I don't know how I feel about this. Happy that Adams is looking for help? Disappointed that they're not bringing in a fresh voice?

Here's who it's going to be:

What's weird is how he hasn't been fired yet...guy has contributed nothing substantial but survives every purge, like a friggin cockroach.

Can’t fire the puppet master of the whole operation.

I laugh when fans have talked about the “owners” and “general managers” the team‘s had over the years, like they had any decision-making power. They might be the faces but it’s Devine who is - and always has been - the brains behind every decision.

I don’t necessarily read it as they’re not bringing in a fresh voice. I read it as Adams wants someone he knows and is comfortable with.

That could be any number of people outside the organization, or maybe from harborcenter.

My first thought was Michael Peca. He’s been the GM of the junior Sabres for quite a while now. Pretty sure he and Kevyn Adams worked closely together with the jr. Sabres.

My guess is he will add some ex-players to his front office staff. But I do hope he adds someone with some experience.

What about someone like Doug Weight?

He was on the 05-06 Carolina championship with Adams.

He was assistant GM of the Islanders, and also a coach there.

There needs to be some new blood brought into this organization.

Weight was awful in his stint as a head coach / manager.

I always find in funny when people just negate the previous regime when a new coach has success.

The Islanders are one of the better home grown teams. With the the amount of years it takes hockey players to make an impact, you don't think Weight has been an asset to the Islanders success now? I think that is really short-sighted.

When a team in one season makes a polar opposite shift from an 80 point team that's one of the worst teams in the league by defensive metrics to a the best defensive system in the league leading them to 100 point season and then conference finals, while also losing one of the better centers in the league, I'd say dismissing the previous coaching regime as being bad is pretty well warranted.

The recent Islanders team is a case study in the value of coaching.

Even if the Islanders weren't as good as they are now

So bring him in as an offence/PP coach?

Maybe? Why though? The only thing Weight has got going for him is name value as a player.

His only track record as a coach and assistant manager is not good. I'd prefer Adams brings in someone with experience and success at some professional levels but I'd almost take lack of a track record over someone that only has a track record of failure.

The Isles were a high flying offensive team. Weight was an offence only player. The Sabres were terrible at offence and PP. Bring someone in where that was their bread and butter

Those responsibilities would be given to an assistant coach. I also feel the special teams needs to be revamped but Ralph unfortunately decided to make no changes to his staff.

Since the poster brought him up in the Kevyn Adams thread I believe the intention was to discuss Weight as an assistant general manager but I'm not sure either :dunno:

The topic on hand was about Assistant GM, and that is where I think Weight would be good for this organization.

You are so caught up on ice accomplishments for some reason, when I am talking about him in the front office. Clearly the players he had a hand in bringing in, were successful.

Which ones did he have a hand in bringing in? Any sources on this?

Not defending Weight in any way and don't know or care how he did as a coach. Are we not talking about Assistant GM? This is the Kevyn Adams - GM thread and the current dialog is related to a tweet upthread that states that Adams appears to be looking for someone to assist him in the GM role. To be honest, I don't know anything of Weight as a potential GM candidate, but it would be nice to limit the discussion to that - as I think that was the intent of the post that started this portion of the discussion.
