Hopefully this is the correct thread? Wild fan here hoping to ask a couple of questions?
1. Is Carter available?
2. What would you want from Minnesota to make it happen?
Thanks

Leafs aren't in trouble at all, they are just a 1 yr UFA Marleau dump away from locking everybody nicely

Marleau is an easy trade to make to a team that wants to reach the cap, slip the team a 2nd rd pick IF anything (although i find he does have value and wouldn't be that difficult to move)

I think you are severely underestimating how much Marner and Matthews will cost.
The benchmark for Matthews will be 11, but he will be pushing for more and Marner has 36 points in 22 games to start this season, he will have Draisaitl as a benchmark. At minimum you are looking at 20 million for them, with another 21 million tied up in Tavares, Rielly, and Zaistev.
Kadri and Andersen represent another 10 million, along with Hyman and Brown taking up about 5 million, so even if you dump Marleau you will only have ~24 million to fill in 14 roster spots with 4-5 of those being defensemen.
That also is not accounting for Nylander/Kapanen/Sparks getting a raise and the fact that Marleau has a NMC, so dumping him is not as easy as giving a team a 2nd rounder to reach the cap. Why would he waive his NMC to go to a tanking team?

I don't know how you can say it will be easy for them to fit this team together, the signing of Marleau signaled that this team is built to win now and will have to be torn apart in short order.

Don't really know the Minnesota prospects that well, but maybe Luke Kunin would be a good start.

Marleau is a 35+ contract AND a full NMC. That's a problem because yes they only have to deal with it for an additional year BUT it's the year after all their big contracts tick.

I agree with this. A few years ago someone like Greenway would have been what LA would covet, but now I think Kunin would be the target. I'm sure the Wild want to keep their first, but probably either Kunin + 3rd/4th or a 1st + 3/4th.

Edmonton loses that trade bigly.

They mentioned this morning on TSN that the cap hit this year for Nylander would be 9 million if he signs 6ish-7 so that eliminates a lot of teams including LA who had minimal cap space.

I think if he signs before tomorrow's deadline, he plays this year out as a Leaf and is then dealt in the offseason.

I was just looking at cap friendly, and it looks very bleak for the foreseeable future. I knew the Kings were in trouble with the salary cap, but I didn't realize they had so many players with NMC's. I knew Kopi, Brown, and Doughty all had NMC's, but I didn't realize that Kovulchuck, Thompson, and Phaneuf had them as well.

Kopi, Brown, and Quicks contracts still have way too long left on them. And Phanuef still has 2 more years after this season. I can't imagine Brown or Kopi waiving their NMC to go to any team that can afford them (only ones that could afford them aren't really contenders).

This team is in salary cap H-E-Double hockey sticks, and it doesn't look like it will get better anytime soon.

Also: when the heck did hagelin go on LITR? He cant get us any draft picks like that!

Even if the Blues lose tonight in regulation, and the Kings somehow win tomorrow, they'll still be 31st in points% when Monday starts. So rest easy for another day everyone. Don't worry if they manage to scrounge up an effort in the first game back home after a road trip. However, if they get outshot 65-2, don't worry about that either.

It’s disgusting to look at la’s cap friendly page. Fixing that requires blowing up the team.

The Pearson trade was the start. I think Quick is next.

Philly just fired their GM, grumpy Ron Hextall, for three reasons.

They’re in last place, their pk sucks and their goal tending sucks.

Paul Holmgren is in charge and he put that team in cap hell before Hextall took over.

I’d love to see a trade like Quick and Forbort for Andrew MacDonald and Travis Konecny.

MacDonald’s a UFA in 2 years and Konecny scored 24 goals last year and is a 21 year old rfa at the end of the season.

1. Carter is available.
2. It would take accepting him and his full contract. For taking Carter and his contract, you also get a 2019 4th round pick.
3. Have your GM call Blake and accept this offer.

Yes, agreed 100%.
The Kings were going to select Konecny...with the pick they dealt for Sekera...and the pick they sent to Boston, Kings were selecting Kyle Connor.
Without those 2 horrible trades...the Kings would be one of the best teams in the Western Conf right now. And Jones would have got a
decent return and Colin Miller may be on the team as well.

I think Quick is next to go. Should be, if there are good offers.

Have any link, proof of that, or is that just wishful thinking? They could have easily selected Senshyn instead of Connor and you realize that Connor and Konecky were in the same draft, so it's impossible that they could have traded one pick that would have netted them both.

Royal Lineage: Kyle Connor? - LA Kings Insider

someone also sent me a pm the Kings were likely to select Connor....and why did Rosen do a specific article on Connor? He could have done an article about 3 or 4 the Kings
may be looking at.

What obviously happened - Connor was going to Michigan - Red Berenson's program and DL was probably not on board with that and more hellbent on immediate return on the 13th overall and wanted a LW for Kopi...ideally one capable and played the Kings heavy style...and Dean overpaid for that.

Flyers don't need Quick, he won't solve their problem, which is a bad coach with a ineffective and Inefficient system, or lack thereof. That has led to just about everybody on the entire team to lose focus in their own end, and the poor decisions, turnovers, etc, are the largest reason the goalie fails. the debacle against the Leafs last week: Down 4-0 and Stolarz takes over. You think they would have played harder in front of him, no, they gave up 20 shots on goal in the 2nd period. The fell apart earlier this week against the Sens in the 3rd. Just typical of them, losing focus, bad decision, turnovers. Quick won't make them a playoff team or contender. They'll lose 3-2 instead of 6-5. THe new coach will help, whenever that happens. I get not firing Haks and getting an interim coach for a few weeks. But the new GM should take care of that. Then make the right trades. If that involves a place holder goalie for 2 yrs until Carter Hart is ready, fine. But that won't be Quick. If the Kings were smart, they'd trade him to a team in a better position for a deep playoff run.

Hextall was fired for several reasons, the largest of which is his dictator like attitude. His was the only opinion, period. He was not willing to listen to differing points of view from ownership regarding the team, player possibilities and other Flyer related issues. You cannot be that inflexible and arrogant. Trades were missed, FA's won't come here (players talk, they know the score) Props to him for fixing the farm system, but now it's overloaded and he won't part with any of the prospects to make a trade, that would help. Bozak would have been a nice 3C , PK'er, Dougie Hamilton would have been a good fit for Haag, Ghost and Provy, but Hexy wouldn't budge. Giroux, Simmonds and Voracek need to be traded, they are 6 yrs into a 'lack of leadership' zone, no impact shifts the few times they do appear on the ice post season. As long as they remain, the Flyers will fail.
Hexy went too far in the other direction from Homer and his iron will caused cracks in the organization.

Homer is only in charge for a week or so until the new GM arrives (hoping it's Hunter or Zito).

Konecny is not being traded, move on.

Many on here want to rebuild but you need to come to terms that it is not going to happen! Period!
They won’t trade Kopitar, Doughty or Quick... be it management opinion, fear of fans reaction and of course it’s a business...
With that said, you can have a quick rebuild if you move your assets now.. teams will try to low ball us but they know the value of guys like Toffoli, Carter, Martinez, Muzzin, Lewis, Haglin and Brown...
Toffoli, Muzzin and Carter - 1st, A prospect
Martinez - 1st, B prospect
Brown - 1st and lesser salary swap
Haglin and Lewis - 3rd rounders would do

Brown has a limited NTC. He must accept a trade to any of the 8 teams on his list.

The Kopitar contract is a flipp'in disaster.

Really hoping we can pick up Scherbak
The Mayor John Hoven‏ @mayorNHL 2h2 hours ago

Kings likely to have interest in Scherbak; 3 key reasons - If memory serves correctly, LA was interested in him at 2014 Draft (selected 3 spots before Kempe) - MTL not known for doing a great job with development, and the player projects as top 6 - No contract beyond this year

please claim Scherbak!!! (LET HIM PLAY, WD) Hope Scherbak wasn't on a Russian Natl Team that beat Willie tho. You gotta love him jumping into the glass of all the Leaf fans...awesome.
