I mean, I think we're all on roughly the same page, and maybe it's just semantics. No, that's certainly "not enough," but I also have a hard time qualifying it as "unacceptable" given the drafting team in those years was working with low or no picks. Between 2010 and 2016, we had exactly 3 first round picks at 15, 29, and 30, and each guy is a contributing player in Forbort, Pearson, Kempe.

-4 of the 5 2010 picks are NHLers--Forbort, Toffoli, Weal, Gravel in the 1,2,3,5 rounds. Only one to not cut it is Kitsyn in the 6th.

-2011 was mostly trash unfortunately, not gonna defend that one.

-2012 We only had Pearson, because we had no 2nd or 3rd--and still got NHLers in Colin Miller (5th) and Paul Ladue (7th). We turned another 7th round pick into our current goalie. And the enigma Porkins from the 4th.

-2013 we had no first, but landed a current NHLer in Zykov in 2. No 3rd rounder either. Fasching (4th) became McNabb. Bartosak (5th) became an *******. Brodzinski (5th) is sorta TBD but that's a good pick. Kubalik was the 7th and I don't care much for him but there are some here that will fight you to the death over his potential.

-2014 we nailed Kempe. I didn't like McKeown but others do. Jury is out on Lintuniemi (2nd) but clock is ticking. Amadio in the 3rd is starting to pay off. The rest...meh.

-2015 again we had no first. We had Cernak (2nd). Dergachyov in the 3rd I really really liked but Russia is causing issues there. And of course Wagner in the 4th is a good pick.

-2016 we only had 4 picks and no first. Clague I'm not as high on as others but that's a good 2nd round pick. No 3rd, and Moverare in the 4th (jury out). Eyssimont is a good 5th. Forget where Jacob Friend is now (7th).

-Then of course you have 2017--jury is still out but Vilardi, JAD, Villalta, Anderson, Phillips, Hults, Rymsha all looking pretty good.

So again, to me, it's less a 'bad drafting' problem to indict scouting and development and more a problem of no high picks with which to take true impact players. Again, could do better? Sure. "Unacceptable?" I have a hard time signing off on that given it looks like the last two drafts are nails and are widely getting applause. I know Ziggy's big concern is we aren't landing "impact" players--which is vague enough to have plausible deniability I suppose--but there aren't a lot of home runs to hit from pick 90 on...and that's a LOT of NHLers considering those middling picks.

I understand and maybe I haven't communicated my thoughts well enough. I wasn't trying to say the drafting and development is bad, but I do think the lack of depth and young talented players able to come in and be part of the lineup is symptomatic that something is not right.

I honestly feel the development needs more help than the drafting. Landing Iafallo in college and him being able to compete in the NHL right away suggests things are still good with drafting. I just categorize the developmental process as "not good enough".

I DO feel the Kings need to work on some of their scouting/drafting resources. The way the Kings strike out on Russian prospects is alarming. I haven't done the research, but I'm of the opinion that the Kings could not have a worse run with drafting Russian prospects and knowing whether or not they'll actually come to North America someday. They also have only drafted one player out of the Q. Kitsyn was the last player drafted out of Russia to actually come to North America, and he was drafted in 2010. Zykov was already playing in the Q (and he was the last player the Kings drafted from the Q, which was 5 years ago). The Russian they drafted who actually played on the Kings was Loktionov in the 5th round of 2008.

But there's a lack of quality players being generated in the Kings system, which is part of the reason the roster is so stale: there hasn't been anyone good enough to force players out, which has led to a rather stagnant roster. Ideally, if a couple NHLers can be developed, then veterans can be traded to acquire more picks/upgrade in positions to keep the team afloat. Similar to Voynov making Jack Johnson expendable. They haven't had that sort of luxury in years, which is why I feel the development, more so than the drafting, needs to be brought into question.

Now imagine what’s going to happen to Vilardi when he takes physical contact. He might explode on contact.

Lmao I’m officially over being excited for Vilardi. He’s definitely a bust and won’t play more than 100 games in his career . Unfortunately that is going to set us back even more

The miracle 2014 run ended on Friday the 13th.

Yes it did. I remember it well. I was sitting next to a boy around five years old in the end where the Kings shot three times in that game. Before the 2nd OT I told him we were lucky because every goal in the game was going to be scored right in front of us.

I miss this style of hockey that the Kings used to play.

Check out the highlights. Aggressive fore checking, passes connecting, and not giving up on plays. That was a fun game and a fun Kings team to watch.

Wasnt that the game Malkin speared, Simmonds, I think it was, in the final minute of play?

The most amazing thing about that highlight is this quote from the announcer: "The Kings score first for the 14th time in 16 games."

Last year the Kings gave up the first goal 60% of the time. This year they're giving up the first goal 75% of the time.
