Another game where we didn't start on time. We played pretty good after that first 10 minutes but the finish wasn't there today. We need to do something more then just try to shoot for rebounds and tips.

Top 6 needs to pick it up some notches. Conner and Dubois looked better but Conner is passing up on way too many shots right now. If the plan is to curl and hold up the puck then the attack needs to be layered to give the puck carrier options. There were no good ones today.

Problem with benching/dumping/scratching scheifele is there's 0 viable top-6 C replacement for Maybe Namestnikov in spurts, but that's probably it. You aren't increasing chances in more goals shifting Lowry or Stenlund more. And same goes for next year, short of signing/trading someone.
It's funny... I've wasted too much of my life trying to explain to Habs fans on the main board that trading for PLD and locking him up long term is a key to their rebuild, even if it means dealing Dach.

Having 1-2 centre depth in the NHL is HUGE. Suzuki/PLD is what you try to build around. Dach could be good, and so could their 1st round pick this year. - but neither are a guarantee.

Personally if you gave me the option of signing g PLD to an 8 year deal or having Dach and a mid 1st pick, it's not even close

We could be stuck with Perfetti and Lowry as our 1-2 next year. Yuck

one of the least enjoyable games I've ever watched as a Jets fan, and I remember saying something like that not long ago. This team is so f***ing stupid and unlikeable. The top end guys contract wise are locker room cancers (Wheeler and Scheif) and our best producing player is an arrogant prick of a goaltender. I hate losing and love winning but this team makes it very hard to feel ok about a loss. Lazy and stupid. Shit. I can take one of those MAYBE, but both?

I've never understood your contempt for Hellebuyck. It comes across as personal.

Helle still at .918 with this sad sack team in front of him... pay the guy $12 million
The Jets should pull out all stops to get Hellebuyck to stay here. We have absolutely no replacement, unless we want to roll with Arvid Holm. Elite goalies don't grow on trees, and if we lose Helle, we would need to sign a free agent at a inflated cost. The Steve Mason experiment ended badly, having to give up Armia and a draft pick, just to get his contract off the books.

Well we have that supposed 1-2 centre depth and we're still a middling team. So how "HUGE" is he really? Last 3 years with PLD what's our pts% rank?

Then consider we have a great goalie too, which MTL does not. It is important to have a good 1-2, as well as defense, overall fwd depth and goaltending. MTL needs all that still. I don't think they should be emptying the cupboards for PLD at this point with so much of the roster needing work.

Was Mark Scheifele really the reason this team lost. Was his lost draw worse than Dubois's? I mean Dubois at least had time to move the guy out of the goalie's eyes, but he didn't.

What I saw on that lost draw was Wheeler didn't fill the gap, which gave a clean shot. What I saw on the ice was Wheeler struggled to win one on one's and make any good puck movements. I did see Scheifele give Dubois a great feed that got him attacking off the edge, by stickhandling through the Kings trap. I saw him set up Ehlers for two in a row from the slot at the top of the circles, great shooting area, no shots on goal though.

I mean Scheifele drew a lot of Danault in this game, and Danault is a hard matchup centre, the Kings didn't give the Jets a lot of space, and the guys who aren't strong on the puck struggled to create any space.

I don't think he should be averse to criticism in this game, or any recent loss, but he's become the scapegoat.
I thought Connor actually had a worse game than Scheifele, objectively. I wonder if he has some kind of hand injury because he's not shooting the puck very dangerously at all, and the rest of his game isn't dominant enough to protect him from negative results.

I just don't know what you do if you are Bones. Maybe load up the power line of Connor-Dubois-Scheifele, get them to play the way you want. Put Namestnikov back between Ehlers and Wheeler, which was working? And move Niedrreiter down a line?
Would never pin any loss on any one player and am not scapegoating Scheifele, but for me he is not playing anywhere close to how he was playing in the first half of the season and for me really looks uninterested on the ice. Does losing compound the matter sure, but I hold him to a higher level because I have seen him play the right way and he is not doing that atm.

After today game, I had to do a prayer
God, Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change.......

I was pleasantly surprised when I took a look at the pre-game thread, so many people predicting a Jets win. The Kings have been on fire since All Star break, and are in contention to finish first in the Pacific. I knew that Helle would have to play lights out just to have a shot at winning. Unfortunately, that did not occur.

My biggest gripe with Wheeler is that in almost every game he takes a stupid, selfish penalty. We have an excellent PK but eventually it catches up to you.

And if we could only play the first 2 minutes of each period without being scored upon.
He's only got 40 pim, so he's at most taken a stupid penalty in only 20 games. I feel like PLD leads in dumb penalties. 😆

Overpay PLD and overpay Helle... get rid of mister perfect

Im fine with PLD-Lowry-Stenlund down the middle if it means the team fkn shows up and tries...

I like PLD, but I don't think he will be signing here. He has the same attitude towards Winnipeg that Trouba and Kane did- he wants to get out of here as fast as possible.

Connor Dubois Ehlers.

Their best offensive line, sitting there. Connor curls back? There is Ehlers. But Connor won't have to drive play, so Ehlers can curl and find Connor, to let him shoot. The team is devoid of offense. This is the offense.

Baron Scheifele Nino

Scheif and Nino get a guy who is there to bang and throw pucks to scorers, and has good vision. Scheif and Nino love cycling, Barron can do that while passing to two shooters.

Name Lowry Wheeler

Hey Wheeler gets a break! Maybe he's more effective with more breaths.

4th line who cares, Sak is locked in as a PKer despite sucking everywhere else, Stenlund 4c and scrubapples somewhere.

I'd rather they miss the playoffs at this point if they're going to be this fragile.
I'm normally anti-tank but I fear something is broken mentally with this group and I loathe to say, but they may need a major shake up.

Possible... or does he want out because the locker room is an absolute mess?

Id make a really hard push this summer for both those guys - but really everything rests on Helle - I'd rather be paying him as a 1B for the last 2-3 years of his contract while Divincentis takes the helm on his ELC

I'll always give the *coach buff* to a Vet, but I wouldn't mind. Wheeler is fine in bursts. Keep them to bursts

Looking at Tuesdays slate of games, Predators go to Boston, LA goes to Calgary and the Jet play in San Jose. Has to be a win for the Jets and a chance for some breathing room. But before those games the Leafs play in Nashville tomorrow and they better not lose.

There are issues with the locker room. I was hoping they would be resolved now that we ahve a new coach, and Wheeler is not captain anymore. Who is rumoured to be the problem? I've heard so many things over the years.

It's really sad that Berdin did not work out. For a while, it looked like he would be a solid backup. Comrie obviously was not the answer. Rittich is going to be 31, and never was a legitimate starter. Hopefully we get lucky with DiVincentiis, but he won't be ready for at least a couple of years.

There's isn't one part of me that believes the Jets will be ready to play San Jose...

If we lose Helle, we will end up having to throw DD to the wolves... I'm not kidding when I saw $12 million a year for Helle - if that means he mentors DD then its worth it

I mean we are barely hanging onto a spot ahead of a team with a disaster in maelstrom and another team that tried to tank and is ravaged by injuries.... could you IMAGINE this team without Helle bailing them out

Nashville is not going to win in Boston. The Flames aren't any good, so ideally the Kings and Bruins will help us. Ultimately the Jets fate is in their own hands. We theoretically should be a weak Sharks team.

The team as a whole takes a lot of bad penalties.

Scheif leads the team in the net positive of penalties taken vs drawn with 14. Ehlers is +10 and Apples is +7 in that regard. Unfortunately Wheeler is -10. Worst on the team.

Well I mean Boston did lose to Arizona and another cellar dweller.... so you never know - they are an AHL team playing for their jobs... we have 3 players playing not to get hurt for golfing season
