I don't care about what would have been even better. By 2017 the writing was on the wall. Again, I am not looking for maximum return. I was hoping for Kings management to recognize that the run was over and start gathering assets in support of building around Doughty.

Had they done the right thing by the time Kopitar was up, Doughty isn't here, and they could've started a real rebuild. But, they signed all his friends to Cup contracts, he himself got one, and they kept wanting to put up the front of competitiveness. Again, I have always agreed with you on the process. I just have no illusions that a team will willingly tear things down by choice. That rarely happens. Real talent is also too rare, and if players want to leave, then things will fundamentally change. If those name guys want to stick around though, teams will pay them, because yes, they want to sell tickets all the time. That's something that isn't rare in pro sports.

You post this junk all the time. The Kings were still a good team in 2014, and it was not a miracle. That team didn't have the same level of talent as San Jose or Chicago, but they had all the guts and guile necessary. In many ways 2014 was even more satisfying than 2012.

Agreed 100%. Still a miracle for that many things to go right for one team in one playoff tournament though. Then Lombardi went crazier than his pre-Cup years with the risks.

Expecting a 1st for Carter, Muzzin and Toffoli are a minimum. Don’t be fooled by people who comment and say at best we get a 2nd, those guys aren’t a salary dump! Look at PO bound teams and tell me they wouldn’t give up a 1st for any of those 3. Some here would have you believe that those guys are finished based on the crappy year this horrible team is having but that’s not the case. Are we getting a Hanzal type return? Nope, but we can easily get a 1st from a TML, Avs, Buf, MTL and a few more. The cap hit on each is bargain level and the term isn’t really an issue for some of the above. You could move Muzzin+Haglin to the Avs and get a 1st + or Martinez+Lewis to TML or what ever package you can dream of, so it’s possible. The issue is the FO thinking we could land a guy like Nylander or other top young players. We need to clear cap, get assets and move forward with our immovable players

Again, it's all possible. I'm just not expecting anything when I'm not the GM, and have no idea what the particulars are when it comes to offers. I'll lean to the conservative side there. They can get something in trades, but they will get what they get. Over the summer, what's the response to a Pearson for Hagelin trade proposal straight up? Probably that it wouldn't happen, but then it did. With trades being some sort of mix between the past, present, and future, who knows what will happen.

If you don't think that some of these Kings players would return a 1st, you must have missed last year.

Carter is better than Rick Nash, who returned a 1st, 7th, Spooner, Beleskey, and Lindgren. Yes, Nash's contract was more favorable but still that's a lot.

Jake Muzzin is better (and isn't that old) than Ryan Hartman, who returned a 1st +.

Tyler Toffoli is the equivalent of Stastny at this point of his career, and he returned a 1st, a 4th, and a player. He's also better than Tomas Tatar, who garnered a 1st, 2nd, and a 3rd...

If they really wanted to, this team could load up on 1st rounders. The only one that could get a high first would be Toffoli.

No, Tim Duncan was pretty consistent up until he hit 33 years of age, then he had a steady decline in production. Kopitar has been wildly inconsistent from season to season for the past several years, and before reaching 30 years of age.

No. More so he would be the Dirk Nowitzki of the NHL.

I like Nowitzski too. I was thinking more in terms of stylistically, "the big fundamental," etc. Kopitar's game is 'boring,' even at its best. His highlight reel is sweet from a sheer power perspective but rarely does he actually 'wow' anyone, yet how effective has he been his whole career all over the ice?

Exactly my thought. And lots of these guys had similar situations with a crap team depressing their 'real' values. There's opportunity cost in another contender getting your guy before you too, as well. If you don't think there'd be a bidding war for Muzzin at the trade deadline where he'd likely be far and away the best d-man available...

I know a lot of this value smashing has to do with people being angry at the current state of the team so I get it, but reality is lesser players have returned more. I do think Carter in particular is a trickier situation because of his term, though.

Its been 6 years and they're still not over it. A player who just signed a massive contract, gets immediately traded to a place where no one wants to go on top of it being a ****ty team didn't want to be there. I never saw him play in Columbus, but my god its been 6 years

You shouldn’t let it surprise you. I’m certain you can still find Hurricanes fans pissed at Jack Johnson for not leaving UofM mid season. Fans are morons.

Still trying to figure out what makes sense between TBL and Kings. LIke I said on the trade forum, I've stared agonizingly at roster and assets for hours and I just don't get it.

I can't either, particularly with the limited salary space both teams have. Perhaps TB has something lined up with another team contingent on whether they can flip player(s), that's really the only thing I can think of.

TBL scouts and at least one of the games their Ast GM was there, but they have attended BOTH King and Reign games.

Haha, I have as well...maybe just under 1 hour though. It must be some kind of multi player deal. TB is down Stralman and even McDonagh had some injury the other day. ..not sure if he will miss any games. Looking for info and cannot find anything...so maybe they want Martiniez or Muzzin and salary must come back - but a player of less value possibly - and other pieces even the
trade out...I cannot imagine anyone other than Clague or Brickley worth much in Ontario, at the moment...outside chance MacDermid. All the better Reign players - Wagner, Luff, Amadio
are already with the Kings. But TB has had scouts and their Ast GM at both the Reign and King games. And last TB game, 2 LA scouts were there.

I think Blake wants to make a move, as the Nylander saga ended and may not have been close to getting him, but were apparently in the running and did not want to
part with Clague. Who knows who else was involved. So I think since that has passed, maybe a deal will happen...and now Scherbak may not even be fit to play,
due to the lower body injury and King doctors will check him out. It's also not out of the realm Vilardi now joins the Kings, but more likeLy they apply to have 2 more conditoining games in the AHL...then
possibly go to Team Canada camp for WJC.
