This team always plays lackadaisical in the regular season. We haven't finished higher then 5th in the regular since becoming playoff team in 2010. Think about that. But everyone knows what they do in the playoffs. At this point I would be concerned if we were in first place. Sutter said the team goal is to get to a 100 points. 100 points gets you a playoff the spot. They really don't seem to have any interest in winning the division or presidents trophy.

Didn't see the game, but it looks like we lost, so i assume the Hawks cheated or the game was rigged and this is Richards' fault (both of them)

2 cups in 3 years and you are questioning why the kings don't manage their cap like the ducks? Give me a freakin break. Voynov screwed the cap, end of story.
I wasn't questioning the managing of cap space! I was just pointing out they don't have the flexibility that other teams have. I agree, Voynov screwed up the cap, and yes, that would be hard to manage. Feeling you can't move guys up or down because of waivers is a different issue. At which point of bad play by different personnel do you finally say screw it, and play who you think the best players are in your entire organization. It's not an easy call, and DL seems loyal to his troops that got him the cup. But at which point do you start to wonder if his loyalty is what keeps the franchise from a third? I wouldn't want his job, but yet, I'll admit, I type away here!!! I pose it all for thoughts!!!

i agree... and personally, i wish they'd have kept Carcillo.

Totally agree. I was bummed when he left. As goofy as that sounds. We don't really have anyone with a screw loose and those are the REALLY scary guys (Carcillo, Downie, etc.).

Quick just got six full days of rest....Soooo. This Kings team is not tired, it's lazy.

I mean, I thought I was talking grander scale as in over the last three years, not just 'this week.' But even if Quick got some rest the remainder of the team didn't, and while part of me thinks it's the usual phone-in-the-regular-season act, the other part of me thinks they're just physically, emotionally, and mentally spent. Would love to see the lineup sprinkled with youth and hunger throughout the season to keep guys fresh is all, not advocating blowing anything up.

And I think most of us realize that DL is loyal enough that this team is this team for the rest of the year almost no matter what. It would take us falling out of challenging for a playoff spot a la 2012 for something drastic. And as infuriating as it can be as a fan, no matter what is currently happening, I think we all know these guys deserve to try again to win it with most of the same team that has won two of the last three cups.

Why is it every time the Kings play the Hawks I have to hear about CM Punk? Why is this guy even relevant? Who cares?

(that wasn't directed at you Ron just making a point)

Cool, he's also one crosscheck in the back or punch after the whistle from a 20 game suspension. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate Carcillo, but the guy is ready to snap at any moment. It's amazing to me that someone with so many screws loose can make it this far in life, yet there he is, teetering on the brink of oblivion.

During HNIC I believe, someone told a story how Carcillo was moments away from leaving the bench to engage in a fight vs the Ducks [maybe another team].OnE of his players had to grab him off the ice and throw him over the boards before he got involved, or else he'd have been nailed by the refs for leaving the bench to fight. He was that close to getting suspended again.

That was the night before. They were playing the Sux. He jumped from the bench and on the ice after Oduya got boarded head first into the dashboards. Another teammate grabbed him before anything can happen.

I had forgotten who this guy is so I did some research and he is some kind of fighter for some fake kind of fighting (sorry I just don't follow fake fighting).

Seems like its just a good natured Twitter feud between the mascot and the punk. LOL

Blackhawks fan CM Punk pays up on bet with the LA Kings mascot, wears Kings jersey

It's Chicago sports culture in general. Everyone is a big happy family with the jerseys and everything else when whoever is winning. The Hawks/Bulls/Sox are the best team in the world, etc, and all of a sudden everyone has a friend or uncle or fourth cousin who lives there still.

At least the LA bandwagon just empties when they stop winning. Chicago sports fan travel from sport to sport, fans of all, masters of none.

That isn't a "Chicago sports culture", that's a California sports culture cheering for the Hawks. Big difference.

No born and bred Chicagoan, Cubs/White Sox fan would be caught dead cheering for the other team in the World Series. We're ingrained since birth to know if we are Northsiders or Southsiders. And if you defect, you make sure to do it after your parents die or else the news will kill them.

And for the dude that ranted about the classless woman screaming at the game.....why not have her freaking kicked out instead of curtailing your own pleasure of the game? We had a lunatic fan tossed at the Pond and it really wasn't that difficult. Crappy people abound everywhere. Welcome to LIFE. I don't know about some of you, but there is NO WAY I am leaving a game early b/c of some idiot. He's going before I am, that's a guarantee.

Kings practice enters hour two. Please send pizza.

Looks like the players are paying for their lackluster effort vs the Hawks, Sutter giving them a good workout.

@Rich_Hammond: Sutter had no update on Gaborik and whatever it is that’s bothering him.

The mystery man with the mystery illnesses, all season long...

All 3 injuries have been at /on/after practices, none from games. Have to wonder if it's some nagging issue that keeps cropping up. Or one of those 'wait to the seasons over for surgery and play thru it' injuries.

Difficult to move players into and out of the lineup like that with the cap.

But yeah, the Kings have played 64 playoff games over the last 3 years, while also winning the Cup twice. That's almost a full season's worth of games, all at playoff intensity. That's 64 games more than most other teams. Plus this isn't 20-30 years ago, when teams that won were just that much better than everyone else. There's not much that separates the Kings from other teams.

That's a great point.

There is so much parity from top to bottom, that good teams could conceivably miss the playoffs due to randomness.

Even the best team in the NHL likely hasn't got a better than 10% chance to win the Cup.

There is little to choose between the top teams, and the randomness of hockey ensures there will be upsets aplenty.
