I assume the Mann suspension is automatic because of Callens and not because of something he did? If so he's gotta be pissed at Callens, not the best first impression for already one of the weakest OAs so far this year.

Edit - just saw the statement. Not a great look for Callens with a new coach.

Are they only gonna have Longo on the bench?
Cooper should fall in to help. Also Mann can still be in eh building he just cant be behind he bench

Longo at least just for now, but Cooper and Mann said they are going to take their time to find another assistant

1st period thoughts..

Thibodeau a little more active in the first period tonight than last night. Hoping his game continues to grow with the coaching change (although Mann isn't on the bench tonight so there's that). He got lots of touches in the OZ, specifically on the PP.

Really impressed with Battaglia last night and through the first period tonight. A couple of dangerous shots in the 1st including absolute robbery by Ivankovic. He uses his frame well and has some craftiness to his offensive game. Also had a good defensive shift where he got the clear on the 2nd chance. Mistakes and fanning attempts happen but you have to get the puck out if you get a 2nd chance, he did.

Very unfortunate with callens doing that. Stupid stupid play especially getting your new coach suspended after his first game. If I’m Mann I’m sitting callens a few games after he gets back so he gets it under control.

Alright first period by kingston. Would’ve been nice to have “the mann” this game against the top team in the league.

Good first 17 mins. Then martone walked right around uens and the last minute and a bit of the period mississauga was all over kingston.

Hopefully kingston comes out very strong after this first period.

Also about thibodeau I forget who said it. Yes he is a hog this year I agree.

However he is aware like anyone that if he doesn’t produce he won’t get drafted. Especially being a 5’9 140lb kid. He has the skill but imo if he worked on his passing and still took the shots he does-he could be one of the stars of the team going forward.

I’m sure Mann will give him lots of pointers on ice and how to carry himself off the ice for when teams come to interview him. That’s something in particular I don’t believe Caputi would be as strong at. Caputi was a great ohler but Mann has coached professionals and would see the little things of a players game better than Caputi and would know what the nhl teams are looking for in a draft interview especially with manns brother being the assistant gm of the Ottawa sens.

For instance last year Soto frasca and battaglia I believe those 3 were up past curfew and missed a few games because of it. I don’t see that stuff flying with Mann. It’s all about being a pro at the end of the day and if they want to take the next step they have to start behaving like one.

If any nhl scouts or coaches became aware of that im sure they’d ask them about it in their draft interviews.

I agree battaglia definitely got robbed by the kid there. Ivankovic is going to be one hell of a player.

One thing I’ve noticed watching the box scores of Mississauga is ivankovic can be knocked off his game scoring a quick goal or two. They need to really pressure the steelheads and ivankovic so start this period

Nice passing back and forth with burns and ludwinski on that goal. Burns gets his first point of the year I believe. Hopefully this wakes him up. Also have noticed ludwinski getting better over the past 3 or 4 games. Glad he’s finding his way now.

2nd period thoughts..

Tone picking up, top two penalized teams in the league getting a little chippier.

Crafty periods of patience by Thibodeau. Was surprised he didn't start the PP after the TV timeout.

Vaccari looks great on the 2nd night of a back to back.

Quieter period from Battaglia.

Fronts lead 2-1..

Pretty good game against sauga who is top in the league. Sucks they blew that lead and lost 4-2. Martone was excellent on their team. Vaccari and Ivankovic were both great. Unreal how good ivankovic is for a rookie. That kid is special. Couldn’t even tell he was a rookie. Does everything well.

Onto the next game against barrie and then finally ‘the mann’ is back behind the bench against Guelph. Hopefully they don’t get poitras back by then lol.

They played a lot of that game like they were still playing for Caputi -- in fact Longo may as well have just had Caputi on facetime and did everything Luca would have done. Unfortunate to lose Mann after one game.

I know +/- isn't the end all be all of all stats, and there is some valid argument that it's not a great stat to use for analysis BUIT....
The only stat where the Fronts lead the league is "-" and they have 5 of the ten worst:

Overall positive weekend. There was a new energy in the rink Friday night which was fantastic. It's been awhile coming. Very unfortunate that Mann was suspended and missed the Saturday game. It was evident that some of the guys that had some jump and finally started skating and forechecking with Mann on the bench Friday, went back to their old ways on Saturday without him there. That game was there for the taking vs the first place team in the Conference. Ivankovik and Martone were the difference.

Have to comment on your post about the first period Fronts67. We have been getting along recently. Lol. It's funny how you can point out plays that support you opinion/agenda - like how you feel about Uens as a defender. Yes he got beat by Martone but did keep him somewhat to the outside while Miedema just left his guy out front available to tap in the pass from Martone. But more my point is there was no comment about Holmes being absolutely walked around on the game winner. But you have been hard on burns as well I guess, as have I. I think he will get back to where we need him to be soon. Being injured and missing time must be effecting him. Nice assist when joined the rush with Ludwinski but he looked lost on the 4 on 3 goal against and was weak on trying to keep the puck in on the empty netter. Curious if anyone knows if Schneider is injured or was he a healthy scratch?

And OMG. How bad and biased were those announcers on Saturday?

One thing that is really getting old and will hopefully be corrected by Mann is Thibodeau's selfishness. So much speed and skill but refuses to utilize his teammates, especially on the PP. He refuses to create odd man opportunities on the PP from that high flank position on his forehand. He never passes the puck from there. He either tries to go at a defender 1 on 1 or takes a snap shot from way out. He is not going to score many goals from way out there. Anyone else seeing that?

Again, I think things are moving in a positive direction. Mann only had a few practices to change things. I'd expect to see the boys even more comfortable after a full week of practice with "the Mann" as you put it Fronts67. Love that phrase you have coined.

Need a bounce back win vs Barrie this Friday. Goals will be hard to come by on Saturday as Guelph has only given up 24 goals all year. No one else even close to that amount.

Holmes to me is a bit of one trick pony - hard shot from the top of the circle on pp. I don't think he's a shutdown dman- but he was deployed as such on Saturday - McGowan and Williamson were essentially benched in the 3rd as was Outwater, Cavallin and Hopkins - which is why I said it was like Caputi was back on the bench - just rolling the same guys out over and over despite what they do.

Definitely a concern but also really an overall team stat when you see 5 players from the same team that high who typically play on different lines. Our goal differential is really bad right now. Both ends need to be corrected in that we need to start giving up less goals against and the boys need to start converting their chances (seems like too obvious of a statement, but true). Lots of breakaways and 2 on 1 chances not being. converted. Like in my post just minutes ago. Guelph has only given up 24 goals all year as opposed to our 57. That is not just on the D as the above list would suggest, but it's also not on those 5. It's a team stat/issue, including the system prior to Mann coming.

I think you nailed it on Holmes. I love when he has the puck on his stick in offensive zone, but in our end he seems to be in quicksand. Is flat footed a lot and gets beat to loose pucks. That's why I don't like he and Budnick paired together.

Sorry for all the posts, just finally have a free morning and excited about things to come for this team.

I'm not sure Budnick is good with anyone to be honest. He's like Jake Gardiner was with the Leafs. Decent skill set but all over the freaking place like he's some sort of rover. He's also prone to bad timing/dumb penalties. I am anticipating a better overall structure with this team in a couple weeks once Mann has had his chance to really implement his systems - but watching the game on Saturday was like dejavu. I think the only player that played well Saturday from start to finish was Battaglia, who has taken a lot of big steps thus far.

I mentioned uens got walked because it was more of a nice move by martone to get the goal however it still was bad defence by uens lol. It happens to everyone on the team mainly Schneider but regardless that’s not how you play defence. It was the only goal at the time I believe and after that Mississauga seemed to control the play for the rest of the game. Big goal for them.

Holmes I let his go because he scored a big goal for us that game. Something uens never does. Would say the same if it was schneider who doesn’t contribute on goals either.

Uens this season 13 games 1 assist. Last 10 games -10. You can’t defend the guy on this lol it’s evident he doesn’t bring much to the team same with Schneider. That’s why I want defence to be improved so these guys don’t play as much. Holmes I’m easy with because he contributes lots on the powerplay and a lot of times doesn’t go into the offensive zone when other d man is in there as he’s the anchor in case they get beat. Not to mention one hell of a shot and doesn’t get knocked off the puck by a little push.

Uens since he’s so small imo needs to gain like 20-25lbs and he will be a lot more solid. Right now I’m sure a lot of the guys in the league would have absolutely no problem pushing him over. Uens on roobroeck for instance- how is he supposed to defend him?

Budnick is good for blocking shots and the pk. That’s about it. Believe it was in the coaches poll last year or the year before he was on there for blocking shots.

Battaglia has taken a big leap I’m glad Mann won’t bury him on the 4th line like caputi

giving up the second most goals against in the entire league 100% falls on the defence and goaltending. Not to mention they have the most goals against on the powerplay with 6. (Windsor is next with 5)
