Add Keumper, he took off like a rocket after getting LA magic dust sprinkled all over lol
Kuemper was signed by LA at age 27. Cal is currently 27. Not sure if he can turn it around but people have at his age in this organization.

Looking at the free agent goalies that signed over the summer, the options were pretty brutal considering how people reacted to Copley being signed for the third goalie. Too bad the attempts to trade up for Wallstedt were not successful.

I don't know how anyone can say with a straight face "I'm one of the only ones who saw a goalie issue coming" lol.

Quick is a legend but who knows what's left and he shouldn't be starting 50+ games.
Petersen is already a reclamation project. IMO he's just in his own head but he has to solve that quickly.
Copley is a guy who has played 2 NHL games in forever, he might be Budaj but you can't rely on him.
Somehow, Villalta is still here.
Which sends prospects with any promise in Ingham and Hrenak to the ECHL or completely out of the org like Parik was smart to do.

This is all stuff we've been harping on all offseason, except the bandaid named Copley. Even Blake knows, given the smoke about pursuing Wallstedt at the draft. But like other positions...we need blue chip, not depth. Where do you get it? But he has to wear this one because everyone saw it coming a year or two ago (although I think most fairly assumed it would be Quick riding off into the sunset and Cal gently taking the reigns but there was no sure thing behind him).

We are definitely missing what we hope Helenius turns into max upside.

Cal needs a slump buster.

Other than that I’m pretty happy with what we have. Hopefully we get the real deal with Moore and last half season wasn’t a proctological miracle with the ticket he had up his ass.

The only thing you can count on in pre-season, is....it doesn't mean shit.......

It's a place to see prospects or people competing for jobs earn them, and veterans get their game legs back....that's it....anyone drawing conclusions from anything.....ie, Vilardi scoring etc, are just fooling themselves.

Having said that, Vilardi is looking good....I think he earned that 2nd line RW spot.....and it's a good problem to have when Arvidsson comes back.
Agree…but then we shouldn’t jump to the conclusion that Cal sucks either.

As far as Vilardi, I’m just really rooting for the guy, I hope he breaks through this year. Unfortunately, I remember him looking pretty damn good in preseason last year as well…only to revert to dogshit form once real games got underway.

It looks like it was on NHL Network.
Once again just a clown show from the NHL.

He was royally screwed over last season. He played with nobody that had skill. It was like he was punished. Look what happens when he gets the opportunity to play with skill. This shit doesn’t happen on accident.

Cal was brutal last night....no doubt about it......but yea, same idea, don't jump to conclusions.....

I am looking....what happens when gets to play with skill.....against JV guys.....like I said, pre-season means absolute shit......

It's encouraging that he looks good....and faster...for sure.....but I'm gonna wait 10-15 games into the season to see how he plays against the varsity team first.

Agreed, but at least we’re getting a look at what he can do playing with better players and hopefully it continues into the regular season.

Trade him at 50 percent and take a league minimum goalie. Win win. No one can be worse than cal

If I have a league minimum goalie who is better than $2.5m Petersen, why am I trading for Petersen? What are you adding to the deal to make it worth my time?

Who's the best goalie hitting waivers this year?

They have 6 goalies under contract. They're not picking anyone up on waivers. It's Quick and Petersen this year, for better or wotse.

He didn't last after leaving the Kings, but even Ben Scrivens was good in a Kings uniform. That guy was a character.

Nice to see the scorecard lit up withe names like Vilardi, Kaliyev and Bjornfot. I know it's only pre-season, but makes you wonder if the the whole 'player development' topic isn't all just gloom and doom, just needs a little patience.
Were Vilardi and Kaliyev scoring from the 4th line last night, or were they scoring from playing in more offensive situations with higher skilled linemates?

Makes you wonder why that would happen...

Patience isn't needed. Proper deployment designed to take advantage of skill sets so the more talented players can help the team shouldn't be so confusing.

This is the huge difference. Getting time with two players with practically zero experience in the NHL is different than getting meaningful time with experienced players in key situations. Its not free wheeling like with Andersson and Tkachev, its controlled and productive.

He looks different this year, hope he can settle into that.

Even if Moore regresses, he just gets bumped down in the lineup because of the tenacity he brings. I'm hoping that one of the kids earns a spot on that second line. Moore is UFA in the offseason, so decisions need to be made.

Agreed. Gabe has obviously worked on his skating because he's noticeably faster. I also think his conditioning is better because he seemed to fall down often later in shifts last season. I think that was fatigue.

Disagree, he played where he proved he should play because he wasn't showing anything else. He played himself OUT of a roster spot.

Kaliyev didn't need to be on the top two lines last year to prove his worth and stay on the roster -- it's not always about these players scoring goals. Gabe played himself off the team last year, hoping he sticks this year and is a productive player with or without the points.

So, Kaliyev scoring from the 4th line all last year...was.....what?

Preseason is great to finally get hockey after being off for months. Exciting time. Nice to see young guys doing well and all. However, it's still just preseason and virtually meaningless. I'm not going to get too excited nor lose my sh!t over some preseason efforts goods or bad. It's something because there's nothing else to evaluate on and discuss. But come next week, the real season starts and things will be different (for good or bad).

I'd say is was pretty awesome for a kid to score 14g almost exclusively from the 4th line playing with the likes of Lizotte and Lemieux

Exactly....and he will be moving up to play with more skill in Byfield, Iafallo.....I think he's gonna have a good year.

Yep, it's good to see which players made progess.....(Vilardi, Kupari, Byfield) Upcoming prospects (Clarke, Grans, Fagemo) etc....and the promise they come with...but ultimately doesn't mean crap
