Well. Maybe one of the extra RD can be traded for a goalie, since they have yet to address that part of the pipeline.

Unfortunately for JAD, if it's between him and Lizotte, he wasn't able to steal it tonight.

Vilardi earned himself a longer look.

Spence's play without the puck is needing some adjustment. Just giving his assignments just too much space.

God Hayward looks terrible. He needs to accept his age and get rid of the wig.

Vilardi, Kaliyev, Clarke looked good. Kupari looks like a young Kempe, just hope he puts it together faster.

Good news is it isn't going to be difficult to find guys to waive. JAD, Lias, 4th line is full. Waive both. Spence needs more AHL. That's fine. Walker needs AHL time as well. Cal 5-hole Peterson is about to start the season for the Reign.

*Wouldn't blame Blake for signing Thompson tomorrow.
** No point in buying out 5-hole due to the bonus structure in the contract. :skeptic: I know. No way he got a bonus contract. No way.

Honeslty the waivers vs. not waivers at this point seem VERY clear but I guess they mostly did last season too so we'll see!

for all the "well just buy him out crowd"... I'm reasonably certain there's a window you can buy a guy out and we're no longer in that window

But everyone always told me we had a great goaltender development system!

Why can't the great Ranford "develop" Cal? Or do anything with any goalie we've drafted since god knows when.

injured (or suspended players) can't be assigned to the AHL

He'll presumably start the season on Season Opening IR and ultimately find his way back to Ontario or Greenville.
Thanks. I knew the rule but had missed that he was injured so it now makes sense 😀

Gabe!

la kings are dumb as f*** letting that moron run a team
I have no idea how Sturm will do but I do not think the pp issues were (all) his. Kopitar being planted with his butt on the half wall is a vet wanting to do it his way. The over long shifts on the pp is on TMac. When questioned about the poor power play the response was along the lines of collective responsibility. Had it all been on Sturm he’d have said that, because if he‘d given an untrue reply it’d be pretty career limiting. Hiller has the cv where he could say that he gets to ‘do it my way or I’ll sign elsewhere’, that’s what has enabled the change. I would be it’s more of a Blake hire than a TMac one.

In general I like TMac but he has to take a lot of the pp responsibility because even if it was all on Sturm he should have insisted on things changing in November last year as it was obviously an issue then. I’m not saying Sturm will be good, I have no idea, but I don’t think last years pp is necessarily a good guideline.

Since 2005, the Kings have developed:
Bernier
Quick
Jones
Campbell

All into starting goaltenders. And had Patrik Bartosak before he allegedly tried strangling his girlfriend. He's been good in Europe.

As far as Cal - goaltending is heavy on focus. He has declined over time. And even with a great system, not all are guaranteed.

While the quality has gone down since Imoo left, developing 4 goalies who became starters around the league, is pretty good. How many teams are better?

Add Keumper, he took off like a rocket after getting LA magic dust sprinkled all over lol

Nice to see the scorecard lit up withe names like Vilardi, Kaliyev and Bjornfot. I know it's only pre-season, but makes you wonder if the the whole 'player development' topic isn't all just gloom and doom, just needs a little patience.
True, but the following has to be said: It's also preseason where they are getting much more ice time than they will in the regular season and are playing against weaker competition than the regular season.

The only thing you can count on in pre-season, is....it doesn't mean shit.......

It's a place to see prospects or people competing for jobs earn them, and veterans get their game legs back....that's it....anyone drawing conclusions from anything.....ie, Vilardi scoring etc, are just fooling themselves.

Having said that, Vilardi is looking good....I think he earned that 2nd line RW spot.....and it's a good problem to have when Arvidsson comes back.
