that time.

Also I just thought I should point this out. Miedema looked to be benched for a little bit there in the third period. When there was an extra attacker out there I don’t believe he played at all. He’s someone who seriously needs to step it up. Great kid and great shot but needs to use it more.

7Pts in his last 18 games after 8pts in his first 5.

Maybe this is just a .500 hockey club.

They haven’t looked the same since trading outwater, Schneider, trading for McNamara and putting Sanvido as an assistant coach

Still though with Mann according to the tv today they are 8 and 5 for a 0.615 win percentage. If they kept that up the whole year they would be a 42 win club (erasing the awful start with Caputi)

What’s the odds frasca is back for Wednesday (school day game) or Friday (teddy bear toss)?

Fun fact the last 2 teddy bear toss goals are both scored by a frasca. Jordan frasca 2 years ago and Gabriel frasca last year. Would be really funny for that trend to continue

Frasca should be back Friday.

They have also played the last 3 games 11F 7D - which can really mess things up- especially the D who absolutely hate rotating 7

Wasn't able to watch but I see Cavallin had a "Prior to or at puck drop" fight - unless something else happened I would assume that carries an automatic two game suspension?

Hopefully Hopkins is back Friday so with the prospective Frasca return maybe they'll be able to go back to 12/6.

I really like 7 D actually. The 12th F is rarely needed. You can interchange two in certain situations, or simply sit one if not playing up to expectations. Sometimes the teams ends up with 2-3 D in the penalty box.

Been waiting for a bit to post to see how things play out with the coaching changes. I truly think that this was one of the best moves in years, to get Mann. I think you will see a methodical process of getting the team and individual players to where they need to be. I'm positive that he will implement accountability. Snidbits of it have shown over the last few games and I believe and I think you will see more of it as we get bodies back. Hard to bench or sit players when you need a full line up. Also, he is smart enough tok now that he could have lost the room early if he came in and started scratching and sitting kids immediately. Getting Frasca and Hopkins back and who knows what the deal is with Savard will push people out of the line up and create internal battles for ice. That's a good thing but some of these guys need to start showing there worth now! Coach is a smart Mann, you can sense it in his interviews. Ludwinksi goes from wanting out and playing like he didn't want to be here under Caputi, to being the actual player and leader he can be under a respected coach. That's been one of the most noticeable improvements.

Now for the accountability...

Where is Miedema? It's mind boggling that an NHL drafted player with that size and skill can go out there shift after shift and not move his feet or show any type of effort. You would have thought that playing the team that traded you for Shane Wright would get you fired up. But apparently not. Watching a game from the stands might?

The selfish play from Thibodeua has to stop! He is like the best player on a Novice team that never passes the puck. Turns everything into a 1 on 1, even on PPs. That giveaway in front of our net the other night was him trying to pass the puck to himself!

We need these guys going if we want to have any type of success. I'm sure Mann will get it out of them one way or another

Cavallin and the Bulldog player had been hacking and slashing each other for a few faceoffs -- apparently one or both decided it's time to drop the gloves so as soon as the puck was dropped they skated away from faceoff and both dropped the gloves. I haven't seen anything about the suspension but "staged" fighting has been frowned upon. Looking at both players though, neither are heavy penalty guys nor have they had many fights in their short OHL careers but automatic is automatic. For what its worth, Cavallin "won"

Speak to any Dman and they will say they can't stand it.
Very true. And I thought the stability of the D pairings had been going well the last little bit. I think the only reason they have dressed 7 D the last few games was because there they didn't have enough healthy forwards to dress 12.

They were smart about it. They waited until after the puck hits the ice. Had they fought before the puck drop - ejections and suspensions would have ensued.
