Thank God this will be the end of this soap opera.

can you say B O N N I E
I think it is wrong that Sudbury has not traded Jakub Chromiak yet. They have made him sit for almost two weeks and it appears it may be over two weeks before there is resolution to the situation. How is that helping a players development? Is it no one is interested in him? Are the Wolves asking for too much for him? If it is the later Sudbury needed to take the best offer given within a short timeframe and trade him within days not weeks.

Many people blame Bonnie Lindros for railroading executives on behalf of Eric in his Jr days i.e not signing with the Soo instead demanding he be traded to Oshawa or something along those lines.
I understand, i'm old enough to remember that. It was my first year as a season ticket holder, first year we were the frontenacs, but what is it regarding now?

Other teams that Chromiak can be traded to need to figure out their import situations as well. That's what the holdup is. There are import players that may be coming over after christmas/WJC and teams are trying to get clarity before they make a move. There are also some teams debating dropping their current import players for an obvious upgrade in Chromiak but don't want to ruin relationships and never get a import player again. I'm betting by Friday he'll probably be with an Eastern Division team for a low return

What would you consider a "low return" ? 5th round pick?

2nd 4th and 6th, pricier than I expected given the lack of teams with an import position but I wonder if there was a bidding war

I assume there probably was. But that second I don’t think they’ll be too worried about. They should be decent that year I think the next 2 they’ll be great. 2026 stink it up and then 2027 be a fairly good team middle of the pack.

Regardless if they go for it this year and next. 2026 they’ll trade away remaining pieces and get it all back from this trade

Fronts are getting a very good, and underrated d-man IMO. He's improved tremendously this year, but from day one his best skill has been his ability to see the ice and make smart plays under pressure.
Excellent! He can teach budnick a thing or two LOL

Very happy with the trade I was expecting to trade a younger player for him maybe a young forward swap for their young d but I’m glad we kept it together. Good trade. I talked to a Sudbury fan and he thinks it will be our second best d man after burns. So huge piece because he will only get better for next year too when they really go for it

If I had to guess the pairings going forward will be

Burns-Chromiak
Budnick-Holmes
McGowan-Uens

Though I think Budnick will really need to step it up to keep his spot.

I assume Bergeron and/or Williamson will be sent down? No point rolling with 9D.

It’s a ‘27-2nd, it will be replaced

I agree. These should be the lines. Might change the bottom 4 around but I think those are the players.

As much as I’d like Williamson to be sent down. They did that with him last year it would probably make more sense to send Bergeron down thinking about that. But yes one of them will be let go or sent down.

Bergeron has been playing in JR A for a couple of weeks - so Schneider and Williamson are now the likely extra d

Didn’t know that thought they were just sitting him like Williamson most games. Schneider was a full time player on the team last year would definitely make sense for Williamson to get sent down. Or if they wanted to keep Williamson probably put Schneider on waivers or trade him.

Had no idea about Bergeron wow. He looked pretty good in the times I watched him.

I like this move particularly bc we need another RD. However, let's please hold off on annointing this kid as the saviour and a top 2 d man until we see how things play out. The kid has 67 career games to this point and 1assist this year and was being sat until this trade. Was his brother great for us? Absolutely. But this kid still has to prove himself and earn his keep. If Sudbury is in go for it mode this year and chose to make him available that says a lot. Yes Sudbury had import decisions to make which leads me to this.....

STOP DRAFTING IMPORTS UNLESS YOU ARE 100% CERTAIN THEY WILL COME. IT MAKES NO SENSE!

I also wonder if this will lead to another move or two. I can't see keeping 9 D around. I hope this move lights a fire under guys like Budnick and Burns and gets them moving in fear of losing time, but again I don't think this kid automatically gets top minutes.

Forgot to add...

I still don't like Budnick and Holmes paired together. I would split them up.

He has 1 assist because of how stacked Sudburys defence is this year he was barely playing compared to the year before.

Also he was sitting so he wouldn’t get injured decreasing his trade value as it was obvious they were trading him.

They got one of the best forwards in the league probably with Dvorsky, and a good goalie in Vondras. It was obvious from the get go Chromiak would be the odd man out.

One thing to add though is their goalie and dvorsky won’t be in the league for more than this year. Chromiak will be here this year as a big piece of our D and he will be returning next year which is huge. That’s also why we had to give up a second round pick.

Also about the imports. I’m pretty sure all the imports kingston has drafted in the last 5 years has come over but I could be wrong. They never have problems with that. Even Martin Chromiak Came over when it wasn’t obvious he would.

Pieniniemi could still come over but it’s unlikely. Never say never though in Jr Hockey.

Nobody ever thought dvorsky would come to Sudbury and there he is.

If Pieniniemi came over it would lead to us trading either hemstrom or pieniniemi.

Anyways it’s a long shot but is possible. Would be good for the fronts though as they’d probably get a fairly good package or some picks for either of them if they were to be traded elsewhere.

I agree I don’t want Holmes and budnick on the same line.

Wolves are happy with that song, and dance
I did say “if” he was available for a song. But, good haul for Sudbury.

It definitely seems like asset mismanagement to me to essentially waste a 10th overall pick in the Euro draft. I guess we aren’t too certain he is coming over.

I’m glad they at least didn’t let Chromiak go to Brantford and addressed the D now rather than not getting neither him nor Pienineimi.

I’m still thinking that they get that OA Dman (Petes?) to really solidify the D. That would mean both those players you mention would be sent down.

I like the move, picks sent to Sudbury don’t mean much, they have time and can always maneuver to get the 2nd back. Having another right handed d that will be here this year and next will be huge. Mann will teach these guys how to play with structure, we don’t need a scoring d, goals will come, we need one that stops us from being scored on and can make the first pass without a turnover. Personally I couldn’t care less how many points he has. The first thing so many people look at in the stats is player points to assign value. You need goal scorers yes, but you also need the guys who are willing to go through a wall for the team and do the things that those goal scoring players won’t do, like block shots, win battles, drop the gloves etc. Not saying Chromiak is that player but he’s one that plays d fairly well and has lots of upside. I think Cooper did another great job on this, he got a player we neended, Chromiak will push the other d at the top to be better, nobody wants to lose playing minutes and we now have a coach who can teach.

They’re for the most part healthy now, upgraded the d, got a new coach. It’s on the players now to figure it out.

Sam Mayer would likely cost Kingston a defenceman plus a couple of high draft picks.
