When a report says "LA is looking for a 1st plus a prospect..." one would assume the 1st is the centerpiece.
The centerpiece of the deal is the 1st round pick.. Seeing how they want a 1st round pick and a prospect. You can't expect Toronto to give up another 1st round pick in Sandin or Lilly for Muzzin can you? Tell me another team that would be willing to pay 2 first round picks for a year and abit of Muzzin.
Semantics. I would say both are equally valuable. For me the prospect is more a centerpiece since the pick is late first rd. Now if the pick was top 10-15. This would qualify as a centerpiece.

Still the point is. LA will have options so I would not expect them taking a low ball offer over a good offer.

Yes...because a non-playoff team is chomping at the bit for a 30 year old with 1 more year on contract.

But there are a bunch of other teams that will beat that offer. Here’s hoping one of the other teams in the east ends up with Muzzin.
Tampa? Probably not...
Boston? Don't see it...
Montreal? They could use him...i have seen their offers in here...
Buffalo? Not so sure....
Washington? Doubt they are asking...
Columbus? Meh....don't think so...
Pittsburgh? They need a LHD?
Islanders? Not sure their looking....
Canes? Loaded at D....
Rangers? Not sure a rental is in their plans...

Those are the teams either in, or within striking distance of the playoffs (being generous with Canes/Rangers). What deals do you see there?

Well if the Kings best offer is a late 1st and a throw in like Bracco. They should just hold onto him till the summer because they could get this next TDL when he is an impending UFA. But my guess will be there will be a better deal than the one above.

As to Leafs fans also. If they would rather go into the playoffs depending on Zaitsev and Hainsey in their top 4. That's fine. I am not sure what Dubas will do? His valuation in past trades would not make me confident if I were a Leafs fan. So maybe they should just sit this one out.

I am definitely open to moving Muzzin to a team in the Western Conference, or even within the Pacific Division. It doesn't matter where he goes. All that matters is getting the best return possible.

Which they probably will before overpaying in a panic trade.

Muzzin has faced the lowest Quality of Competition among LA's top-4 defensemen. That should probably be noted before calling him a "1st pairing D" and "best defenseman on the team this season."

I don't think they should trade him pending overpayment. Rather move Martinez and keep Muzzin for a re-tool.

Passing on significant assets in order to re-sign Muzzin to a $6-7M AAV deal that takes him deep into his 30s would be the worst thing that Blake could possibly do.

A late 1st and mediocre prospect isn't what I'd call significant assets. If they're going for a full rebuild then sure but I doubt that is what Luc and Blake are thinking.

If not receiving an overpayment means settling for "a late 1st and a mediocre prospect," then that that's all that he's worth. If that is what you're suggesting, that's fine, but, if not, then there's room for a deal to be made in-between that and an overpayment.

The price for Muzzin went up tonight. Kings fans, you guys are driving the bus on this if Muzzin is dealt. There are going to be some desperate teams wanting to improve their Defence after tonight.

Muzzin has been the best defenseman on the Kings this year. Plays in all situations. And well. Is plus 9, best on team, that has a minus 37 goal differential!
That's outstanding to be plus 9. Has a Cup ring from 2014. Had 6 goals, 6 assists in playoffs that Cup win year. They had a mic on him for a game 2 weeks ago
and he's always pumping up his teammates and asking questions - about what happened on that play and to interject helpful advice, etc. to younger players....but also was kind of an accountability thing...without being an azz. Was pretty cool.
He really works hard, expects his best and the best in others. Has laid out massive hits the last month. All clean. He's underrated. GMs know it, as does Blake,
so I'm not worried about a return on him, as it will not be paltry. I think Doughty played his best, when Muzzin was his partner.

He's not a rental, per se. Not when you have one more year, and at a sizable bargain at 4 million. If a team gets him and is not happy to resign him at his
going rate, they can still trade him next year all year and get something of value. There's value in that as well.

How did the price for Muzzin go up the weekend the Kings got beat down 7-1?

Not sure how that would make their D more valuable or attractive when they are a dumpster fire.
