Hahahahaha wow, oh my God. I have been literally praying for years that Jeff Schultz would leave the team. I'm sorry he had to go to one of the teams I like. But yeah - low down on Schultz - arguably the worst defenseman I have ever seen play the game of hockey. We were all excited to have a huge dman come in...only to see that he has NO intention of using it. Not physical in the slightest bit, no offense to speak of, weak skater...the list goes on. Good luck, Kings fans. Our pain is now yours.

Still better than Ellerby...

The great news is, we just found a replacement for the Drewiske smirk in our GDTs.

Thanks, Deano. Possibly the least menacing player I've ever seen.

Muahahaha yes!

Alright, well I'm pumped!

I want one answer: WHY?!

Free agent wise, we needed a 2nd line LWer. Are we gunna ****ing trade for one?!

WHY?!?!

Can he be sent to the minors? Or is it just a one way contract? IDK. This is just dumb. I want to know what the heck is going on.

and he's not even cute..blurgh.

Well, anyone can :P He would have to go through waivers, but it was speculated that we didn't give Ellerby a qualifying offer because Dean wanted to sign him to a two-way deal, which would mean that somewhere in the future he anticipated that he might have to send him to the minors through waivers. Though, I doubt Dean would go through all this trouble.

This whole deal is killing me. So many RD's... Doughty, Voynov, Greene, Ellerby, and Schultz are RD's, why sign Schultz right after we sign Ellerby? I can't imagine us trading Greene and the first two are nearly untouchable. There has to be much more to this deal than meets the eye. It has much more meaning than just a depth signing, but we won't know until Dean pulls his next trigger. There has to be a trade soon.

As much fun as I'm having with the antics let's try to remember that it's a $700,000 expenditure for a cheap depth player with some NHL games under his belt.

For perspective, Schultz signed for cheaper than Ellerby and it's going to be less than what Muzzin or Martinez is probably going to get. It's a peanut signing that cost the team nothing in assets like prospects or picks.

Oates was the coach to finally realize how horrible he was - benched Hamrlik and Schultz permanently. Smartest move any Caps coach has ever made. Hopefully Sutter makes the same move.

Could you imagine if the Kings traded Greene? Oh my lord. That wouldn't make much sense though because there goes the Kings toughness.

I'd imagine something is going on with Martinez. Or maybe cya Voynov? ahha :(

Why did he have a better season under Bordeau? What was he like when he did play well?

Worst. $700K. Ever.

He NEVER played well.

His claim to fame was having a high plus/minus on a strong offensive team.

I know it all sounds like hyperbole but there is not one Caps fan that has anything nice to say about him. He IS THAT BAD.

Is this legit? they dont need another D. Unless they plan on trading Marinez.

-They have: Drew Doughty, Matt Greene, Jake Muzzin, Robyn Regehr, Slava Voynov, Alec Martinez, Keaton Ellerby.

- They have no room for him. Muzzin is a full time NHL'er.

-Martinez, has some trade rumors on him. But he will be a bottom 6.

-Ellerby, is a bottom 6 or the 7th D.

That's a very underwhelming defense core. I assume DL is just trying to mix and match and hope to strike gold. I'm not sure why they did it after pinching and manipulating trades to acquire cap space though.

This is just like the Hunter and Moreau signings, depth in case of injuries, but likely will end up on waivers and in Manchester sooner than later.
