Thinking the game "Fast" has been a staple of every single hockey system since the game was invented.
It's getting the correct players all on the same page, and same team, to do so consistently.

You would think so, right? But no...not like the way they are preaching it these days...

even the 2014 Kings were pretty 'slow' but you wouldn't know it the way the puck got wheeled around. And if they did turn it over they promptly murdered someone nullifying speed.

I think Scherbak is a project especially with his injuries but he has undeniable talent. And similar to Zykov, we're in a no-risk situation with him.

I think it was Rosen that mentioned that one reason the pass on Zykov was he had a contract next year...Scherbak doens't. Less risk. I know they have like 5 open contracts, right?
But maybe they have a free agent or 2 in sites...that's possibly why they traded Falkovsky for Jenys - Falkovsky had 1 more yr on contract and Jenys expires this year.
Maybe the Kings are targeting enough and draftees to take all the contracts.

Management still hasn’t waived the white flag, so they’re not going to take away ice time from someone on the roster for a waiver wire pick. Trades are our only hope for the future, as December is a busy month with 13 games.

7 out of 13 are at home. 8 of the 13 are against teams in a playoff spot today, but there are games against Pittsburgh and San Jose, which are pretty much losses.

So even if they go .500, they don’t make up ground in the west.

They start a 4 games in 7 days home stand tomorrow, against CAR, PHX, NJD, and VGK.

They should go at least 2-2 if they are improving game by game, as Jim Fox said. Or they go 0-4 and management waives the white flag.

Half this team has been visited by this guy.

As I understand it, a waiver wire pickup has to play 10 games and / or stay on the parent roster 30 days. So, if that happens and they want to
send him to Ontario, I surmise he must pass through waivers again?

Fox is smoking crack if he sees improvement.

This is a garbage team, they should not be keeping roster spots reserved for guys who won't be around when the dust clears in a few years.

I think you will agree this "speed game" stuff is overrated. The puck moves faster than any player can skate. A good system where supporting the puck is emphasized is still the best in my opinion. Players have to work hard to execute that type of system.

I agree. You can play fast if you connect your passes, when you don't [ like in the Kings case ] you look really slow. The fastest team get the puck into the zone in 3 passes or less. We take 5.

I want a takeback on the Gaborik for Phaneuf / Thompson deal. What's even more horrifying, Thompson's contract ended and he was re-signed.

I don’t think that’s correct. Pretty sure we picked that contract up. Wish it had been expiring, he’s overseas if that’s the case (Like all our other worthless 4th liners). Lucky for him he gets another year of the NHL life making 1.6m. DL got a sucker to give us a pick for King but he had also played really well in 2 SC runs. Doubt that Blake finds anyone dumb enough to give us a 6th for Thompson.

Searched it. You are correct. This link has the status. It has a BUTTON "BUYOUT THIS CONTRACT" and I clicked, it, hoping to activate the buyout to League Offices...but I don't
think it worked. I was excited and hopeful though. I tried. It just gave the breakdown of the buyout.

I’d love to see a trade like Quick and Forbort for Andrew MacDonald and Travis Konecny.

MacDonald’s a UFA in 2 years and Konecny scored 24 goals last year and is a 21 year old rfa at the end of the season.

I like how you snuck Forbort in there. Blake isn't getting a 21 year old forward who has already scored 24 goals in the NHL for Quick.

Many on here want to rebuild but you need to come to terms that it is not going to happen! Period!
They won’t trade Kopitar, Doughty or Quick... be it management opinion, fear of fans reaction and of course it’s a business...
With that said, you can have a quick rebuild if you move your assets now.. teams will try to low ball us but they know the value of guys like Toffoli, Carter, Martinez, Muzzin, Lewis, Haglin and Brown...
Toffoli, Muzzin and Carter - 1st, A prospect
Martinez - 1st, B prospect
Brown - 1st and lesser salary swap
Haglin and Lewis - 3rd rounders would do

How is everyone worth a 1st?

And even back in 2014, when they couldn't make passes, they looked like a bad, slow team. Now that guys like Muzzin can't hold up players as they enter the zone after they dump the puck in(and Muzzin did that a lot when the Kings were good), it's more difficult to stop the negative results from turnovers.

The true horror would be if the Kings resigned Thompson this summer.

They won't.

Carter turns 34 on January 1. And he's been terrible the last 12 games. 13 pts and -12. Abysmal and he's not making an impact in any way.
On pace for 36 points. I would be surprised if he would get a 2nd round pick. Possibly.

Muzzin turns 30 in February. He is still playing pretty well, but his offensive numbers are bad. 1 goal and 4 assists and now past 1/4 season mark.
with his 4 mil cap hit and 1 more year left, he may be worth a lower #1 pick.

Toffoli is fast eroding into a below average top 6er....terrible numbers. On pace for 36 points this year. 26 yrs old and 4.6 cap hit with 1 yr left.
Would be lucky to get a 2nd rd pick. No way a #1.

Everyone see what happens when you trade a player a year too late, or in Carter's case two years too late. Carter was going to age like a fine wine, right? For every player like a Mats Sundin there are probably 20 legit NHL players who had very good careers who age like a bottle of milk left out on the counter for a week.

Toffoli should bring a low first rounder back. Muzzin, Martinez and Carter should move for 2nd round picks. Forbort and Lewis should be worth 3rd rounders.

You could go into the draft with $21m in cap space cleared and 9 picks in the first 3 rounds.
