He tried to trade Gronk, but he threatened to retire. Edelman's value is much lower outside the Patriot's system, and he makes basically peanuts (less than their kicker). Brady has been the only real untouchable because the owner would never let it happen. There was talk Belichick wanted to move on from Brady and go with Garoppolo but the owner shut that down and forced the Garoppolo trade

Possibly, I'm just sick of the, we should have traded players at their highest value diatribe, like it's always done that way...it's not. Not in pro sports, its ludicrous to think that anyone should have been traded in the 2014 off-season, even the 2015 off-season, it's LESS ludicrous for the 2016 and 2017 offseason, absolutely, but to hear this I saw it coming as early as 2014 that we were going to suck in 2018 and not win a playoff game diatribe, cmon, that's just too much, that's ignoring the history of the sport, of sports themselves, that show you that star players DO NOT GET TRADED....just because. There is ALWAYS an issue that makes them traded.

Enough is enough of that, and people need to get their head out of the video game fan boy stage, and just accept it. Pro Sports is based on winning, and winning alone, and they will not trade a piece at the highest value for lottery tickets...

Muzzin has been one of our best players this year and is well regarded around the league.

He should be traded.

I can agree with this, this opens up a spot for Brickley for the rest of the year, and allows LA to get a good idea if they want him back or not, as he is a RFA.

Trade him for a 1st and cap dump with less term, should be fine.

Could have been any time between June 2014 and June 2017. Carter had a huge 2017 and it should have been apparent by then the team was never going to contend again until he was past his prime.

It's not going to be a Belichik situation though. A) He has maybe the greatest QB of all time. B) QB's today have more impact on a team than anyone south of elite NBA players.

Summer of 2014, Lombardi is trying to defend the Cup, he's not trading Carter. All through 14-15, not trading Carter. Once they lost that Edmonton game, the magic was gone, but Lombardi doubled down, and wasn't going to trade Carter. 15-16, they had their best regular season under Lombardi, had the division until they once again choked in a big post-2014 game. 16-17, all sorts of issues come up, but if you have Quick, you can convince yourself you can be a playoff team.

Now that's where the real divide is. Is it good enough just to make the playoffs? If yes, you keep Carter after 16-17, if not, you trade him. What would make the debate easier is knowing what they could've gotten for Carter at the time. Is it close to what the Flyers got for him? Is it closer to what the Jackets got for him? Is it better than what the Jackets got, but not quite what the Flyers got? Another unknown is what do they do last year had he not gotten a freak injury? How does he look this year without that injury? Is the injury even part of the equation anymore, or is that just a convenient excuse? Maybe age did catch up, and maybe he would look and play this way even if he had been completely healthy last year.

It's the rare GM that trades guys when they should. Usually, it's forced upon them, one way or another. The tough part in trading Carter, even in 2017, was that they already invested so much into this core. You don't want to throw good money after bad, and you need to know when to cut your losses, etc, however, even in June 2017, Carter was a 30+ year old player with multiple years left on his contract. How many 30+ year old players with multiple years left on their contract have been traded since June 2017? Gaborik and Phaneuf were traded. For each other. Everyone has the same concerns of age and cap space.

This is what some people need to understand about the Carter situation. You might find several teams willing to take on a productive 25-29 year-old player with three years on his contract. But the universe of teams willing to take on an unproductive 34 year-old with 3 years left on his contract has to be exceedingly small. And the return they are willing to pay is NOT going to be what some fans hope for. Yes, Blake might find a buyer for a 1st but I really doubt it. Carter would actually be much more valuable if he was a UFA. Unless Carter's numbers improve substantially heading into TDL, I would expect the return to be along the lines of a mid-level prospect and a 2nd. Whether Blake is willing to take that type of return we'll find out soon enough. If anything, I see Craig Conroy similarities written all over this (when the Kings traded him to Calgary).

Even without Kopitar playing--Carter put up seasons of 62 62 66 in a row and even with a career threatening injury scored at a 40 goal, 67 point pace at the end of last year. Right now, with everyone else sucking as well, he's sucking--but in the same spot as usual in Kings' scoring rankings and shooting half of his career shooting percentage. While I think it's fair to be skeptical of his injury and recovery, calling him unproductive is as trash as pretending everyone on this roster suddenly has zero value.

Carter is absolutely part of the problem right now but I have no doubts about him bouncing back elsewhere and/or getting back to a more-respectable level of production when the team recovers and he recovers more. The guy has legendary fitness and was fine in his 30s.

And even at worst, he's a complementary top-six winger--none of those guys are getting paid as little in salary and cap as Carter are. 3 million next year, 2 million each year after that, 5.2 cap. Imagine even more so if LA retains (unlikely).

Guaran-f***ing-tee you Carter brings back a first and a great prospect or something equivalent. Be happy to gentleman's bet on it, beer or coffee.

well, my first guess is that he is still a King after TDL so that would have to be the bet. Obviously, the return goes up if LA retains but I still think he stays. A gentleman's bet is fine since I have no desire to ever go to LA county again in my life (worked there for 25 years and that was enough...I'll stay in my little cocoon in south OC!!).

I'm in the IE haha, not sure that's much better.

But oh, if we're talking about IF Blake will trade him, then I rescind, because I don't think Blake has the cajones for that.

Should Blake also ask himself how to get the greatest player in the history of the game on his team for the next 20 years? Or maybe just a DeLorean so he can go back and get Gretzky.
If we are going for the greatest go back and get Bobby Orr.

Muzzin isn't making up for Martinez's mistakes, hes making them himself. He constantly loses his man and is out of position, then he has to take a dumb penalty to get out of it. Martinez looks better when hes not with Muzzin. I wonder why we've never tried Martinez/Doughty pairing.

Always turning on this team? Ha Ha no I didnt. Have I mentioned those who are fairweathered?Yes and it was indeed true.Have many of us since 2015 said this team wasnt a contender and got attacked by those now realizing this truth?Yes.Nothing I've said is personal nor is it a lie.Drinks some egg nog and be merry my friend.
