Man that would sting. Brown is just about the one and only guy I want to stick arond.
It would take away Kopitar's security blanket though and give him a kick in the ass. This time Kopi you didn't get another coach fired, you got one of your best friends traded.

I modified my post. If you have a look Ryan Callahan must submit a list of 16 teams to which he is willing to be traded. Stralman and Coburn must also submit a list of 16 teams, and McDonagh's list must have 21 teams. Now, it makes no sense for the Kings or Tampa to do a deal for McDonagh, but taking Stralman or Coburn, along with Callahan clears some major cap space out for Tampa Bay.

If there is even a whiff of interest in Brown from Tampa, Blake better be working all the angles to get something done. I can't see another big name on the Kings roster Tampa Bay would be interested in at this time.

Stamkos taking a contract with a cap hit of only $8.5M has given Tampa Bay a lot more flexibility.

Yeah, and Stralman, Coburn, or Callahan would put the Kings on their lists why? They could get flipped by the Kings at the deadline, but none of them have a Cup, and they already have a nice thing going in TB, with no guarantee their next team post-Kings would be as good as the Lightning.

Edit: the one non-Kucherov big contract without a clause(yet) is JT Miller.

Stralman, Coburn, and Callahan have lists which contain half of the teams in the NHL. It's not like they are going to a contender if they get traded, and there are worse places to go than LA for the rest of the season. I don't know why you are so fixated on the NTC for these players. They can't veto a trade to a team on their list.

I know you like throwing cold water on every trade possibility, but none of these guys will be with the Kings or Lightning after this season.

If Kovalchuk goes to Tampa would have to think Callahan comes the other way. I would be ok with this as it is one less year and less money.

Callahan, Cernak + 3rd for kovalchuk.

how about rosen dropping that LA is trying to sign nikolai prokhorkin and there is appetite this time for the player.

The question I think here is it depends on when the no-trade list has to be submitted. I could easily see LA being an ok destination as of this last offseason. Not so much if the player were asked to submit their list now.

Martinez would cost less than Muzzin. Not sure if these two make good trade partners.

Yeah, I took a look at LA's depth chart and you guys seem to be good on RW. Which is what Rust and Sprong are. And I don't think Oleksiak has much value (neither does Sprong). Maatta certainly has value but I think the Pens would be selling low on him at this point. And I think he's a favorite of the Pens management so I think they'll hold on to him for as long as they can.

And it's not like the Pens have enticing prospects.

On this point all of these players must submit lists for half of the teams in the NHL. They likely aren't going to contenders if Tampa trades them. As I said, they could do worse than playing out the rest of the season, and maybe next season in LA with the possibility of getting flipped to a contender by Blake.

I don't know why you dismiss the NTC for those players as easily as you seem to. They may not go to a contender if traded, but they can put 16 of the 17 best teams on their list if they want. Then if TB can't find a trade, they don't go anywhere, and stay with a contender. Maybe they don't want to just play out the rest of the season on a bad team when they're currently getting ready to play for the Cup.

It's not about throwing cold water, it's that GM's are working with real restrictions on what they can do.

There aren't 16 contending teams in the NHL. Hey I dunno, maybe they would all rather be in Carolina or Ottawa than LA. Sixteen teams is half the league, and once the NTC is waived who is to say Blake won't flip the guy to a contending team. Blake is going to have to get creative. It's what he is being paid to do.

I know there has been a lot of discussion about Kovalchuk, but the choice by WD to play Nate Thompson on the PP almost defies description. It is the most baffling thing I have ever seen an NHL coach choose to do when it's by choice, not by necessity. Nate "where offense goes to die" Thompson, who has played 643 career NHL games and has NEVER scored a PP goal in his career, is playing on the Kings 2nd PP unit. I just can't understand the thought process.
