I bet the team is going to turn around and trade him for a draft pick or two,

................

I don't even know how to reply to this other than

First off, this is the NHL. Sign and trades don't happen unless you're a sack of **** organization like San Jose. Second, Schultz has negative value. We can maybe give a pick to get rid of him. Maybe. Thankfully this is only a one year deal...

i think if we can get ellerby to mancheaster for a year it would help his developement a great deal. He would get alot more mintues to develope his defensive game instead of learning on the fly in the nhl

And then be in LA as a very cheap 5,6, or 7.

Guys! I just saw this video of Jeff Schultz with an amazing defensive play.

:sarcasm:

That's a glitch. In the REAL version of the game, Schultz tripped on the top of the circle and the pick ricochet's off his face and in the net.

Low risk signing, especially with Drewiske gone and no other defensemen from Manchester NHL ready, apparently.

With 9 defensemen signed, you would think one gets waived, one gets traded, and one warms the bench.

That traded defensemen will likely be packaged for a low risk winger.

Since I read Ellerby is on a two way contract, he'll probably be waived and will ask as the first callup in case of injury.

Schultz is there in case Ellerby gets claimed, but will be the defacto #7.

Just my guess.

Didn't we run with 8 D for a good chunk of the year? I could see that happening again if they're comfortable enough with our forwards.

FWIW, capgeek shows Ellerby as a 1 way contract.

CapGeek is an amazing tool but they're not the end all, be all. They rely 100% on other reports and there hasn't been any word that I've seen ruling it a one way contract. I could have missed it but who knows. Even if it is, it has zero effect on his ability to be sent to Manchester, just how much he gets paid.

And yes, Ollie, we did have 8 D for a long time. And I've been saying it's realistic long before we signed this putz.

Good, because theoretically I'd sooner cling like a miser to both Martinez and Muzzin rather than a 14th forward. Course that depends on the new forward lol.

Capgeek uses other sources but lists the standard disclaimer "** CONTRACT DETAILS AND BONUSES (IF APPLICABLE) NOT OFFICIAL — CHECK BACK SOON **" along with a link to the external source if it hasn't been verified. So for example, Horton and Jeff Schultz have that disclaimer and link to the external source for now. Ellerby does not have that disclaimer so I assume his contract is officially a 1 way deal.

In any case, if he (or Schultz) aren't cutting it, I agree that they will be sent to Manchester. Kind of like how I expect the Kings to bury Cliche in Manchester even though he has a 1 way contract.

I can't even be mad about this signing because it just reminds me too much of Hunter/Moreau/Calder/Nagy etc. in a funny way where we're all left scratching our heads at the wtf-ness of it.

Either trade Muffin man or Martinez and roll with

Doughty-Regehr
Voynov-Mitchell
Muzzin/Martinez-Greene
And let Ellerby and Schultz battle for the #7 spot.
