do you know if it was even on the ESPN+ schedule? I had the app up last night and didn't see it -- also didn't show up on TV options under NHL.com
I don't, I was just going off of the listed networks for the game on NHL.com. It usually says ESPN or ESPN+ when it's on there, and it only said NHLN and Bally last night.

Iafallo’s actually a pretty valuable contract for what he brings. $4 million isn’t what it used to be, and some comparables are guys like Goodrow, Coleman, Fabbri, and Marchment.

His production will drop because he’s going to be playing fewer minutes at even strength and on the power play. This is a good thing. That means better guys are getting those minutes. Playing that second or third line role is a perfect fit for him.

Being a high end puck hound for Kaliyev and Byfield is a fantastic use of skillset for Iafallo, who looks to be healthy again.

People might want to crap on the checkers but they serve a purpose, especially those that can play up the lineup.
Amen to this. Iafallo was one of the hottest players on the team last year for a good period of time. He is also underrated for his skillset. Anyone on that line can score as well as dish the puck.

Cal isn't progressing and Copley can drop the mitts. That about sums it up for me.

I agree.

I've been a huge fan of Blake's moves but I can't understand how Petersen got that contract. I mean he hasn't really proven anything yet at this level. At least it's fairly short.

If I have a league minimum goalie who is better than $2.5m Petersen, why am I trading for Petersen? What are you adding to the deal to make it worth my time?

They have 6 goalies under contract. They're not picking anyone up on waivers. It's Quick and Petersen this year, for better or wotse.
Walker

Why does anyone want Walker right now? He's 27 and coming off of a major injury. It also means making room for $5M+ rather than just half of Petersen's hit. If we moved Petersen it would cost us a cheaper, better asset unless Walker somehow goes nuclear in the first half.

Were Vilardi and Kaliyev scoring from the 4th line last night, or were they scoring from playing in more offensive situations with higher skilled linemates?

Vilardi got 56 games (the entire 20-21 season) in a top 6 role.

Kaliyev is projected to play his entire age 21 season next to a #2 overall pick and a solid veteran middle six. In a league where teams need to rely on a third line for offense that is a fine spot. Although some PP time over Danault and Iafallo would be nice.

It’s worth it. He’s not an old geezer where people are bringing his age and injury into question. It’s a bit of an over reach. Shit the Kings brought back edler at 36 when his femur was blasted to high heaven

Please leave rationale thought out of this thread.

This thread is for overemotional posts based on small sample sizes
Well in fairness to that guy all we have for Clarke is a small sample size. And if you are judging young players like Clarke thats all you can go on. Walker has been on the team a couple years and hasnt been able to stay healthy. If you have to decide between those 2 players there shouldnt much debate really.

Because Quick's contract had run every other goalie with aspirations out of the organization. Petersen was the youngest guy left, and he was already on his way to being a UFA. They lose him, they're left with an aging Quick, and what? They bought UFA years in some desperation.

Your enticement to take $2.5m of a terrible goalie for the next 3 years is a $2.65m and $6m in cash or the next 2 years Sean Walker? Are you just trolling? And you're not taking any crap back?

What would you add to 50% of Petersen and 100% of Walker to get a deal done? Let me guess, Wagner?

It could mean that the Kings want to see Clarke as the RHD playing on the left side in case they need him there. They have three RHD on one-way contracts as it is in Doughty, Roy, and Durzi. Once Durzi is 100%, one place you could put Clarke is on the left side.
Or it could be that they weren't super thrilled with Sean Walker on left and wanted to see how he played back on right with someone like Edler who they have CONSTANTLY praised all camp long for his calming effect on his D partner.

we've seen more of Clarke on the right this preseason than we have of Walker at all and Walker is arguably a way more important player to evaluate at the moment given his contract status

BUT THAT'S ALL SPECULATION ANYWAY the point is there are likely multiple reasons for any decision and it's all preseason so whateverrrrrrr

Petersen had .916 sv % over 54 career NHL games before signing the extension last year. Another goalie was extended last year. This goalie is a year younger than Petersen and had .921 sv% over 47 career NHL games. He signed a 4 year extension for 5.6 aav last year. Comparing those two, Petersen's contract makes sense. Unfortunately, the other guy followed it up with a much better season and won the Vezina last season.

This is the problem with a salary cap. In order to sign guys to good contracts, you have to extend them early before you really see what they are. It will bite you occasionally.

I'll give you three guesses as to which skater has led the Kings in ice time during preseason. Hint: It's not Sean Walker.

Pretty sure the Kings are trying REEEEEEAAALLY hard to evaluate what they have in Brandt Clarke.

Of course they are. They have said as much. They told us he would play basically every preseason game.

Yet here we are with people questioning which group he's skating in on non-game days, which side, who's his partner.

Preseason is all about evaluating and practicing. They're evaluating. And practicing.

And there's 20+ other dudes still on the roster to think about as well.

My theory on Clarke is they'll give him 9 games... send to the O and then try to make room for him during the season. If they could trade Durzi or Roy and other pieces (including Walker) for a LHD that would be perfect. That would a very unlikely single trade scenario.. but maybe AZ would bite given the right addons.

If they send him down to the OHL, they cannot call him back up until his OHL season is over. That's the dilemma. It's a season-long commitment when he's sent down to juniors.

Since 2005, the Kings have developed:
Bernier
Quick
Jones
Campbell

All into starting goaltenders. And had Patrik Bartosak before he allegedly tried strangling his girlfriend. He's been good in Europe.

As far as Cal - goaltending is heavy on focus. He has declined over time. And even with a great system, not all are guaranteed.

While the quality has gone down since Imoo left, developing 4 goalies who became starters around the league, is pretty good. How many teams are better?
Jones and Bernier are dime-a-dozen guys. Bernier is a career backup who was given a starting opportunity (due to his draft position) a few times and failed. Jones was a bad-to-mediocre starter for a little while and he's now a backup.

The only quality starters out of that group are Quick and Campbell, and I predict Campbell will struggle in Edmonton.

There was a time under TM/Sutter when almost every goalie we threw in net had success. There's your correlation.

You didn't answer all the teams who do it better, if they are so terrible.
