I believe Cooper was on the bench with Longo.Who else was on the bench for Saturday's game?
Don’t think you can really look too much into this, I watch games very closely and will always review what mistake has caused the goal. Most times it’s one player that screws up throwing a puck away, missing coverage or being weak in a battle. That mistake gives everyone on that line a minus. Also some guys never play with top pairings, they play with rookies or guys who see limited ice.I know +/- isn't the end all be all of all stats, and there is some valid argument that it's not a great stat to use for analysis BUIT....
The only stat where the Fronts lead the league is "-" and they have 5 of the ten worst:

Callens, Soto, Miedema, Poole -- they rarely if ever play with "rookies". I know that Poole/Callans get more PK time than Soto and Miedema - but it speaks more to the entire 5 guys on the ice then just the d. Wingers blowing the zone too early, Centres not coming back deep enough, D too slow to move the puck or outnumbered by aggressive forecheck. It is also losing the puck in the neutral zone or blueline. The only reason #10 isn't on this list is cause he's on for a lot scored too...but his turnovers at the o zone blueline or just inside lead to a lot of chances against.Don’t think you can really look too much into this, I watch games very closely and will always review what mistake has caused the goal. Callens has the worst +/- on this list, and I find he battles hard in the defensive zone and doesn’t lose too many pucks whereas Outwater always gets hemmed in and isn’t strong enough to win the one on one battles for pucks and he’s not listed here.
The bigger issue, is our defensive zone coverage and the mistakes we make when we do have the puck and can’t move it. We are not quick moving up ice, by the time we make a decision that play is gone, or we move pucks without looking where they are going. It’s one of the reasons why I thought McFarland had to go, I’ve seen no defensive structure since he’s been the d coach. It’s one of the reasons why we don’t graduate any defensemen to the NHL. The guys who were drafted never are signed.
About Thibideau- been saying this from the beginning. If I was playing on the same line as him I would ask to be moved. I would be shocked if Ludswinki and Battaglia have not already had a conversation to play as two. If Thibideau is coming up the right side with the puck he’s 100% trying to skate through the defender, 98% of the time the puck gets turned over going the other way. The 2% it gets through and maybe he scores he’s a hero, yet we have two other guys skating in circles waiting for a pass. If he gets in he’s always shooting no matter how bad the angle, I watch this every game like it’s a recording. As I’ve said before, he’s such a talented player, if you only moved the pucks he would be so much better. Maybe his parents are in his ear or his agent. For anyone who has played hockey at any decent level, I can tell you selfish players like these kill the dressing room. I may be wrong, maybe he’s popular in the room, but that would almost have to be like believing in unicorns.Overall positive weekend. There was a new energy in the rink Friday night which was fantastic. It's been awhile coming. Very unfortunate that Mann was suspended and missed the Saturday game. It was evident that some of the guys that had some jump and finally started skating and forechecking with Mann on the bench Friday, went back to their old ways on Saturday without him there. That game was there for the taking vs the first place team in the Conference. Ivankovik and Martone were the difference.
Have to comment on your post about the first period Fronts67. We have been getting along recently. Lol. It's funny how you can point out plays that support you opinion/agenda - like how you feel about Uens as a defender. Yes he got beat by Martone but did keep him somewhat to the outside while Miedema just left his guy out front available to tap in the pass from Martone. But more my point is there was no comment about Holmes being absolutely walked around on the game winner. But you have been hard on burns as well I guess, as have I. I think he will get back to where we need him to be soon. Being injured and missing time must be effecting him. Nice assist when joined the rush with Ludwinski but he looked lost on the 4 on 3 goal against and was weak on trying to keep the puck in on the empty netter. Curious if anyone knows if Schneider is injured or was he a healthy scratch?
And OMG. How bad and biased were those announcers on Saturday?
One thing that is really getting old and will hopefully be corrected by Mann is Thibodeau's selfishness. So much speed and skill but refuses to utilize his teammates, especially on the PP. He refuses to create odd man opportunities on the PP from that high flank position on his forehand. He never passes the puck from there. He either tries to go at a defender 1 on 1 or takes a snap shot from way out. He is not going to score many goals from way out there. Anyone else seeing that?
Again, I think things are moving in a positive direction. Mann only had a few practices to change things. I'd expect to see the boys even more comfortable after a full week of practice with "the Mann" as you put it Fronts67. Love that phrase you have coined.
Need a bounce back win vs Barrie this Friday. Goals will be hard to come by on Saturday as Guelph has only given up 24 goals all year. No one else even close to that amount.
His dad played pro, so perhaps he's telling him things that may have worked for him 2 decades ago....but not sure who is in his ear.About Thibideau- been saying this from the beginning. Well to add to the top ten, 18 players in total on Kingston are registering as a minus so far, the only player who is a plus is Schneider who Frontsfan67 was just saying how much he gets walked around lol and doesn’t bring anything to the team. Well at least he has bragging rights on this stat. Good for Schnieder, I like the underdogs.Callens, Soto, Miedema, Poole -- they rarely if ever play with "rookies". Helps when he never plays too. Wish there was a way to show TOI like in nhl. I find they usually rotate through about 5 d men and then whoever is the 6th whether it’s Schneider or Williamson they don’t play anywhere near as much. And I get why. Uens is prob the 5th d man and is still a bit better than Schneider and Williamson but I think it’s funny how he plays far more than those guys.Well to add to the top ten, 18 players in total on Kingston are registering as a minus so far, the only player who is a plus is Schneider who Frontsfan67 was just saying how much he gets walked around lol and doesn’t bring anything to the team. With all due respect to those currently on the team and from an outsider’s perspective, he’d be top two.Helps when he never plays too. Wish there was a way to show TOI like in nhl. Burns, Holmes, McGowan, Budnick, Uens, Schneider, Williamson is my ranking of the 7 d. Makes sense why Schneider and Williamson probably don’t have that low of a plus minus- they never play.
Which is why I have said it would be great for them to get a top 3/4 d man like Chromiak because then they have 6 d men that can actually play not just play through 5 the whole game with the exception on if one needs a rest. If Chromiak was on our team I think he would be 3rd best. So then push the other guys down- and send down Williamson/trade Schneider, a prospect and picks in a trade for Chromiak
Preemptive move pre-trade???Looks like Ethan Weir is back with Kingston, he's on the roster again and Fronts media posted pictures of him at KHSC so he's in town.
Any idea if someone else is hurt or is this as a result of the Callens suspension and I didn't notice for Mississauga?
Hopkins is off at the U17 tournament, Callens has one more game on his suspension = 2 forwards missing, so they needed Weir for Friday at least.Preemptive move pre-trade???
Even better. My floor for the guy would be top 3 and ceiling top 2. Regardless that’s one hell of a player to be getting. Really hope they can get this guy. With all due respect to those currently on the team and from an outsider’s perspective, he’d be top two.
Correct. I suspect he will play Friday and maybe Saturday before getting sent back unless coach mann loves what he sees. Then he may stay here a little longer. But I don’t think he can play too many games with us with the card situation. Imo play him 2 games here this weekend. Then around Christmas play him 2 more. That would put him at 5 and I think he can only play 9 total cause 10 makes it an A card? I’m still confused with that system so if I’m wrong just correct me. I think if he plays a few games throughout the year at a time and goes down to jr a it should help him. I think he will by the end of the year end up playing the max amount of games before being that A card. And next year hopefully he comes with a fire which would be his draft year and hopefully he can get drafted to the nhl.Hopkins is off at the U17 tournament, Callens has one more game on his suspension = 2 forwards missing, so they needed Weir for Friday at least.
Mann may not be behind the bench but I can guarantee being on the bus would not have been a good thing. Practice today and for the rest of the week will not be a good thing.I've been near the room with my family after games and I can 100
% tell you his Dad is in his ear. Kid can skate and has a decent shot, but is very weak on the puck and has the same move every time
The easiest way to think of it is that you get X amount of cards to sign players on at the beginning of the year. X amount are regular cards and X amount are "affiliate cards". By January 10 (I think) you have to be down to 23 or 25 players (I can never remember which it is, but it's in the GM handbook). This doesn't include your affiliates. If a player is signed to an affiliate card, they are afforded 10 games and then have to make a decision on whether it flips to a regular card and they become an every day player for the parent club or if they return to the lower club. Once the lower level team's season is over, that player can join the higher club full time.Correct. Side note about weir. I wish they handled some of our current players the way that he is getting handled. I feel it would’ve been better for their development in the long run. (Heyes, and brooks when he was on the team for instance)
Games played by affiliate players when players are away at international tournaments like the under 17 do not count towards the ten they are to play.Correct. Players are going to be interviewed.
Do you like it here?
why?
Are you going to step up and prove that you belong or do you want to leave?
The bottom line if players do not skate and do what the coach says then they should be either traded or sent home. AND NO ONE GETS TRADED TO A PLAYOFF TEAM.
That is the fault of the coaching staff. The challenge that you have is that if there is a lack of coaching and direction on a team then the parents are going to make suggestions as to how they think their child can perform better for the scouts. BTW parents have been trying and doing this to kids from the time they put skates on or played road hockey.
Kingston had the biggest train wreck possible back in the early 90's. I won't mention any names to see if anyone remembers.
A hint Oshawa had the same issue for a while.
Recently the challenge would be how to tell a parent that they should be quiet when Shnae is getting told everything by his agent and parents/advisors.
I believe the deadline for Sudbury is tomorrow. It will be interesting to see what the Fronts do regarding Chromiak, if he is available for a song. Do they go after the bird in hand for next to nothing and essentially give up on Pienineimi? Or do they pass and take a chance that he comes over after the WJC? Their inaction here could indicate that they think Pienineimi is coming over this year. Especially if Chromiak goes for peanuts elsewhere.
CorrectI believe the deadline for Sudbury is tomorrow.
Thank God this will be the end of this soap opera.I believe the deadline for Sudbury is tomorrow.
