Going to repeat what I posted after the Hagelin trade, " I hope LA deals Hagelin for a pick sooner than later in case of injury"...he is now injured.

It is a risk/reward. If there are deals for UFA's or that make sense for the kings going forward I hope LA does them now

It's tough with the cap. The number of teams which could take on Hagelin's remaining cap hit is somewhat limited. The Kings could retain, but I can't imagine many teams would want to eat up their remaining cap this early without seeing what needs arise with injuries closer to February. Of the teams with ample cap space, most of them either don't need somebody like Hagelin or could very well become sellers at the deadline.

It's a tough gamble, but that's why most teams have to wait to the deadline to unload guys. There'll be more buyers and desperation if teams miss out on primary targets.

fair point on other teams cap room, but I think in Hagelin's case LA should have no issues retaining 50% to get it done

Not really, but ok, I see what your saying, you think he should have kept Kovalchuk with Carter and Toffoli, while not producing AND bleeding goals, allowing him to....play out of it?? Interesting way to hold guys accountable I guess......you realize by the time that Desjardins bumped him, Kovy was going through the motions right?

Thompson lost his guy ONCE lol in the Ottawa game....

THATS JUST WHAT YOU SUGGESTED WAS OKAY FOR KOPITAR, DOUGHTY, ET AL TO DO. Do you have short term memory loss?

Reminds me, your boy nate thompson was minus 5 with zero points for a looooong stretch...but he was rewarded with increased playing time and allowed to play out of it.

Are you seeing a pattern yet?

Again, history shows that they will play out of it, there is no history with kovalchuk of that, he wasnt hustling that's the main difference...and again I'd take a -5 player over 15 games over a -11 player over 5 games any day of the week.

Btw I love how you bring up thompson not scoring like that is his role

Yeah this is going nowhere given you refuse to acknowledge offense at all, but at least you would take Nate Thompson over Drew Doughty.

And that lack of buy in, identity and hunger all come from your Vets. The vets are the ones who are truly killing this team.
Agree 100%. If anyone shouldve seen pine it was Kopi, Tofolli, Carter and Doughty.. but of course those guys have 2 cups so he would never dare. Its easy to punk Kovy - scapegoat the new guy and prob some anti-russian bias there too.

This is one crazy King season...so many things to still play out:

1. Voynov? Re-instated and traded?
2. Quick returns this week and if to form...and Kings are out of the playoffs by deadline - is he traded? (this could only have really been
a possibility, if Campbell got injured as well and Cal Petersen has proven he can take over NOW) If Quick plays well, damn right
GM's will want him...Kings should get a good return. If they have to take a goalie back that has just this yr left, so be it...or retain some; in order
to get a better return for him
3. Gabe Vilardi. Does he succeed in Ontario 3 games and joins Kings? (or sent down to OHL) AND, he may well play with the Kings
and could make impact. I'm just afraid of WD screwing him into 6 mins on line 4.
4. Kovalchuk saga. WHAT happens?
5. Can the Kings actually make the playoffs? They may well start winning more, but with the #31 offense, they won't be able to.
In order to make the playoffs, players like Carter, Toffoli and yes, Kovy (if he gets in top 6 again) need to produce. MUST.
Kings cannot be 31st in scoring and make playoffs.
6. What happens when Campbell is healthy? Quick / Campbell / Petersen. Easy to say "Petersen goes back to Ontario" Maybe and maybe not. ?
7. Will Ladue get a 3rd straight game?? He looked better tonight, so he will probably sit again for a month.
8. Is WD thinking of moving Nate 'Crosby' Thompson to line 1 ?
9. Feb 26th...trade deadline. Who goes?
10. March 15 - Kupari's reg season ends. Already signed by Kings. Does he come over and play the last few weeks with Ontario or the Kings?

Why does Carter get away with having only 1 assist in 8 games or whatever it is?

From the coach? I'm guessing because what other options are there at C?

Until shown otherwise, don't hold your breath. Goalies tend not to get a lot in a trade. Especially the older ones that already have a big contract locked in. I doubt the Kings get much more than the goalie with just this year left. That would be the whole point of trading Quick, clearing that cap space for years to come.

If there's a goalie traded, it's likely to be Campbell. Then hope Petersen signs a relatively cheap deal for the next couple years. Quick's deal goes to 2023. That's a long time. There's no Panthers/Luongo situation out there either, where the player has a previous tie to a team.

Yes, trading Quick is very unlikely and problematic. He would have to come back and play lights out for 4-6 weeks, and a contender would have to need him.

Hmmm, this is interesting. Could Dustin Brown be the missing piece for the Tampa Bay Lightning? I would rather see Carter or Toffoli go, but can't see why Tampa Bay would be interested in either of those two at this time.

The Kings would probably have to take on Ryan Callahan in any deal, but he only has this year and next left on his deal. Callahan has a modified NTC where he has to submit a list of 16 teams he is willing to be traded to, so the Kings could be on his list. I could see Tampa being one of the teams on Brown's list. Brown would be a huge upgrade for them over Callahan.

Question is what else would the Kings be getting back from Tampa? I don't see them sending the Kings Point or Sergachev. They do have some other young players though in Joseph, Cirelli, and Erne. Prying Cal Foote or Volkov away from them would be a major win for the Kings in a deal.

Don't see how they could fit him, re sign Point AND have enough dmen under contract next year unless they move 2-3 of their forwards

They also have a bunch of guys with NTC/NMC's. Who is choosing to leave TB for LA this year? Any of those vets without a Cup?

I modified my post. If you have a look Ryan Callahan must submit a list of 16 teams to which he is willing to be traded. Stralman and Coburn must also submit a list of 16 teams, and McDonagh's list must have 21 teams. Now, it makes no sense for the Kings or Tampa to do a deal for McDonagh, but taking Stralman or Coburn, along with Callahan clears some major cap space out for Tampa Bay.

If there is even a whiff of interest in Brown from Tampa, Blake better be working all the angles to get something done. I can't see another big name on the Kings roster Tampa Bay would be interested in at this time.

Stamkos taking a contract with a cap hit of only $8.5M has given Tampa Bay a lot more flexibility.

I can see them being interested in a Muzzin or Martinez given their term on D, Brown for Callahan plus prospects/picks.....I don't see that happening....Muzzin/Martinez for Callahan and picks/prospects I think is more realistic for both teams....
