I remember the last time the Kings had two number one goalies in net -- Kelly Hrudey and Grant Fuhr in '95. Their playoff fate was decided in the final game of the season against the Blackhawks, and Rogie Vachon (acting as the interim coach, taking over the fired Barry Melrose) went with the wrong goalie in that last game.

Nobody needs a goalie. That's why Tampa didn't get much for Bishop.

The Kings have the youngest defense they've had since...I don't even know when. Doughty is the elder statesman in games played, and not too far off Martinez in age.

I'm going to guess if Bishop ends up playing X amount, and/or the Kings go deep, the pick ends up higher in the draft. What's not good about it?

we would then be giving up to much To me budja and cernik are fair we get a 5th for a 7th win if its a 5th for a 2nd and 7th to much unless bishop in playing in said finals

Free up how? And although I've been a fan of Bishops since his days in Ottawa, this year he hasn't been good, and his numbers don't lie. So right now, given how he's played, I don't see him as an upgrade over Budaj who has been better . As for wearing down, with Quick back, Budaj would have plenty of time to rest between starts, Quick would be playing most of the remaining games, Budaj would have what about 4 or so more starts over 6 weeks?

DL still sees this team as a contender, he's still lost in the past. Getting a new backup goalie won't solve their scoring problems. Their shots per 60 were only slightly lower (1g per game) than last year. They are not sacrificing offense to play defense.

And they will be playing teams with top goalies who do have better scoring forwards.
Best of luck to Big Ben, maybe this will give him a boost.

But their scoring chances against are the lowest since 2012 and I think the eye test will support that. Its just that practically every high danger scoring chance goes in our net if it hits the 4x6.

Damacles is right about the utter back breakers, especially in February. Having to chase the game every game is crap and you could see it in the team's body language--start out on fire, only to have the other team score the first shot on goal because you head butted the puck into your own net. First shot of the period because a guy threw a backhand across the goal line. And so on. Is that quantifiable in stats? I don't think so. But I know it as a player--busting your ass doing practically everything right only to have one mistake end up as a goal against is crushing.

Adrian Kempe for Justin Abdelkader trade incoming.

I was going to say I would delete my account if that happened but I could see it.

Bishop is a better goalie. Budaj let too many soft ones in.

I think the Kings were playing defensively even more so than usual. Hopefully Bishop won't let those soft ones in so the kings won't have to play behind all the time or with more of an eye on getting back on defense.

haha i remember the trade!! Fuhr was utterly terrible, i'm assuming he played the last game? i can't recall

Also smacks completely of....Lombardi has to think this team has completely underachieved; and believes the goalie situation was the big cause of it.

Cause if Lombardi thought this wasn't a playoff roster, he would have sold most likely.

let's say the kings miss the playoffs. Then this deal is LA moving from the 7th round to the 5th for the cost of Cernak.

Pretty good deal that way too

if bishop is on the bench yes if hes playing not so much

you're talking about the 62nd pick in what is said a weak draft.

I'd give that up for a cup anyday of the week. If bishop wins one game for LA it is easily worth it...and I mean one game in the playoffs or season, not just the playoffs.

I think we have dominated at times and lost too many games in the last 2 months and this is a step up , at times we have played so much defense that we are breaking out of the zone with all 5 players inside the zone , not very hard to trap us that way, not blaming budaj for it all but after the softies and games like Dallas last month we can't play the last 20 that way ..... If we keep him it's a pretty good duo

Well like i said above if hes playing and we win the cup im ok with it. If he doesn't get into any games and we still give up the 2nd id be upset. Despite the fact we have been trading away whoever we pick in that spot wee draft nhl players with that pick and the fact its later then most make it more valuable imo The later we draft the better the pick seems to turn out

The problem with dealing Bishop is who would back up Quick now? Zatkoff? lol

I'm not saying it would happen but I would imagine a theoretical Bishop trade would also come with a legit backup.

I think the organization would call up Imoo's kid before letting Zatkoff play another game at this point

let's hope this is an argument we can have later this year

Maybe Dean has one more magic bean left and does it in the off-season. Bishop + Gaborik to anyone for a conditional 7th round pick. Condition being Gaborik plays 65 games or scores 20 goals.

I think the plan is to have Bishop skate as a forward and screen the opposing goalie. The Kings are sure to score more goals this way.

No team is going to give up a legit Top six forward without significant return going the other way. The Kings likely don't have assets required to land one.

People need to accept that.

Lombardi basically gave away a super late pick in a weak draft, and a prospect four/five years out(development wise) for a legit Goalie.

Probably best deal that was out there, without giving up the farm.
